Walk and Talk (and Easter Baskets)

This week’s walk and talk is brought to you by the Easter Bunny. Today we are discussing what to put in your teen/adult child easter baskets. So many fun ideas came out of our brain storming walk that we knew we had to share them with you. Whether you are sending a care package via bunny mail or the kids are coming home for brunch, everyone likes a little treat.

CHRISTA : When my kids were little, I loved putting together Easter baskets. It was always a fun challenge to come up with a theme and find unique items to put in them. As they got older, though, it got harder because we all know they really just want cash and gift cards. So this week we’re sharing our ideas for “adult” Easter baskets and care packages for your high schooler, college student or young professional.

MEGAN : My kids LOVED an Easter egg hunt, my husband and I would sneak outside after everyone went to bed and hide a million eggs all over our front yard. Long gone are the days of egg hunts but it’s still fun to celebrate with a basket of treats.

CHRISTA : We chose World Market for our Easter baskets. We hadn’t been there in a while so it was a great excuse to go shopping! And, they had such a fun selection of Easter treats and decor, as well everyday items we knew our kids would love. An Easter basket doesn’t have to be just candy and toys — think about their stage of life and what might be fun or useful to have! World Market has a wide variety of unique finds: lots of beauty products for her; home finds for a new apartment; kitchen gadgets for the aspiring chef; fun little tech gadgets; snacks, drinks, and barware for the entertainer; office stuff for the work-from-home type; and much more.

MEGAN : World Market was the perfect field trip to fill our Easter baskets. They have loads of yummy European chocolates and candies. Don’t forget the golden egg for the big prize. $$$

More Ideas for His Easter Basket

  • For the gym junkie: work out gear: wrist wraps, knee pads, fun socks, reusable water bottle and hand chalk — take it up a notch by putting it in a new gym bag instead of a basket.
  • For the newly employed: mole skin notebooks, their favorite pen (we love the Sharpie Gel and the Pilot G2), sticky notes in all sizes, Starbucks card, coffee mug, charging phone stand and a metro card if they commute.
  • For the budding chef: an enameled pot as the basket, silicon spoons/spatulas, a fancy oil (we like Wegmans basting oil), a spice blend or two and your favorite cook book.
  • For the sports fan: tee shirt rep’ing their favorite team, a reusable cup with their team/schools logo add candy all in the team/school colors.
  • For the partier: Fill the basket with their favorite beer/seltzers, limes (as eggs!), a bottle opener and their favorite candy.

More Ideas for Her Easter Basket

  • For the one who loves new beauty products: Travel size/mini-size/sample size beauty products are easy to find at Ulta and Sephora, especially near the checkout.
  • For the aspiring chef: If she likes to cook, look for some fun little kitchen gadgets.
  • For the wine lover: Easter basket shopping at Total Wine? You bet! Individual sized bottles of wine or champagne would be fun! How cute are these!
  • For the work-from-home type: Some new desk accessories for her home office are a nice splurge, including fun gel pens and cute list pads.
  • For the glamour girl: Bracelets and earrings would be fun tucked inside some plastic Easter eggs! Try LOFT for a super cute assortment of spring jewelry.
  • Create a theme basket of her favorite things. For example, add nail polish, foot scrub, hand lotion, flip flops and a gift card for a main/pedi theme.

Some Fun Alternatives to an Actual Basket

  • Fill a cooler with some fun tailgating or picnic supplies.
  • Layer some beauty products on a pretty tray and tie it up in a cellophane bag.
  • Fill a mixing bowl with cooking gadgets.
  • Something fun…attach a gift card to their favorite six pack with some fancy ribbon and tie it up in cellophane. Tuck some candy in between the bottles!
  • A little back pack for skiing and hiking would be perfect filled with their favorite candy.
  • How about filling a lululemon belt bag with some travel sized products?

Packaging Your Basket

Clear bags and ribbon are all you need if you’re wrapping up your basket. Here are a few links:

And one more option…

What We’re Watching

CHRISTA : Yellowjackets Season 2 (Showtime) returns this Sunday! Best female cast ever! Are you watching?

MEGAN : Another oldie but a goodie, The Prestige (2006) Hulu. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan (Batman Returns and Momento); Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale play rival magicians in Victorian England. This psychological thriller has a star studded cast and for those that like period pieces it’s a winner. Spoiler alert: David Bowie is it! One of my kids recommended this and it was really good. Not sure how I missed it during the pandemic, I thought I’d watched everything.

What We’re Wearing

CHRISTA : I’m seeing and loving so many new sandal styles this year, but I really do need to exercise a little self control! Before buying anything new, I did a quick inventory to remind myself of what I already have.

Here’s my collection. I own and wear every one of these (except for one that is in my cart), so I can tell you they’re all comfortable — yes, even my strappy metallic WHBM sandals! They’re all neutral so they’ll go with everything. I wear all of these throughout the summer (and some year-round).

If you can only pick one…

Definitely try the Schutz clear sandals. They are the most worn pair from my closet for the last two years. They go with everything which makes them a perfect sandal to take on vacation, and the 2.5″ heel height is just enough for anything from dresses to jeans.

Row 1: The Circus NY by Sam Edelman flat sandal (color Almond Patent) is a perfect Tory Burch Miller dupe for a fraction of the price. The Schutz clear sandals come in several colors. I have the cork. I ordered the new Sam Edelman Deacon flat sandal as soon as I saw them! (Check out all four colors – you’ll love the “green pear” color, too!)

Row 2: These Lifestride Tango Wedge are a great all-around summer sandal, available in 9 colors (I have Taupe and Black) – available in wide widths, too.

Row 3: This WHBM Metallic Strappy Sandal surprised me last year – it’s comfortable and looks beautiful on! I’ve worn it year-round and it now comes in four more colors. This WHBM Wedge Sandal is in my cart waiting for their next sale! It’s a great look-for-less of these Vince sandals. This suede Splendid Block Heel is a great transition to fall.

Row 4: Yellowbox Jello Flip Flop is my go-to every year for the beach and pool; comes in lots of fun colors. Finally, these ultra-comfortable OOfos OOlala Sandals are the perfect throw-on-and-go errand sandal, or wear them post-workout to soothe your aching feet!

MEGAN : My son and I went on a quick trip to Charleston last weekend for a college visit. While we were out and about I spotted a woman and I immediately thought, “My new spring uniform!!!”. Do you get inspired by other peoples street style? I’m always trying to recreate an outfit that I’ve seen someone wearing.

What makes this outfit so appealing is that like me, you probably already have all the pieces. I did order the short sleeve puffer (hey Martha Stewart on SALE for $45), but this look could easily be recreated with a down vest. Switch the white jeans for blue denim and a white button down, or white flatform sneakers and a solid tee or tank. The variations are endless. Here is your outfit inspiration from my trip to Charleston. NOTE: The Camo tote and short sleeve puffer are not affiliate links so I have linked them individually above.

And if you see me in the grocery store wearing this exact outfit, well we can just giggle and not mention it. <<wink wink>>

Something Quick to Read

CHRISTA : Remember how dreamy the Hardy Boys were? Who else loved them as much as we did? I personally had an entire wall in my room wallpapered with Shaun Cassidy posters from my Tiger Beat magazines! (Yes, friends, I said wallpapered. My mom used wallpaper paste to hang them! Does that make me a super fan?) If you were obsessed like we were, you’ll enjoy this article from Entertainment Weekly, The Case of the Dreamy Detectives: Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson remember The Hardy Boys. Fun facts: Shaun Cassidy is the executive producer on the NBC medical drama New Amsterdam. And Parker Stevenson is a photographer; check out his work here.

Save vs. Splurge

CHRISTA : So identical! They’ll never know you spent a fraction of the price! I bought the dress from Old Navy and love it. I love a classic navy dress for summer with some gold, nude or caramel sandals (any of the sandals above will work!). This dress can be dressed up for dinner or even a wedding, or dressed down with flats and a jean jacket. I think it’s the kind of piece that will get a lot of wear all summer long. Plus, the Old Navy dress is size inclusive, available in XS – 4X.

Save (Old Navy) vs Splurge (Frame)

MEGAN : How about some block heeled sandals to go with Christa’s super cute Old Navy dress? These Bibi Lou (from Spain) block heeled sandals are still pricey, but at $175 they are way less than the Gucci pair for $920. Let’s call them “the look for less”. They also come in silver and a luscious caramel color.
