WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

CHRISTA : Evil (Paramount+) – season 3 finally premiered last week – is about a soon-to-be Catholic priest, a forensic psychologist and a technical contractor, who work for the Catholic Church to investigate demonic possessions, “miracles” and unexplained phenomenon. It’s suspenseful and dark – but also with a little humor. New episodes are released every Sunday.

MEGAN : Just binged The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime. It’s cute and sweet and gave me junior Nancy Myers vibes. Set in New England in a beautiful house that is major coastal grandmother inspiration. This one is definitely PG but worth it for the scenery and sets.

RANDOM STUFF WE PURCHASED

CHRISTA : Very random purchases to share! The new Uno All Wild game is a simple/fast game, but a lot of fun – great to throw in your pool bag for a quick game or bring it to the beach house. The Cayman Jack margaritas are my fav during the summer (look for them in your grocery store or Total Wine). And the mugs from Etsy are perfect for poolside morning coffee.

MEGAN : I was influenced by Grace Atwood (The Stripe) and am now addicted to this nail polish. It’s so good I got the pink AND the white. To my surprise the white is my favorite. If you are looking for a summer polish that looks beachy this is your new friend, it might be my all time fav. I’m shouting it from the rooftops and if you know me, you know I’ve been painting my nails since my mom would let me.

WHAT WE’RE SHOPPING FOR

MEGAN : I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect white, zip up hoodie. There are a lot of them out there but after several misses the winner was found at the Gap. I’m in the large but probably would have been better off in the medium. Perfect for cooler mornings and evenings or afternoons on the beach, post workout, sunset sails… I could go on and on.

WHAT MEGAN’S COOKING

Prep Time 5 minutes
Course Side Dish
Servings 8

Equipment

  • blender or food processor

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp pine nuts
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 juice of lemon
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to blender or food processor and pulse until combined and a creamy consistency. Add more oil if needed.

Notes

I serve this with fresh pasta and add frozen peas as a side dish.  Add chicken or shrimp for a main dish.   This pesto also makes a great spread on a sandwich.   Enjoy!

WHAT WE ARE READING

MEGAN : Meant to Be by Emily Giffin. It’s loosely based on the JFK JR / Caroline Bessette story. Perfect for the beach, not too taxing on the brain but pleasantly entertains. I think it might be my favorite Emily Giffin book so far.

WHAT WE’RE ORGANIZING

CHRISTA : Here’s a quick little project when it’s too hot to be outside – pick one drawer and organize it! Do one every few days and by end of summer, all your drawers will be neat and tidy! It’ll give you loads of satisfaction when you’re done, and it’s easy to do just one at a time. For my junk drawer, I started by removing any items that should have a home elsewhere. I tossed the junk and controlled all the chargers with some cable ties. I’m linking a few products that will make a big difference in any drawer – makeup drawer, junk drawer, desk drawer. Once your clutter is gone and everything has a designated space, it will be much easier to maintain it.

WHAT YOU NEED FOR A DISNEY TRIP

CHRISTA : My daughter, Emily, just returned from a Disney trip with her cousin, Hannah, to celebrate Emily’s graduation. It was over 90 degrees and humid every day, yet they saw and did everything! They walked over 25,000 steps a day (lots of walking and talking!) and took over 1,200 pictures! I’d say that makes them experts now on how to do Disney! These are Emily’s must haves that will work for anyone, any age, if you’re heading to an amusement park this summer and want to stay comfortable. Here’s what Emily had to say:

  • Bike shorts (NOT jean shorts) – “I don’t recommend jean shorts – your thighs will chafe! (Trust me because I wore them on the first day!) Go for the longer bike shorts – wear them alone, or under a dress/skort if you need longer coverage.”
  • Tank tops
  • Athletic dress
  • Skort“This lululemon skort was the favorite thing I packed!”
  • Small backpack (NOT a crossbody) – “It was too hot to wear my crossbody – lots of sweat under the bag! LOL! Stick to a backpack, plus it holds more. Try Loungefly backpacks for something fun!”
  • Small fan
  • Extra socks – “We changed socks midday to prevent blisters. It helped.”
  • Two pair of your favorite sneakers – “I alternated which pair I wore each day, and sometimes changed them midday.”
  • Megababe Thigh Rescue“Better than BodyGlide! But long shorts are still your best option.”
  • Small scissors – “This was very handy for taking tags off the things we purchased.”
  • Final tip: “If you are there for a special occasion, get a celebration pin (available at most gift shops) – it was so fun! You get lots of cast member congratulations and it’s a good conversation starter!”

Fun fact: We are in Italy and they don’t put garlic in the pesto, or so the deli guy tells me.
