Memorial Day is just around the corner. It’s time to get ready for summer! Our tips will get you ready to enjoy the season and your outdoor space. Download our summer checklist (below) for easy reference.
Good-bye Winter!
Put away winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves and mittens (wash/dry clean everything first).
- Patagonia has a DIY repair guide on their site and they also offer repairs. “We believe in repairing damaged gear before buying something new.“
- Did you know that Lands’ End has a Lost Mitten Club? “Everyone’s welcome to the Lost Mitten Club. We’ll replace your single in-stock mitten or glove for half the price of a pair. Shipping is on us.”
Clean out your closet to make room for summer clothes. Purge anything that doesn’t fit, is in disrepair or is out of style. (If you didn’t wear it all winter you probably won’t next year either.)
- Check out our post about what to do with your pile of unwanted clothes.
Schedule preventative maintenance for your AC unit.
Get your outdoor furniture ready. For your cushions, try some fabric cleaner or a good long soak in a sink filled with water and Oxi Clean. Pro tip: You can also power wash your cushions!
Refresh your front door. Check out our tips here.
Plan a summer vacation and/or schedule some weekend getaways, trip to a local amusement park, BBQs, and casual get-togethers.
- It’s always nice to have some fun things to look forward to throughout the summer.
- Check out our recent travel posts here.
- Now that our kids are adults, we share a family Google calendar. It makes coordinating our schedules much easier.
Clean up the grill and refill the propane tank.
Hello Summer!
Get ready for summer with a few simple tasks for yourself and your home.
FOR YOURSELF
Get your feet “flip-flop ready” – schedule a pedicure and purchase some foot scrub essentials
Rotate your summer clothes into your closet. Looking for some summer wardrobe inspiration? Check out these posts.
Do you need new swimsuits for the family? Inventory what you have and make a plan to buy what you need. Try our favorite one piece, the “Sidestroke” style by Summersalt.
- Don’t forget hats, sunglasses and coverups, too!
- Pick up a multipack of goggles. (Nobody likes red, itchy chlorine eyes.)
Find some new books to read and a fun summer playlist for the pool/beach.
- The book selections from Reese Witherspoon’s book club are always a great choice.
FOR YOUR HOME
Pretty up the patio with planters filled with summer flowers. Check out Just Knock Knock – they deliver fresh flower arrangements for your outdoor planters.
Stock up on sunscreen. Pro tip: Did you know that sunscreen goes bad? Check the expiration date on any you have left from last year.
Stock up on bug spray and citronella candles. These Thermacell mosquito repellers do a great job keeping the bugs away!
If you need a refresh of your outdoor pillows, Amazon is a great resource for cute and affordable finds!
Order your community’s pool passes and pack your pool bag so you’re ready to go.
Inventory your pool/beach towels (one // two) – throw out anything old, donate what you no longer need, purchase new ones.
Stock your fridge with your favorite summer drinks (and plenty of popsicles) and stock up on basics for summer grilling (refresh your condiments, buy some charcoal or an extra propane tank, consider some new grilling tools).
Have plenty of s’mores ingredients on hand and plenty of roasting forks, like the ones we found that hold two marshmallows).
What else are you doing to get ready for summer? Let us know so we can add it to our summer checklist!
Happy Summer, friends! We hope you make some great memories, take lots of pictures and spend lots of time with your family. Enjoy!
