Welcome to our weekly “walk and talk,” where we bring our weekly walks to you. Our walks are a time to catch up on family life, share online shopping hits and misses, exchange recipes, discuss our newest Netflix binge — all the stuff that friends share with each other. And now we’re sharing with you!

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

CHRISTA : I haven’t watched yet and can’t wait to get started this weekend! If you started (or finished!) Stranger Things (season 4, vol. 1, Netflix), what did you think? No spoilers please, but leave your thoughts in the comments!

MEGAN : I’m not sure how I missed this back in 2016, but Flaked (Netflix) is great. If you are looking for something low impact and entertaining this is for you. Will Arnett (from the Smartless podcast) created it, wrote it, stars in and directs some of the episodes. There are only two seasons, but it left me wanting more.

WHAT WE’RE WEARING

If you’re a “white after Memorial Day” girl, it’s time! Break out those whites from your closet! Need a few ideas? We’re here to help with some of your top five items from May, plus a few new options.

CHRISTA : Nothing says summer style like a crisp white dress! If you don’t have one yet, your search is over. These three look cute and keep you cool!

  • I love this “perfect white dress” from WHBM – the name says it all!
  • And I just got this longer midi dress. The white linen fabric is perfect for summer and it has a nice fit with the a-line style. Sometimes a midi dress overwhelms with fabric, but not this one.
  • And, if you’re looking for easy breezy style to throw on, try this white dress by one of my fabric brands on Amazon (this one reminds me of this more expensive J.Crew dress that’s very popular!).

All three of these dresses would be perfect with flat sandals, wedges or block heels (check out some sandal ideas here). And don’t forget the accessories – add this necklace Megan recently shared on Instagram for a fun pop of color. With a white summer dress in your closet, you’ll be set for the entire season no matter where you’re going!

MEGAN : It’s no secret I’m a fan of “the uniform”. For summer it’s often white jeans and a cute top. This lavender puff sleeve cutie from Target is getting a lot of mileage. It’s also great with light denim, jean skirts, army green pants…basically anything! Other tops I’ve been gravitating towards this spring/summer are my blue button down from Everlane, the one shoulder, ruffle, black Target top, and a solid tee.

READER REQUEST

“What are your thoughts on the ‘nap dress’? Is it just for millennials or can us Gen Z’ers wear them too?”

MEGAN: I first noticed the nap dress trend during Covid quarantine and tbh it was only millennials that I saw wearing them. But, Who What Wear just shared a snapshot of JLo wearing a Nap Dress!  Hill House Home started the trend, however lots of designers are making variations of them now. After the JLo sighting I must admit I ordered one! Will give my full report… Follow up: You guys, I LOVE my nap dress! I got the Ellie in navy and it’s perfect, even has pockets! I don’t feel like mutton dressed as lamb, at all. Highly recommend as your easy, breezy, throw on and go summer dress. I’m going to get Christa to try mine on, let’s see if I can convert her!

CHRISTA: I think I’ll pass on the nap dress. I love a great summer dress, but I have a larger bust, and I don’t like the look of all that smocking across my chest! LOL! I think they’re cute, and if you’re intrigued by them, definitely give it a try! And these LOFT dresses are a super cute dupe, without the smocking, so this might be a good option if you want a similar look.

And if you just love a good fashion story or you’re just curious about the nap dress trend, check out this article about how socialite Nell Diamond made the nap dress a fashion must-have!

SOMETHING JUST FOR FUN

MEGAN : I had COVID last week and quarantined in my bedroom. Good news, my symptoms were mild and I am recovered. I figured some of you might be sick and isolating from your families, too, so I created a list of top 10 things to do. Enjoy.

  • read a book I plowed through The Lost Summers of Newport in a day.
  • nap
  • clean out your drawers Time to get rid of the holey work out shirts and the pilled yoga pants.
  • list any items that are in good shape for sale on Poshmark Refer to this post on donating closet items for additional ideas.
  • take a bath in Epsom salts 20 minute minimum to get the benefits.
  • clean out your make up drawer Makeup expires! Check the dates.
  • do a face mask while cleaning out your make up drawer I’ve been loving this one from Tula.
  • YouTube Yoga! Seriously, I did this one 2 x a day for relaxation and general stretching. I’m planning to keep up with it now that I’m out of quarantine.
  • Unsubscribe to all the junk email you get
  • Organize your jewelry box Untangle necklaces, match up earrings and make sure they have backs. Check to see if all clasps work and make a box of items to be repaired. Any watches need new batteries?

SAVE VS. SPLURGE

CHRISTA : This is a cautionary tale about a toaster fail (as well as a save vs. splurge post)! A few years ago we purchased THE MOST EXPENSIVE toaster ever (curious? click here) because it had great reviews, plus it included a touch screen that seemed to have a lot of options – and just seemed like a very cool tech gadget to have! Well, this is one time those Amazon reviews failed me. Don’t waste your money on a fancy toaster. This one did not work well at all – even on the low settings it still over-toasted and browned unevenly. I finally replaced it this week with this super cute retro toaster that’s under $50 that actually does what it should – toasts the bread! And it’s a great “save” version of this pricey “splurge” retro toaster!

AND, HERE’S WHERE WE WALKED

No walk this week…but a whole lot of fun (and maybe more exhausting from the 90+ temps)! We had such a great time at the Coldplay concert with our two new grads! Congrats, Emily and Patrick! Thanks for hanging out with us!

Christa’s concert look: dress (love this dress! highly recommend!) // clear bag; Megan’s concert look: dress (old style from Madewell; similar) // clear bag // bag strap (similar)
