Now Let’s Walk & Talk!
Welcome to Walk & Talk, a weekly hangout for women over 50 who love good finds and great outfits. It’s all about easy looks, favorite things, and the kind of recommendations you’d text to a friend.
CHRISTA : Football season gives us plenty to cheer about, but some of the best parts of game day are planned well before kickoff. This is your excuse to visit to your college kid, invite friends over, reconnect with old college friends, or turn a Saturday afternoon into an easy fall gathering. And yes, figuring out what to wear is part of the fun, too. (Of course, we have ideas for that!). How are you spending your game days? Plan something for the season opener!
MEGAN : Game Day! Parents’ Weekend! It’s my favorite weekend of the fall and it’s not because I’m a football fall. Nothing beats visiting your child at college and seeing them successfully adulting. Of course the most important part of your game day outfit is the shoes, there will be lots of walking. Start with the shoes and plan your look from there. I like to shop my closet for anything I already own in the school colors, and if nothing turns up — head to the mall!

What We’re Watching
MEGAN : The Other Bennet Sister, one season, 10 episodes, 30 minutes each — a perfect binge scenario. Britbox via Prime has so many good shows and this one is no exception. A reimagined Pride and Prejudice, this series shares the story of the “forgotten” sister, Mary. Charming and funny, you will fall in love with the characters.
CHRISTA : I found another enjoyable BritBox show, A Woman of Substance. Based on Barbara Taylor Bradford’s bestselling novel from the 70’s, the title immediately sounded familiar. I’m almost certain my mom read it on our porch one summer, mixed in with the stacks of Harlequin romance novels she and my aunt picked up at garage sales!
There was also a TV miniseries in the ’80s, but this new adaptation feels completely fresh. It follows Emma Harte’s story from a young housemaid in Yorkshire to a powerful business tycoon, with plenty of romance, betrayal, ambition, and family drama along the way. And with just eight episodes, it’s a great end-of-summer binge when you want something you can actually finish before fall TV begins.
What We’re Wearing
CHRISTA : One and done is my favorite way to dress. My SPANX dress gets a lot of wear because it’s perfect for any event or occasion, and it’s extra comfy. Sadly it’s no longer available, but lucky for all of us that Amazon has a near perfect dupe. And, the Amazon dress is more than half the price, washes great, VERY similar soft fabric, and comes in 12 colors. Grab one to kick off your first tailgate of the season in your favorite team’s color!

MEGAN : I love a set, especially when I travel. You can swap in shorts with the top or a button down with the pants. The GAP has been killing it with their sets lately and I’ve worn this one all summer long. Sometimes a column of color is the perfect backdrop for fun accessories. Next time you are getting dressed, try a set or a column of color and add a jazzy scarf or a “busy” necklace and let that be the statement.

What We’re Loving
MEGAN : My favorite home manicure (Londontown Illuminating Nail Concealer) has a new Gel Topcoat. Sold as a duo, this was an add to cart instantly for me. Perfect for a two week trip or just a home manicure. This stuff really is like magic on your nails.

CHRISTA : I have more mahjong finds to share! I ordered some new 20″ wooden racks. Could not resist this “azalea pink” color from the Charleston Mahjong Club…and they are even prettier in person! Great quality and shipping was very fast, too.
I’m pairing the racks with this new mat from Soiree All Day (they have some great mahjong gifts on their site). The colors in the mat are GORGEOUS! Soiree All Day is new to the mat business, so check out her mahajong collection.
What We’re Styling: Early Fall Game Day Outfits
Each week, we share easy outfit ideas inspired by real-life plans and places. Think comfortable, put-together looks you can recreate with what you already own, plus a few fun add-to-cart options if you want to update your closet.
CHRISTA : Football season is almost here, which means it’s time to answer the important question: What are we wearing? Whether you’re headed to your first tailgate or watching your favorite team from a friend’s couch, game day is always more fun with a cute outfit.
I love shopping smaller boutique sites like Avara for game day. They have so many fun pieces in team-friendly colors that feel festive without screaming football jersey. And your tanks, tees, dresses, and lightweight layers will get plenty of wear throughout the early part of the season (have you ever sat on the sunny side of the stadium?!). Consider this an investment in your fall social calendar.
So, what are you wearing for the first game?
Style Tip: Don’t forget your clear purse for the stadium. This one comes in eight team colors.

Shop Game Day Outfits from Avara
MEGAN : You know how much we love a “one and done” dress outfit here at Style Among Friends. This purple and gold boho dress is perfect for an early fall game day. You will be cool and comfortable in this light weight, sleeveless cotton dress. Don’t forget to wear a comfortable pair of sneakers, you will be walking A LOT. Add a hat, sunnies and some jewelry and you will be ready for a full day of marching bands and sports. I like to bring my own cup to the tailgate, my current favorite is this Tervis Tumbler. Don’t forget your clear bag!

Just for Fun
MEGAN : Not my usual beach read, last week my FAVORITE cookbook author – Caroline Chambers (@carochambers on IG) published a new book. And you guys, I got to meet her! Total fan girl moment for me. She is a gem of a human, an excellent IG follow, fabulous cook and the kind of girl you want to be friends with.

CHRISTA : Tissues for the car, but make them cute, please! One to stash in each door. Or fit one in your cupholder. Perfect and pretty! Just what we love.
