Now Let’s Walk & Talk!
Welcome to Walk & Talk, a weekly hangout for women over 50 who love good finds and great outfits. It’s all about easy looks, favorite things, and the kind of recommendations you’d text to a friend.
CHRISTA : Who’s starting to make that seasonal closet switch? Are you packing summer away completely, or just moving the fall favorites front and center? Either way, this is the time of year when getting dressed becomes a little bit of a puzzle. You’re ready for fall, but the weather definitely isn’t! So this week, we’re sharing plenty of inspiration for those in-between outfits that mix summer staples with early fall favorites and somehow work for both the season and the temperature.
MEGAN : Getting dressed in the early fall is a layer game. Chilly in the mornings and evenings but blazing hot in the afternoon. It is light jacket, cardigan, scarf season. If it’s still too warm for layers where you live (hi friends in Florida!) trying switching from whites and pastels to tan, navy, cream, light gray. Sometimes shifting the pallet is all you need to feel seasonally appropriate. Meanwhile, happy pumpkin spice latte season!

What We’re Watching
MEGAN : Everyone’s favorite soccer coach is back! Every Wednesday on Apple you can catch the newest episode of Ted Lasso season 4. Spoiler alert: he’s coaching the LADY Grayhounds!
CHRISTA : Forced to enter society and marry for money to save her family from debt, Sybylla is NOT the marrying type. Follow her as she finds her way in a world where women have no choices, as she makes her way to happiness on her terms. Her character is absolutely delightful! If you like the music of Bridgerton or the characters of The Other Bennett Sister, then My Brilliant Career is for you. Set in 1900 in Australia, with only six episodes – you can finish it in a weekend!.
What We’re Wearing
CHRISTA : LOVE this dress by Betsy & Adam. It’s the “Colette” style and comes in lots of colors, plus a bunch of new colors for fall. (The emerald green is available at Dillards, linked below.) The thick satin fabric is amazing! It’s not only comfortable, but it draped well and stayed wrinkle free. Best part, it comes in petite so NO alterations needed! I paired the green with gold accessories. I will definitely be checking Betsy & Adam again next time I need an event dress. Great quality…worth every penny!

MEGAN :When the kids all go back to school I like to schedule a fun double date night. Just to cheer me up a little, the house feels empty and quiet when they go. I pulled out this oldie but goodie fuschia dress from Talbots. Added my new Target necklace and boom I perfectly matched the restaurant courtyard. This dress is cotton and linen and I promise it was freshly ironed when I put it on, but one short car ride and I look a little wrinkle-y. Sorry Mom!

What We’re Loving
MEGAN : Sugarfix by BaubleBar at TARGET. Yippee! Stumbled on these beauties on an end cap in the jewelry section the other day and I had to restrain myself from buying ALL THE COLORS. At $19.99 each I should have.

CHRISTA : A quick scroll through Social Threads and you’ll have the cutest little early fall outfits in no time. All the tops pair well with your favorite jeans and sneakers. The colors feel like you’re dressed for the right season, but the lighter fabrics and short sleeves get you through the warm temps. The dress is great now with wedges, later with tall boots – perhaps for family portraits this fall. Check ’em out!

What We’re Styling: Early Fall Outfits
Each week, we share easy outfit ideas inspired by real-life plans and places. Think comfortable, put-together looks you can recreate with what you already own, plus a few fun add-to-cart options if you want to update your closet.
CHRISTA : Olive green is popping up in the pre-fall collections of virtually every retailer. It’s a great color to style with some of your favorite summer pieces, and it easily transitions to your fall and winter outfits. It also appears that sweater tees are trending, and they’re a perfect wear now/wear later option. Combine the two, and your olive green sweater tee is the answer to your transitional wardrobe. How are you styling your early fall outfits?
Style Tip: Sweater tees and short sleeve sweatshirts are a great way to keep your wardrobe relaxed and comfortable, but still look pulled together. Add one with joggers and sneakers for your next travel day or pair it with wedges and wide leg denim for date night.

MEGAN : Fall is coming and chocolate suede is on the menu. I’ve been seeing it everywhere, and it’s perfect for your early fall outfits! If it’s a little too warm where you live for a suede jacket, try adding accessories like shoes and bags until there is a chill in the air. Early fall outfits need layers, something to keep you warm in the morning and evening but layers you can shed and still be cute during the heat of the day. It’s two or three season dressing at it’s peak.
Style tip: Denim styles still seem to be all over the place but I have noticed that the barrel style is getting less loose. I’m also seeing LOTS of cuffed denim — great news for the short girls!

Just for Fun
MEGAN : Back on my beach bag BS. The last beach read for the summer is The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion Vol. 1 by Beth Brower. There are eight diaries (books) total and trust me you will want more. Emma M. Lion is a young woman living in London during the 1880s and these are her stories. Really funny, amazing characters — this must become a Netflix series. Best part they are FREE on Kindle!

CHRISTA : My niece introduced us to Flip 7 (thanks, Hannah!). It lots of fun for 3 or more players and the rules are very simple. The object is to get seven cards of seven different numbers, no duplicates or you’re out. You can quit at anytime and keep your points, but where’s the fun in that when the next card might just be the one that gives you seven and all the bonus points! First one to 200 points wins. Simple! But watch out for the action cards that could completely change the game…and the “vengeance” version is even more ruthless. Click the images for the links.
