Chocolate Toffee Trifle Dessert

Such a decadent dessert! Years (and years!) ago, Christa's co-workers declared this the "almost better than sex dessert" and the name kinda stuck! Looks like a huge effort, but it's one of the easiest desserts to make. Plus, make it a day before so no work on party day!
Equipment
- 1 trifle dish (see below for options)
Ingredients
- 1 box devil's food cake mix
- 1 6 ounce box INSTANT chocolate pudding mix
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup Kahlua
- 16 ounces Cool Whip
- 1 package Heath toffee bits or Heath candy bars (crushed up)
Instructions
- NOTE: This can be made the day before and chilled overnight.
Prep the Cake
- Prepare the cake according to the box (make 2 round cakes).
- Once cooled, poke holes in the cakes and saturate with Kahlua. You can do this the night before or at least an hour before assembly.
Prep the Remaining Ingredients
- Prepare the pudding mix as directed with the milk.
- If the pudding is too runny, allow to cool for 20 minutes.
Assemble the Dessert
- Use a straight-sided glass bowl or trifle bowl for the best display. (For a fun option, try making this as individual desserts.)
- Layer the bottom with the first layer of cake. (You can break it apart to do this, or simple place in the whole round layer if it fits your dish.)
- Pour half the pudding over the cake layer and spread it to the sides of the bowl (so you can see the layers).
- Spread half of the Cool Whip in the same way.
- Sprinkle half of the toffee bits on top of the Cool Whip.
- Repeat with another layer of cake, pudding, Cool Whip.
- Sprinkle to top with the remaining toffee.
- Chill until serving.
