Now Let’s Walk & Talk!
Welcome to Walk & Talk, a weekly hangout for women over 50 who love good finds and great outfits. It’s all about easy looks, favorite things, and the kind of recommendations you’d text to a friend.
CHRISTA : The biggest retail sale of the year is starting at Nordstrom. You can preview the sale this week, build a wish list of favorites and shop your list next week. The best part of this sale is that it’s not the end of season stuff that didn’t sell. It’s new styles for fall/winter from all your favorite brands. And everything is included–clothing for the whole family, travel, home decor, gifts and beauty! It’s a great time to stock up on your tried-and-true favorites, too — hello bras, underwear, leggings and shampoo! And it’s a great time to buy an investment piece, like a leather jacket or designer bag. What’s on your NSale wish list this year?
MEGAN : It’s been said that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is my Super Bowl. I love the NSale because it’s a sneak peek at fall and winter trends—at a discount! While I usually treat myself to one fun, unexpected piece (suede jacket?), I mostly use the sale to restock favorites like Bombas socks, ON Cloud sneakers (I’m on my eighth pair!), and gifts for my family. My best advice? Shop your closet first. Take inventory of what you already own, make a list of the pieces that need replacing (holey sweaters) or updating (jeans!), and then shop the sale with a plan. You’ll save money, avoid impulse buys, and end up with NSale purchases you’ll actually wear.

What We’re Watching
MEGAN : Harlan Coben’s I Will Find You is out on Netflix. Eight 45 minute episodes (all available now) take you through a man wrongly accused or murdering his son. Oh, and he escapes from prison when he finds out his son *might* be alive. No one does a mystery like Harlan Coben, they never disappoint.
CHRISTA : I’m still working my way through all 15 seasons of Call the Midwife this summer (and loving every episode!). When I’m taking a break from all the babies, I’m watching Silo (AppleTV) with my hubby, season 3 premiered last week. The premise of this sci-fi drama is easy– thousands of people live in an underground silo after a toxic event destroyed the Earth. Season 3 promises to provide some of the backstory about what destroyed the planet and share some of the secrets within. I really like Rebecca Ferguson in this series as Juliette, the mechanical engineer who begins to unravel some of the silo’s mysteries.
What We’re Wearing
CHRISTA : A tale of two dresses…both from the “archives” of Style Among Friends and both still available and still in my closet’s current rotation. The cost per wear on these dresses is pennies because I wear them so much. Best part, they both still look like new–both are very washer/dryer friendly.
The dress on the left is a Spanx Air Essentials dupe from Amazon. Looks and feels just like the original for a fraction of the price. The dress on the right is from Nordstrom’s Zella athleisure collection and is a great option for the hottest summer day.
Pro tip: Don’t forget your shorts underneath — necessary for all summer dresses.

MEGAN : My favorite summer uniform is a blue shirt dress. One and done, great alternative to shorts, can be dressed up or casual. I have a collection of blue shirt dresses: polo shirt style, long, short, oxford, collarless, long sleeve, short sleeve. Find the one (or three!) that works best for your lifestyle. You will thank me.
Fit tip: I wear these “shorties” under my dresses to eliminate the dreaded chub rub.

What We’re Loving
MEGAN : My sister in law was recently in Spain and reported back that all the stylish girls were wearing these ankle strap low wedge espadrilles. If the stylish Spanish girlies are doing it, well so are we. Super comfortable, go with everything from wide leg linen pants, shorts to dresses.

CHRISTA : My new mahjong tiles from That Mahjong Moment arrived a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier! The “Best in Show” set are so stinkin’ cute!!!! First off, the presentation was 10/10 from the boxing to the ribbon to the note. And what’s not to love – the craks are adorable puppies, the dragons are fire hydrants and the jokers are mischievous cats! If you are looking for new tiles, I highly recommend That Mahjong Moment. Her designs are beautiful (all with matching mats), and her quality is worth the investment. TMM tiles are on the larger size (which I prefer), so I recommend 20″ racks for them.
Pro tip: Looks like she has three new sets coming this fall, too! Can’t wait to see what she’s got planned.

What We’re Styling: Our NSale Wish Lists
Each week, we share easy outfit ideas inspired by real-life plans and places. Think comfortable, put-together looks you can recreate with what you already own, plus a few fun add-to-cart options if you want to update your closet.
CHRISTA : Every year I buy and return a lot of items from the NSale. Not this year! My list is much smaller than usual and mostly filled with brands I know I love or items worth stocking up on–favorite pajamas, new walking sneakers, cashmere sweaters, favorite denim brand.
I do get inspired every year to buy a “complete look” in their sale. This year I’m eyeing up this leather skirt/cashmere sweater combo.
Be sure to head to their sale if a new jacket or new boots are on your list–as usual, they have a lot of those to choose from.
Shopping Tip: Build your wish list from the preview, and then revisit it a day or two later. A lot of your “maybes” won’t seem as important and will come off the list.

MEGAN : I get excited about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale every year. It’s the perfect opportunity to try a new trend (or 2) and this year it’s a suede jacket and a bandana scarf (if you’ve been curious about the trend, this is an easy way to give it a try!). Before I shop, I always take inventory of my closet. Is it time to replace my favorite black cashmere sweater, update my jeans, or stock up on Tommy John underwear for my boys? Those are the purchases that make the sale worthwhile. And let’s be honest, it’s also the perfect excuse to spend an afternoon at the mall and have lunch with a girlfriend.

Just for Fun
MEGAN : Continuing my summer series: Beach Reads for Women Over 50. Carly Fortune does friends to lovers really well and Our Perfect Storm is proof. You will blow through this book in two sunny days with your toes in the sand. An instant NYT best seller!

CHRISTA : Throw one of these in your pool or beach bag! Blocks the sun so you can actually use your phone outside. Great if you use your phone for reading books, too. Specially designed to use the MagSafe magnetic attachment on your iPhone. Comes in nine colors, and most available for fast Prime shipping. Plus, it’s so stinkin’ cute!
