weeklong walking with a friend

Welcome to our weekly “walk and talk,” where we bring our weekly walks to you. Our walks are a time to catch up on family life, share online shopping hits and misses, exchange recipes, discuss our newest Netflix binge — all the stuff that friends share with each other. And now we’re sharing with you!

What We’re Watching

IT’S BACK! : If you are looking for us this weekend, we’ll be busy…binging the final seven episodes of Ozark (Netflix). Are you watching? Season 4 Part 2 premieres today! In case you need a refresher before you settle in, here’s everything you need to know before you watch.

CHRISTA : The Outlaws (Prime Video) is a dysfunctional group of people all thrown together because they’re on probation. It’s an odd mix of characters, including stars Christopher Walken and Stephen Merchant. They do a great job of not only giving you the backstory of each character and how they landed in their present situation, but they also develop an entirely new story with even more trouble for them. Each character is interesting and funny in their own way, and they all play off each other very well. I think you’ll enjoy getting to know “The Outlaws.”

MEGAN : Woop Woop! Can’t wait to spend the weekend with my pal, Marty Bird! If Ozark is not your jam, try Anatomy of a Scandal (Netflix). Limited series, British drama, scandalous…as the title says. Sienna Miller, where have you been?? It’s a good one with a twist that I definitely didn’t see coming. Looking forward to Season 2.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

If you’re still shopping, here are a few more things we’re loving right now that would make great gifts. (In case our families are reading the blog, hint hint!)

What We’re Shopping For

MEGAN : I saw this necklace (not on sale) during the Anthro sale last week. Window shopping fail. It will look great all summer with dresses and V-neck tee shirts. I’m planning to layer it with other gold necklaces. The colors are so good, you (and by you I mean I) might need two!

CHRISTA : Our pool opened this week, so I’m thinking about drinks on the patio! These (shatterproof) tumblers are perfect when you’re poolside or on the deck…just add the cocktails!

  • These pretty blue tumblers are in my cart! Perfect for serving your favorite summer cocktail outside, just the right size at 13 ounces. (Add these tall tumblers – 18 ounces – for a complete set.)
  • With this pack of 50 napkins, you’re ready for guests all summer long!
  • Pro tip: Fill your glasses with one of these summer wine cocktails!

What’s on Sale

CHRISTA : Sale Alert! My sherpa pullover is on sale at Garnet Hill for $54 – reg. $139. I love this for cold morning walks. Super cozy and right now, it’s such a great deal! It comes in two colors (and yes, I ordered a second one!), it washed really well, and on a 40 degree day, it’s all I need with a long sleeve t-shirt underneath. I especially like that the back is a little longer for better coverage.

Save vs. Splurge

MEGAN : If you’re a haphazard sunglass stasher like me, consider the save version of these summer essentials. Your wallet will thank you when you scratch them. They are both polarized and look very similar, even the cases they come with look the same! One pair is north of $250 the other is under $25. Can you tell the difference?

And, here’s where we walked

A peek along our walk…

Walk (and Talk)…with Friends

We’re keeping it among friends, and this week our friend Nicole joined the “Walk and Talk.” Nicole is a Board-Certified Health & Wellness coach and Registered Nurse.  She has a private practice coaching business, Theatre RN (www.theatreRN.com) that focuses on health & wellness coaching for people in the theatre arts. Here’s what Nicole shared about the benefits of walking:

NICOLE : Because I spend a lot of time talking with clients that work in theatre spaces, we talk a lot about getting outside and enjoying nature. When you work in a closed space with no windows, you get little sun & fresh air. That means that your Vitamin D levels are going to likely be really low.  We synthesize most of our natural vitamin D from sun exposure on the skin.

Low Vitamin D impacts respiratory health, immune health, endocrine health, and brain health.  Getting outside for 20-30 minutes a day helps vitamin D production.  In fact, getting morning sunlight also boosts your melatonin production in the body.  If you aren’t getting enough from the sun, you need a supplement.  My goto brands for Vitamin D3 are Nordic Naturals and Country Life.  Note: Get your Vitamin D levels checked before starting any supplements. Fun fact:  Good Vitamin D levels help protect against skin cancer. If you are looking for a Vitamin D supplement, I like this one or this one.

Recommended Podcasts

I am a podcast/audiobook girl while I am walking outside.  It’s very therapeutic for me to decrease the stressors in my day. My favorite podcasts right now are:

  • We Can Do Hard Things by Glennon Doyle (a great podcast for all relationship and women’s topics). I admit they really do make me cry often because I relate to so many of their struggles.
  • The Doctor’s Farmacy with Dr. Mark Hyman which focuses on health topics around Functional Medicine. This is my health and nutrition science go to.
