WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

CHRISTA : In From the Cold (Netflix) is about an American mom — and she’s also an ex-Russian spy who gets called back to her former life. It has mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes — definitely not on the same level as The Americans (which is a GREAT show if you haven’t seen it), but it’s a good binge if you like spy/action/drama shows, with just one season/eight episodes.

MEGAN : Anyone watch the Emmy’s Monday night? As a self proclaimed awards show junkie, I love the fashion, the funny speeches, the upsets – all of it. Here are a few of the big winners from the 2022 Emmys; Succession won best drama, The White Lotus for best limited series and Ted Lasso (what’s up Roy Kent??) for best comedy. HBO Max kicked Netflix’s butt in awards won, which kind of surprised me. Anywho, I’ve seen all three of these winners and I agree. What I haven’t seen is Abbott Elementary and that also won quite a few awards, so Abbott Elementary you are on deck.

WHAT WE’RE WEARING

CHRISTA : Tory Burch recently declared that the ballet flat is back! Marie Claire magazine is also singing it’s praises with a list of “the 22 best ballet flats for 2022!” I’m so happy to know the shoes I never gave up on are back in style. A ballet flat has always been my most comfortable and favorite everyday shoe to wear. The one I’ve owned for years is the Felicia Ballet Flat by Sam Edelman — I have the leopard pair and feel like the pattern elevates even the most ordinary everyday outfit. The Felicia comes in 27 colors/patterns, plus another 13 that are on sale! Something for everyone! Here are a few of my favorites for fall. (Pro tip: if you order on the Same Edelman site, they offer free shipping and free returns.)

I’m also trying The Point flats by Rothy’s. Will report back when they arrive.

WHAT MEGAN’S COOKING

Mickee's Asian Chicken Salad (W30)

www.StyleAmongFriends.com

My friend, Mickee shared this W30 recipe with me last summer. I made it and proceeded to eat the ENTIRE thing. Ooops! Perfect salad to keep on hand in the fridge for busy week day lunches and the dressing is to die for. Seriously, lick the bowl good.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Course Salad
Servings 8

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Cole slaw mix (cabbage with shredded carrots)
  • 1 cup shredded red cabbage
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cups shredded chicken breast I use a rotisserie chicken
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 2 green onions, sliced optional
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds optional

Asian Dressing (I double this because it's that good)

  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tspn minced garlic
  • 1 tspn grated fresh ginger
  • 3 pitted dates

Instructions

  • For the salad, place all ingredients in a large bowl or serving dish and toss to combine.
  • For the dressing, combine all ingredients in a small blender or food processor. Process until the dates are completely bound is the dressing is a creamy texture.
  • Combine salad and dressing just before serving. Enjoy!

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO

CHRISTA : Went to a James Bay concert last weekend with my daughter. I wasn’t very familiar with his music (ok, I knew exactly ONE song! LOL!), and he was great! Because it was the last show on his tour, he gave the crowd everything they could have wanted and more! He did not disappoint and it was such a great performance. Here’s Let It Go (the one song I did know!) — if you enjoy it, here’s a link to more James Bay music on Spotify.

MEGAN : My son turned me onto Billy Strings, have you heard of him? This guy is AH-maz-ing, a seriously gifted musician. Billy brings bluegrass into this century and makes it feel modern. Not to mention his back story and the adversity and tragedy he has overcome to find success. If you are looking for me, I’ll be down the Billy Strings rabbit hole on YouTube.

FRIENDS SHARE THE GOOD STUFF

Have something you love or can’t live without? Did you find a great deal? Well, do tell! Share with us and we’ll pass it along…because friends share the good stuff!

MEGAN : Congratulations to our stylish friend Christie! Christie is the HR director at Paul Reed Smith Guitar and was recently featured in Guitar Girl Magazine. Here is a link to the article about the women behind the scenes at PRS. Christie is rocking this Amazon dress she found on Style Among Friends. Way to go Christie! And thanks for sharing with us, you look amazing.

SOMETHING JUST FOR FUN

CHRISTA : Megan recently shared about the #barbiecore trend in this walk and talk. Are you adding a trendy item to your wardrobe? Well, you don’t have to invest a lot to do so. Have fun with the trends by mixing them in with your existing higher-priced pieces. Here are some fun #barbiecore finds from Amazon that will keep you looking stylish! And check out this article for more about the hot pink trend of 2022.

blazer // blouse // shirt // pullover // crossbody 1 // crossbody 2 // sandals // necklace // earrings // skirt

MEGAN : The easiest entree into #Barbiecore is makeup. If wearing a Barbie pink sweater is a bridge too far for you, how about trying a lipstick, gloss or nail polish? A fun way to try the trend with less of a commitment. I have the Fixing Tint, it’s a lip stain and it is fantastic. You know I’m a die hard fan of the Nail Concealer by Londowntown. Big, huge fan, I’d do the OPI on my toes and the Londontown on my fingers.

SOMETHING YOU NEED (TRUST US!)

MEGAN : I was in Target this week and you guys, there were all kinds of treasures hiding on the racks. This vegan leather belt bag looks high end and is perfect for the winter, it’s super cute with this sweatshirt (my dog walking girls thought it was Zella!). I picked it up in cream but I think I’m going to order it in the pinky purple too. The gold zipper elevates the look. These gold shoes are super cute, giving me Kate Spade in the 90s vibes. Perfect heel height for skirts or slacks. Don’t sleep on these, they will be your holiday outfit hero. Sleeveless blazer – I know, I know who woulda thought? But it’s so cute with pleather leggings and a button down.
