Welcome to Walk & Talk, a weekly hangout for women over 50 who love good finds and great outfits. It’s all about easy looks, favorite things, and the kind of recommendations you’d text to a friend.
CHRISTA : We hope you’ve had a chance to browse the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! If not, make a date of it. Grab a friend, head to the sale, then linger over lunch. It’s one of our favorite summer outings. And if you’re not in the mood to think about sweaters and winter coats while it’s 90 degrees outside, don’t overlook the everyday essentials. The NSale is a great time to stock up on basics like leggings and underwear, along with beauty favorites and everyday staples like shampoo, skincare, and makeup. Your future self will thank you! Just don’t wait too long. The sale ends August 9.
MEGAN : The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale always gets me excited for fall/winter fashion. The colors, denim cuts and shoe heights are great indicators of what we will be seeing in the coming season. If you only buy one item at the NSale I recommend a Nordstrom brand cashmere crew neck sweater. Stock is constantly refreshed and some new items were added the the other day (mid sale!). Shop til you drop or August 9th.
What We’re Watching
MEGAN : Did anyone read Five Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand? Loved the book and the limited series is out on Peacock starring Jennifer Garner. I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ever said this, the show is as good (or better) than the book. Great casting. Five Star Weekend will make you want to get on the next flight to Nantucket for a girls weekend.
CHRISTA : Something new to start this summer. Lucky airs every Wednesday on Apple TV. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy as Lucky, a girl on the run being chased by the FBI and a mob-boss for the millions she stole. Also stars Annette Benning and Timothy Olpyhant.
What We’re Wearing
CHRISTA : This is my mahjong night outfit, comfy but chic! The SPANX AirEssentials wide leg pants were a great find at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (shown in “dark cacao”). Sadly mine sold out, but Nordstrom still has them on sale in a rust “Sienna” color, and I’ve linked to the same pair on the SPANX site. Remember, the column of color trick that Megan’s always sharing even works with your athleisure!
I’m also loving the “Dune Heather” color — they would make a great travel outfit paired with this cashmere hoodie sweater (on sale).
Fit tip: I’m 5’4 and the petite length are just right for me, maybe even a smidge long, but with sneakers they’ll work.
MEGAN : I love an end of season sale and this summer has been no exception. Everything I’m wearing is on sale and under $50. Excellent staples that I’ve owned and worn for multiple summers (minus the top – she’s new!). Shop the end of season sales to refill your basics like linen pants and sandals.
What We’re Loving
MEGAN : The one that got away? I’ve had a navy blue leather jacket on my wish list for two years. Check out this beautiful navy leather bomber in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It’s in my cart but I’m having pre-buyers remorse. What if I don’t wear it as much as I think I will? Is it worth the splurge? You guys, she’s a beaut and currently sitting in my cart.
CHRISTA : One of my favorite purchases from the NSale is still fully stocked in all sizes. This bomber jacket is so fun and the fit is so cute! Comes in regular and petite (I’m 5’4 and ordered petite for the perfect sleeve length). I can’t wait to wear this with althleisure. It also comes in a light beige/cream color.

What We’re Styling: Something from the BIG Sale!

CHRISTA : One of my favorite Nordstrom Anniversary Sale strategies is to shop for complete outfits instead of individual pieces. (In the last walk and talk, I shared that I was eyeing up this skirt/sweater outfit.) It’s easy to get distracted by all the great finds, but thinking in outfits helps you stay focused and buy items you’ll actually wear together. Not only does it make shopping less overwhelming, but it also means you’re far less likely to discover something months later with the tags still attached, wondering what you were planning to wear it with. Here’s one outfit I’m eyeing up this year!
And since I’m generally wearing athleisure most days, tI’m searching for some new athleisure looks from Zella. The sale always has a great selection of mix and match pieces for endless outfits.
MEGAN :Jeans, a cashmere sweater and sneakers are my fall uniform. Add a light jacket and a crossbody with a pop of red and I’m in business. While pulling together this look I stumbled on the waterproof sneakers. Um, hello! Super excited about these, the slim line and no logo is right on trend.

Just for Fun
MEGAN : Beach read alert! The Shampoo Effect by Jenny Jackson is now available. I have been eagerly awaiting this book’s release since spring. I’m half way through and can already tell I’ll have a book hangover when it’s done. If you loved Jackson’s Pineapple Street you will not be disappointed.
CHRISTA : I know it’s 100 degrees out…but Anthropologie just released their Halloween collection and there’s so much to love! I purchased these BOO letters last year and they sold out by the time I wanted to share them. But they’re back again! Perfect for your mantle, sideboard, or console table. And, they light up!
