Welcome to Walk & Talk, a weekly hangout for women over 50 who love good finds and great outfits. It’s all about easy looks, favorite things, and the kind of recommendations you’d text to a friend.
CHRISTA : One of the sweetest parts of summer is when grown children find their way back home, even if it’s just for a long weekend. The fridge fills up a little faster, the laundry pile mysteriously grows, and somehow the house feels fuller in all the best ways. Savor these visits, knowing that time together becomes even more precious as everyone builds lives of their own. Have a wonderful summer making new memories together!
MEGAN : Big news over here, meet Ladybird aka Birdie. She’s an 8 week old Golden Retriever and we are in love. Something about a puppy in the house that sparks joy and chaos! You can’t help but smile seeing Birdie explore the world around her. Watching my adult sons play with her is giving me a glimpse of them as boys again. Five stars all around.
What We’re Watching
MEGAN : Season two of Four Seasons is out on Netflix. The original Four Seasons (written and starred in by Alan Alda) came out in the 80s and I must say Tina Fey has done a great job staying true to the original. Eight 30 minute episodes follows three couples through the four seasons of a year. Great dialogue and the story lines are current, relevant and funny!
CHRISTA : Did you see the series finale of Hacks (HBO)? They delivered a final episode that was both heartfelt and satisfying—one of the strongest television finales in recent memory. The cast and writers brought their A-game to the finish line. Everything we love about this series came together beautifully in the end. What did you think? We’ll miss you Deborah and Ava!
I also wanted to share another show this week. If you haven’t gotten a subscription to BritBox yet, then now is the time. because The Other Bennett Sister is fabulous! Fans of Bridgerton will love it! Mary Bennett is one of five sisters, but deemed by her mother as the least likely to get married. As you get to know Mary, you will be delighted by her charm and wit and carefree sensibility, and you’ll be cheering her on as she ventures out to find herself. This has definitely been one of the most enjoyable programs I’ve watched in a while. Let me know what you think!
What We’re Wearing
CHRISTA : Great summer staple for your closet – this under $50 dress from Amazon is a perfect one-and-done dress for the summer. It’s a lightweight fabric, but fully lined. Comes in 10 colors/patterns, fit is TTS.
MEGAN : Tuckernuck does the best dresses and this one was perfect for a summer wedding. I added the blazer (air conditioning can get chilly!) and the feather pin just for a bit of fun. I could not have been more comfortable in this dress, not too tight. This dress comes in lots of colors and is under $200. The pink is currently sold out but the red or black are also stunners. The perfect dress for “black tie optional”.
Fit tip: This is more of a pro tip: bring fancy sandals or flip flops for dancing. Literally all of the women – from age 20-75 switched their shoes for dancing after dinner.
What We’re Loving
MEGAN : Let the fancy dog accessories commence. I found these personalized china dog bowls on Zazzle and knew immediately that Birdie needed them.

What We’re Styling: A Beach Weekend
Each week, we share easy outfit ideas inspired by real-life plans and places. Think comfortable, put-together looks you can recreate with what you already own, plus a few fun add-to-cart options if you want to update your closet.
CHRISTA : A beach weekend means lots of time in your swimsuit, so you should definitely pack a few extras. In the last Walk and Talk, I shared my favorite Summersalt “Sidestroke” swimsuit. I am also a huge fan of the swimsuits from Boden. Here are three I recently ordered. I’m so happy to have some options that aren’t black — these amazing colors and patterns feel much more stylish.
While you’re ordering your Boden swimwear, be sure to check out their summer dresses. So many colorful easy-to-wear options to throw on after a long beach day. Most come in petite sizing, too.
MEGAN : GAP has been killing it this year. Their summer collection is no exception. The “Easy” pants and shorts come in a variety of styles and fabrics. Easily my favorite style (see what I did there?). When going to the beach for the weekend, I like a lot of light, breezy fabrics that can be easily mixed and matched. This collection from GAP makes it simple. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend you check out the latest offerings from GAP online. (They are ALWAYS having a sale.) For some reason the in store experience hasn’t had the same multitude of offerings.
Just for Fun
MEGAN : More books for your beach bag, Dolly All the Time by Annabel Monaghan is one of my favorite authors. This is a 5 star beach read, set in coastal Rhode Island — you will fall in love with Dolly as she navigates love in her home town. Gives major Pretty Woman vibes.
CHRISTA : Grad gift idea….I found the cutest collegiate frames today. These magnetic 5×5 frames come in square and scallop in so many college colors. Add in a gift card (instead of a photo) and you have a fun grad gift or a special treat for your fall care package.
