Are you a “Lookie Lou” like us? Ever wondered what essentials someone carries in their purse? Get ready to take a sneak peek into the world of two practical yet stylish ladies (us!). Forget the clichés; we’re diving deep into the real deal of what makes our handbags so indispensable. Checkout what’s in my bag!
We see purses as more than an accessory—it’s our lifeline. From that trusty lipstick to those oh-so-important reading glasses, it’s all in there. But wait, there’s more! Think skincare saviors, maybe a little notebook filled with wisdom, and of course, a dash of everyday magic (like a Tide pen!). One of us a “just the essentials” girlie and the other is more of a Mary Poppins, everything but the kitchen sink. Which one are you?
Keep reading to uncover the treasures that make up the perfect purse for navigating the adventures of life over 50.
What’s in Megan’s Bag
Obviously I’m the Mary Poppins of this duo. Hey, you never know when you might need a book to read, an extra pair of glasses, a Tide pen or a charger for EVERY DEVICE KNOWN TO MAN! I don’t typically use a black bag this time of year (lightening things up for spring and all) but this Naghedi look for less called to me. Truthfully it’s the crossbody strap that won my heart, I switched the plain black one that it came with for an old strap from a Madewell bag. This purse will carry me right up to summer, the “vegan” material (it feels kind of like neoprene?) makes it super light weight and it doesn’t feel as “heavy” as a black leather bag. Perfect for travel, too! I would consider the photo of the contents to be “just the essentials.”
WHAT’S IN MY BAG?
- readers (never leave home without two pairs) – current favs
- sunnies (always the optimist)
- an assortment of lipstick/glosses
- universal charger because I live in fear of falling off the grid
- Tide pen for unfortunate incidents
- I’ve had the LV wallet for a gazillion years, it’s not linkable, Bloomies and Nordstrom carry in store
- purse strap (I have a rack of these in my closet, a little accessory for my accessory)
- a Blackwing blank book with a Blackwing pencil for when I get inspired
- never without a book, this is my current book club selection
- BLINK! for dry eyes
- sunscreen because you never know when the suns going to pop out
- plug in headphones because the other ones won’t stay in my ears
- the cutest fuchsia pouch from Target to keep all the bits and bobs corralled

What’s in Christa’s Bag
If you’re looking for minimal, I’m your girl. I like to keep it light and uncluttered with only my must-haves! (My must-have list is definitely shorter than Megan’s list!) A crossbody is my go-to bag, and I have lots of them in different colors. When there isn’t much inside your purse, it’s a breeze to switch it to coordinate with your outfit. I love this Michael Kors crossbody (and here with silver accents) – comes in many colors and it’s a steal under $100 (regular $398!). The black one is a good wardrobe essential, but this pink is a fun pop of color with my neutral outfits!
WHAT’S IN MY BAG?
Shocking that you can practically count the contents of my bag on one hand!
- Kate Spade card case wallet
- lipstick (in goes-with-everything “Hibiscus”)
- readers (so practical – a five pack for under $15!) and sunglasses
- lotion
- “emergency” protein bar
- car key

Organize Your Bags (Inside and Out)
While we’re on the subject of purses, when was the last time you cleaned it out? Consider this a sign to dump the contents and do a check of what you’re carrying around with you. You never know what you’ll find!
To help you stay on top of it, here are some Amazon finds to keep everything inside your bag organized, and keep all of your bags organized in your closet.

I knew without looking at the label which contents were Megan’s. #motherknows Love the quote!
My friends are big fans of your blog. The other night I said something about Megan and her friend she writes the blog with and Irene said, “Oh, that’s Christa!”
Glad you’re enjoying the blog!
