We took a field trip to Nordstrom and found nine fall trends to update your wardrobe. It felt like we went “back to school” shopping! Here are a few of the trends we found that will update your current wardrobe.
MEGAN : One of my favorite traditions growing up was back-to-school shopping with my mom. I loved picking out a new outfit and shoes for the new school year. And school supplies, don’t get me started. The smell of waxy crayons and glue sticks take me right back to Mrs. Foster’s fourth grade class.
CHRISTA : Oh, there was nothing like a new back-to-school outfit as a kid. But that sweater and jeans usually had to wait because back-to-school day was always too warm for those new clothes! That’s not a worry today — many of the fall styles we saw are very transitional and work nicely from warmer to cooler temps.
What new pieces are you adding to your closet this fall? Happy shopping, friends!

Are skinny jeans going away? No, don’t worry. But wide leg denim is back and it’s a whole different kind of fun. From mini boot cut to bell bottom there are lots of choices. We find that a higher rise with a more fitted top gives the most flattering silhouette.
Megan’s Wish List: Kut from the Kloth Meg Jeans

There were plenty of Chelsea boot options in the shoe department at Nordstrom. We definitely think you need a pair. Not only are they fashionable, many of them are waterproof too, making them a practical choice for the winter.
We also saw a wide variety of block heel style booties and western-inspired styles.
Megan’s Wish List: Blondo Salome Waterproof Boot pro tip: runs small, size up.
Christa’s Wish List: Caslon Miller Water Resistant Chelsea Boot (on sale up to 34% off!) – love the “green moss” color!
How cute are these Mary Jane style heels? Perfect with black slacks and a blazer for work. We saw the flat version in velvet and they gave a fun boho vibe to floral dresses or jeans.
Megan’s Wish List: These Francis Valentine Jude Mary Jane flats in red totally caught my eye. How cute with cropped black pants or skinny jeans?
Christa’s Wish List: Sam Edelman Michaela Mary Jane Flat (Sam Edelman has lots of cute velvet flats and loafers this season!)
Floral was big in spring and summer of 22 and the trend has continued into fall. Lots of peasant style floral tops and dresses (perfect to wear with your new velvet Mary Janes!).
Megan’s Wish List: Love this Free People floral top in red. Would be look good with the Kut Meg jeans. Pro tip: Size down 1 or 2 sizes on this top.
Christa’s Wish List: This Treasure & Bond Allover Print Short Sleeve Top is a great early fall go-to.
5 Rust, Light Mauve, and Burgundy is Everywhere!
Three colors dominated the racks…rust, mauve and burgundy. Together or separate we saw lots of these colors in every section. If these are not your “colors” try working them into your wardrobe with a new jacket or pants — or even a purse.
Megan’s Wish List: We saw a lot of western styles and not just boots. This Treasure and Bond plaid shirt combines these trending colors.
Christa’s Wish List: Lucky Brand Split Neck Peasant Top
Pro tip: Add a little fall color at your next pedicure with OPI’s “Miami Beet.”
Puffy sleeves, peplum hem, cut outs, mandarin collars – so many details in shirts and blouses. Really it’s a great way to add interest to a “uniform” outfit of jeans and boots.
Megan’s Wish List: I’m in love with this Frame silk reptile blouse. Dress it up with black slacks or down with boot cut jeans.
Christa’s Wish List: This Rails Rosie Floral Smocked Peplum Top is cute dressed up with black pants or down with denim.
Plaid blazers were everywhere in Nordstrom. Each grouping of mannequins had at least one – it was like a convention of car salesmen. Perfect for fall and makes me wonder if we will see more tailored menswear pieces this winter and spring of 23.
Megan’s Wish List: I love this snazzy little blazer, would wear it with jeans or cream cords. (on sale 40% off!)
Christa’s Wish List: Veronica Beard Theron Houndstooth Blazer (great price — on sale 40% off!)
8 Anything Veronica Beard!
It’s definitely an investment, but we think your closet NEEDS a Veronica Beard piece this fall. The Veronica Beard brand is nailing the fall style trends!
Megan’s Wish List: It was love at first sight when I saw this little quilted crop jacket on the mannequin.
Christa’s Wish List: Love this Veronica Beard Amity Stripe Henley Top for early fall, later with a cute jacket.
9 Neon Accessories…aka Barbiecore!
We love a little pop of neon and accessories are the best way to partake in this trend.
Megan’s Wish List: I love an Alexander McQueen skull scarf and this one screams Barbiecore in Barbie pink of course!
Christa’s Wish List: Kate Spade Meringue Leather Crossbody in Lime Slice
