5 Items We Love in Our Outdoor Spaces

We are loving these long summer days with more time in our outdoor spaces! Many evenings are spent on our patios and decks, sipping a glass of wine or yummy summer cocktail with friends. We’re taking full advantage of the lazy days of summer.

Today we’re sharing five items we love in our outdoor spaces and would purchase again (and again!) – only the good stuff over here! Here is some inspiration for your own outdoor space. Many of these items can be found at a variety of home stores, including Pottery Barn, Home Goods,Target and of course Amazon.

Christa’s 5 Picks

1 Garden Stools

A ceramic garden stool is the work horse of outdoor furniture. They look cute, they’re easy to move around wherever you need one, and you can find them in so many colors and fun styles. I use them as side tables all around our patios and deck. Perfect place to put your drink and snack! Mine is from One Kings Lane. You can also find them on Wayfair, Home Goods, Pottery Barn and Ballard Designs (and, of course, Amazon).

2 Umbrella Table Tablecloth

Finally found a tablecloth that accommodates the umbrella with a handy zipper! Love this for summer on the patio! Available in lots of sizes. Washes easily.

I also use these easy-to-clean placemats and these Cabana melamine dishes (all from Pottery Barn) for our outdoor summer dining.

3 Cantilever Umbrella

This umbrella from Pottery Barn was a new purchase this year and we are so happy with it! Not only is this umbrella big at 10 ft wide, but it can tilt and rotate side to side. It’s just what we needed over our lounge area by the pool. It would also be perfect over a dining table so you don’t have the pole in the middle, and perfect for a small seating area. The fact that it rotates/tilts is so handy to keep it perfectly positioned to block the sun.

4 Pottery Barn Outdoor Pillows

Pottery Barn for the win again for my outdoor needs! Every year, they have a great assortment of outdoor throw pillows – and their quality can’t be beat. I did a little deck refresh this year and added new pillows in shades of chambray blue. My other favorite sites for outdoor pillows include Frontgate, The Company Store and Wayfair. And, don’t forget to check Amazon!

My “pillow formula” is 4+2+1 – four pillows on a sofa, two on a love seat and one on a chair. Might be a little overkill, but I like to see all the extra pops of colors outside! And I like to mix the patterns and sizes for some variety.

5 Patio Roller Shade

Our sitting area under our pergola gets blinded by afternoon sun every day from about 3-5pm – just when we are starting to unwind with our drinks! This roller shade is the perfect solution. Comes in so many sizes and several colors. We easily attached it to the last beam of the pergola. The shade uses a simple crank handle to roll it up/down, but you can also get it with a remote. If you have an extra sunny spot on your deck or patio, this might be just what you need.

Call them if you have any questions – they were very easy to work with. And they offer fabric samples so you can get just the right color.

Megan’s 5 Picks

1 Yellow Terrycloth Chaise Lounge Covers

Last year I updated my chaise loungers and had a vision of terrycloth covers for the cushions. I could not find yellow ones anywhere. So, I got creative and made my own (well, tbh I had them made).I ordered 4 extra large beach towels and had them sewn together – like a pillow case with a zipper on the end. I can take them off and wash them whenever I want.

2 Fire Pit

We use our fire pit all four seasons. Summer for s’mores, fall for a campfire, winter to keep warm and still be outside and spring is to burn all the dead sticks/logs/limbs that fell during the winter. It’s functional and fun!

3 Outdoor Basket

Nothing says elegant patio living like a majestic palm. I love these plants for creating an indoor living room look outside. Wicker outdoor baskets from Target were a huge score this year, they look amazing and will withstand the weather. And, you just plop the planter from the garden center right in!

4 Outdoor Chandelier

Hands down these chandeliers are my favorite outdoor item. I love them, they create such a MOOD. Best news ever – they are currently ON SALE for UNDER $100. Mine are two years old, have lived outside that entire time, are battery operated and still work like a charm. (I change the batteries every few months.)

5 Marshall Speaker

No outdoor living space is complete without a few accessories. Music really sets the mood and this Marshall speaker is a must have. The sound quality is first rate and I love the retro look. The American flag is a standard for us. Coming from a family full of Navy veterans we love to show our colors. Add some planters and a few throw pillows and your outdoor living room is complete.

The outdoor chandeliers are fantastic. I love the idea of having cushion covers made out of towels. The yellow is so fun.
