Weekly Walk and Talk | 05.20.2022

weeklong walking with a friend

Welcome to our weekly “walk and talk,” where we bring our weekly walks to you. Our walks are a time to catch up on family life, share online shopping hits and misses, exchange recipes, discuss our newest Netflix binge — all the stuff that friends share with each other. And now we’re sharing with you!

Don’t miss a single link! Click here for previous editions of our “Walk and Talk.”

What We’re Watching

CHRISTA : Shining Vale (STARZ) is giving me some serious American Horror Story vibes (but it’s much tamer!) – I kinda wish they would’ve made it a little bit scarier! It’s a fun show to watch, with some dark humor, a very dysfunctional family and enough suspense to keep you coming back, but it’s not overly scary at all. There’s only one season (right now) making it a great binge (but happy to report it was renewed for season two)! And it’s good to see Courtney Cox back with another great performance!

MEGAN : Where are my true crime junkies? Check out Under the Banner of Heaven (Hulu), starring Andrew Garfield. My husband read the book years ago and raved about it and now I’m down the rabbit hole of this series. SO GOOD!

Random Stuff We Like

MEGAN : Life has been pretty random over here lately. A few of my current favs:

What Megan’s Cooking

Mrs. Bishop's Salad Dressing

www.StyleAmongFriends.com

Vinaigrette Salad Dressing
Prep Time 5 minutes
Course Salad

Equipment

  • 1 mason jar with a lid

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 3 tbsp vinegar balsamic, champagne, red wine... any!
  • 1 tbsp mustard I use dijon
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 tspn salt
  • 1/4 tspn pepper

Instructions

  • Put all the ingredients into a mason jar and secure the lid.
  • Shake the jar until all ingredients are emulsified, enjoy the free arm workout!

Notes

This recipe is from my friend Edie and my picky eater approves!  It's the only way he will eat salad.  Edie's pro tip:  Always use less dressing than you think, toss the salad with the dressing to coat all the lettuce.   A little goes a long way!

Friends Share the Good Stuff

Have something you love or can’t live without? Did you find a great deal? Well, do tell! Share with us and we’ll pass it along…because friends share the good stuff!

CHRISTA : Thanks to my friend Terry for recommending OOFOS when I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. As we head into summer, these OOlala sandals have been a life saver for me since I’m not wearing my sneakers as much. They are comfortable, just the right amount of support, and look good, too! They’re perfect to slip on after a long walk. Podiatrist created and recommended – give them a try!

MEGAN : Thanks to our friend Dannielle for sharing her patio refresh with us – and the cute lemon pillows and wreath from our summer checklist post. Way to go, Dannielle!!! The pops of yellow are perfect with the blues you already had! (And can you share the link for the bunny in the planter? So cute!)

On Megan’s Book Shelf

MEGAN : Now’s about the time of year that I start fantasizing about reading by the pool. Here’s what’s on my book shelf for summer:

Save vs. Splurge

CHRISTA : Tell me you’re over 50 without telling me you’re over 50…slippers with arch support! I purchased the Birdies “The Robin” slippers (reg. $98; currently on final sale for $65; some colors are limited sizes) in December fully intending to write a whole blog post about how great they are. And, then Amazon somehow knew and I found these slippers (only $26.69). Let’s just say, the Amazon find does not disappoint! They are very soft and feel really good on my feet, plus they have some added arch support. I’m wearing the Amazon slippers daily! Amazon, you win (again)!

3 Under $30

CHRISTA : Sharing three jewelry finds under $30…they’re actually under $20, so even better! First up, this bracelet stack in a summery pop of orange – it’s only $12.99 and it looks great! Next, this initial necklace set – this is a great everyday go to necklace ($14.99). And finally, I love this little on-the-go jewelry holder. Hook it to your purse or tote, it’s perfect for the beach/pool when you forget to take off your jewelry. My first thought for it was to use it at the nail salon to stash my ring during my manicure ($15.95). All three of these items would make great gifts!

AND, HERE’S WHERE WE WALKED

A peek along our walk…it’s time to stick with the shady paths and start walking earlier – it’s warming up out there! How do you change up your walking or workout routine when the weather gets warmer?

Did you see our Guy’s Guide to Father’s Day Gifts? Our newest gift guide is on the blog. We had special guest bloggers (our hubbies, Drew and Ian) share what they think dads will like this Father’s Day. Check it out!

We have another #OOTD – this time it’s denim shorts. You may not be a fan of wearing shorts, but check it out anyway, because everything we shared to go with the shorts will also work with your favorite denim, chinos or summer skirt.

Coming next week…Megan is sharing some outfit inspiration and we’ll have a review of our favorite haircare products. Subscribe to our blog (scroll down) to receive our updates right in your inbox, so you don’t miss anything!

    Hello!

I agree with Christa : I love my Oofos flip flops …I just wouldn’t get white again. Luckily, you can run these in the washing machine!

I also concur with Megan: as I have thick, frizzy hair (especially in the humid summer of DC), the Color Wow works and tames the frizz!

Thanks for the tips ladies 🙂
