weeklong walking with a friend

Welcome to our weekly “walk and talk,” where we bring our weekly walks to you. Our walks are a time to catch up on family life, share online shopping hits and misses, exchange recipes, discuss our newest Netflix binge — all the stuff that friends share with each other. And now we’re sharing with you!

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

CHRISTA : Life & Beth (Hulu) follows Beth (played by Amy Schumer) as she’s reevaluating her life choices after a traumatic event. It’s humorous, touching and thoughtfully done, and the flashbacks to Beth’s teen self weave in and out of the story perfectly to help bring it all together. It’s a good little binge with 30 minute episodes. I hope you enjoy it!

MEGAN : WeCrashed (Apple TV), a dramatic mini series (8 episodes) based on the podcast WeCrashed: The Rise and Fall of WeWork by Wondery. The series tells the love story of Adam Neumann and his wife Rebekah and how they started WeWork. Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway star in the show and they are AHhhh-mazing. Jared Leto is a serious chameleon and Anne Hathaway totally steals the show, imo. Rumor has it that Jared Leto stayed completely in character the entire time they filmed. Add it to your list!

RANDOM STUFF WE LIKE

CHRISTA : Loving this new-to-me nail color for spring, called “(P)ink on Canvas” by OPI (available in both dip and regular polish). Mostly pink, but leans toward orchid. Local friends: if you’re at VIP Nails in Herndon, it’s color 217.

MEGAN : Portable LED lamp, how much more random can we get? I’m obsessed. It’s perfect for outdoor dinning and looks much more expensive than it is. Adding two more to my cart!

WHAT WE’RE WEARING

CHRISTA : Does anyone else struggle when the temps fluctuate as much as they have been lately? I think this open cardigan is just the answer. To style it, I’ll use Megan’s go to formula – a column of color matching my top and bottom. I’ll layer it over a white T-shirt and white jeans for a pulled together look, and I’ll also add a leopard belt (I consider leopard a neutral since it goes with everything). Getting dressed doesn’t need to be complicated!

walk and talk

MEGAN : I’ve been keeping it simple lately with lighter colors. Khaki pants (similar), a baby blue sweatshirt, sneakers and a silver necklace (similar). Casual, springy and comfortable.

SOMETHING YOU NEED (TRUST US!)

MEGAN : It’s an investment piece, but you will get your monies worth in cost per wear from this item. I promise. This is my most worn item this winter and spring, by far – this cashmere hoodie. Seriously, I wear it over my pajamas on chilly Saturday mornings, I throw it on over a tee shirt and jeans to go to a lacrosse game, I keep it on the back of my office chair. This beauty elevates anything you throw on. It’s that good.

SAVE VS. SPLURGE

CHRISTA : The Tory Burch Miller Cloud sandals definitely have a cult following online, but for the $238 price tag, they just weren’t wowing me. I spotted these by Dolce Vita this spring, and for a fraction of the cost and more comfort, they’re a winner in my book! I love the light blue to wear by the pool. And, as a bonus, for about $40 a pair, you could afford a few of their other cute colors! (Pro tip: I normally wear an 8.5, and the size 8 in the Dolce Vita fit well.)

MEGAN : If Gwyneth can rock them so can we. Birkenstocks are not just for the hippies anymore. For those with achy feet they are a life saver and I must say the color and style selection has greatly improved since the 90s. If you’re not totally onboard with this investment piece ($99.95), try this one that looks very similar and has over 40k reviews ($29.99)!

3 UNDER $30

CHRISTA : Our dogs are great walking buddies (read more here). Here’s my dog, Shelby, a 7 year old rescue dog (rescued from Puerto Rico). When she hears her leash come out, she knows it’s time to go for a walk! Shelby is sharing this week’s “3 Under $30” picks with you:

walk and talk
  • 6 ft Heavy Duty Leash – I prefer the longer 6 ft leash so I have room to roam and sniff. The clasp rotates to keep the leash from twisting. There is an extra “traffic handle” for training or situations when I’m nervous and need to be close to my people. The handle is padded making it comfortable for my humans to hold.
  • No Pull Dog Harness – This no pull harness has two buckles and is easy to get on over my head; has four adjustments for a perfect fit. The handle can be used with the seat belt so I have a secure ride in the car. Available in four sizes, eight colors.
  • Handsfree Poop Bag HolderWhy do humans carry around poop? Stop carrying around a bag of poop and buy one of these to hang off your leash!

AND, HERE’S WHERE WE WALKED

A peek along our walk…thank you, Mother Nature, for the VERY chilly 40 degree mid-April morning! Please don’t make up for it with 100+ degree days in July!

First impressions count! On Monday we shared three easy steps for a quick front door refresh.

On Wednesday Megan shared a recap of her recent trip to Charleston. Let’s just say it was five star! She also included some packing tips/outfit links you can use for your next vacay. Stay tuned: part 2 with Christa’s trip to Miami will be coming up on Monday.

Don’t forget that Mother’s Day is May 8. We have a great Mother’s Day gift guide featuring items we love from Etsy. Our gift guide is also perfect if you need a birthday gift, a shower gift, or end-of-year teacher gifts.

Coming soon…gift guides for hostesses, grads and dads!
