WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

CHRISTA : If you’re looking to binge something fun that doesn’t have a complicated plot or lots of character names to remember (I’m looking at you House of the Dragon!), then try Sprung (Amazon). It’s about a group of convicts who get early release when Covid starts, and they hatch a plan together to get rich quick. You’ll have fun with these characters!

MEGAN : We watched The Greatest Beer Run Ever (Apple TV+) last weekend. I had very little expectations other than Zac Efron and Vietnam War movie. You guys, it was great – a crowd pleaser, feel good movie and it’s based on a true story!

A HEAD START ON THE HOLIDAYS

Get a head start on the holidays this year with our tips to help you plan ahead, featured every Friday through November. Pro tip: If you’re a subscriber to our blog you’ll get your weekly holiday to-do’s right in your inbox. Not a subscriber yet? No problem, subscribe now.

THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE: HOLIDAY CARDS

If you send holiday cards this challenge is for you!

1. If you want a family photo for your holiday card, start planning now. If you want professional portraits, schedule with a photographer ASAP. (Local peeps, try Marion Meakem Photography!) If you don’t need a professional portrait, ask a friend who takes great pics (or has the newest iPhone!).

2. Review your list of who you’re sending cards to this year. Add, delete and update addresses. Then order enough stamps and return address labels. Pro tip: Order your stamps online.

3. If you don’t hand write your card addresses, then print those address labels, too.

4. You can go one step further — pick out your card. We recommend Minted for holiday cards (see below). (They also have beautiful non-photo cards if a photo isn’t happening!)

MINTED HOLIDAY CARDS

Looking through the Minted site is a great way to get some outfit inspo and posing ideas for your own family photo. Pro tip: Subscribe to Minted because they will run specials on holiday cards throughout the upcoming months, like Black Friday.

RANDOM STUFF WE LIKE

CHRISTA : Time for new fall scented candles. We currently have a debate in our house over which one is better — Harvest Gathering or Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin (by Bath and Body Works). I like them both! Do you have a go to fall scent?

MEGAN : I’m updating my perfume for fall/winter. This (new to me) brand Commodity, scent “Milk”. The scent is spicy, with vanilla – not too strong. It’s apparently very popular, sold out in person everywhere but available online at Sephora.

WHAT WE’RE SHOPPING FOR

CHRISTA : Have you given your front door a fall refresh yet? Here are some options for wreaths that will welcome your guests from now until Thanksgiving!

WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO

CHRISTA : Went to a Panic! At The Disco concert last weekend with my daughter and it did not disappoint. Fantastic show with non-stop music! They had the crowd on their feet and the energy in the arena was amazing! If you like this video, here’s more Panic! At The Disco on Spotify.

Pro tip: When the concert venue has a “No Bag” bag policy (i.e. wallets/clutches no larger than 5″ x 7″), this little lululemon bag to the rescue. This little bag fit my iPhone, ID, credit card, lipstick…and yes, even my readers (although saying that now makes this whole thing seem way less cool!).

MEGAN : I’ve been listening to (aka catching up on my) podcasts this week. Learned an interesting fact that I had to share. Did you know that 85% of women are wearing the wrong size bra? Do a little test: when wearing your bra your nipple line should fall half way between your shoulder and elbow. Ahhhh mine was a little closer to the elbow than I’d like to admit. Found this fascinating gem on The Fashion Crimes Podcast, episode 111.

WHAT MEGAN’S COOKING

Slow Cooker Thai Basil Chicken Curry

www.StyleAmongFriends.com

My kitchen reno is underway so dinners are looking a little different around here. This slow cooker chicken curry is yummy. Served over microwaved rice with naan heated up in a skillet on my burner plate. Not bad, if I say so myself.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 4 hours
Course Main Course
Servings 4

Equipment

  • 1 slow cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs skinless, boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 can coconut milk (full fat)
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce sub: soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp lime juice sub: rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp coconut or palm sugar sub: brown sugar
  • 1 onion - diced
  • 1 jalapeno - diced sub: bird eye chili
  • 4 cloves garlic - chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger (freshI) grated
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • 1/3 cup fresh basil (chopped)
  • 1 cup spinach

Instructions

  • place chicken, coconut milk, curry powder, fish sauce, lime juice, sugar, onion, jalapeno, garlic and ginger into the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 3 hours. Before shredding the chicken add in cilantro, basil and spinach.

Notes

Serve over rice, with naan bread .  Enjoy!

SOMETHING JUST FOR FUN

CHRISTA : For your next road trip, you’ll want to check out this site for some great ideas to enjoy along the way. Something to beat those “are-we-there-yet” blues!

Family road trip from Dallas to DC, May 2004

MEGAN : Kitchen update! Each day we make a little progress. You can see the wall between the old dining room and kitchen is gone. I’m officially cooking in my “camp” kitchen. I’ve only blown the fuse twice.

SOMETHING YOU NEED (TRUST US!)

MEGAN : As I continue my quest for the perfect “my lips but better” natural pink lipstick, I present to you this week’s candidate. It should be noted that I had to go to two different Sephoras to find this in stock and she did not disappoint. A slightly more poppy pink than my natural lip color, but it’s staying power is fantastic. A tiny bit drying but nothing a little gloss can smooth out. I’d call this more of a lip stain than a lip stick. I’m giving this a B+ for those keeping score. Transfer-proof Matte Liquid Lipstick by Gucci

AND, HERE’S WHERE WE WALKED

This is the mood where we live. Rain, rain, go away! We have no walk pics, but did get our weekly selfie when Megan was heading to the grocery store. A blogger’s gotta do what a blogger’s gotta do. Meanwhile we’re over here building an ark.
