Walk and Talk | 01.20.2023

Welcome to our weekly “walk and talk,” where we bring our weekly walks to you. Our walks are a time to catch up on family life, share online shopping hits and misses, exchange recipes, discuss our newest Netflix binge — all the stuff that friends share with each other. And now we’re sharing with you!

Did you miss a walk? Find all our walk and talks here.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

CHRISTA : I want to tell you all about The Menu (HBO Max), but I don’t want to give away ANYTHING! Just trust me that you’ll like it! It kinda reminded me of Ready or Not and Knives Out if that helps.

MEGAN : In anticipation of the Academy Award nominees being announced next week (January 24th), I’m watching the Golden Globe winners. I started with The Banshees of Inisherin (HBO Max) starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. A story about two best friends, one decides he no longer wants to be friends and consequences ensue for both men. This movie won best screen play, best musical or comedy and Colin Farrell won best actor at the Globes. Maybe I’m too low brow — but I didn’t think this movie was funny. There were funny moments and I laughed but there was an over all tone of melancholy. Pro tip: Turn on the subtitles, the accents are strong.

WHAT WE’RE WEARING

CHRISTA : I need to add more stretching and more steps in 2023, so naturally that meant a new outfit! 😜 Beyond Yoga is a new brand for me and I’m wondering why I waited to try it! The leggings/hoodie combo from are THE softest workout clothes I own! (Pro tip: I originally tried this matching pullover with the leggings. It’s very thick and soft for the winter, but the zipper was uncomfortable and kept poking me so I returned it. I found this matching hoodie instead.)

The Hoka sneakers were the runner-up from my five sneaker try-on last week (last week’s winner was a pair by Skechers). These Hoka’s are very light (unlike many Hoka styles) and have lots of heel cushion and support. And, if you don’t have a timer and stretching strap to help with your flexibility, I highly recommend having both.

SHOP THE LOOK

MEGAN : My family is headed west for a ski trip. I’m not much of a skier anymore (fear of snapping in half at the knees?), but I do love me some apres ski by the fire. Here’s what I’m packing.

SHOP THE LOOK

WHAT WE’RE SHOPPING FOR

MEGAN : Nothing says classic like a camel wrap coat. I’ve been in the market for a few years, but haven’t found the perfect one. Based on recommendations from multiple bloggers I ordered this Mango coat to try. Should be here soon, I’ll let you guys know. Isn’t she pretty?

WHAT WE’RE READING

MEGAN : I just finished The Spare by Prince Harry. WHEW! That was a lot to chew on. TMI even for us Americans? I know, I know there are two sides to every story but it was interesting to hear his version. I recommend listening to it, Harry reads it on Audible. Now I need a friend to read it so we can discuss.

SOMETHING QUICK TO READ

MEGAN : Speaking of Oscars, Variety has a great article with predictions and why.

RANDOM STUFF WE LIKE

CHRISTA : Hang on for some riveting walk and talk content…we’re talking favorite pens again! Are we the only ones with favorite pens??? Is it weird that we have a fav pen? Megan shared her perfect pen a few weeks ago, but I’m declaring these Sharpie S-Gel pens to be perfect. They write so smooth, no smearing. (I’ll give you a few to try, Megan! 😊 ) Which pen do you prefer, or do you have your own favorite?

SOMETHING NEW WE SPOTTED

MEGAN : I received this new to me face wash in my Allure Beauty Box last month. At first I thought I was doing it wrong, (washing my face wrong??) but this stuff literally sloughs the dead skin off your face while you rub it in. It’s almost freaky (creepy?) the way it works or maybe it’s magic, I don’t know. You’ve got to try it, my face really sucks in the product after I use it and looks brighter.

BECAUSE IT’S A NEW YEAR…

CHRISTA : January is a time when we all like to organize, but it’s also a good time to re-stock some basics you regularly use. It just makes life a little easier to never run out. My list includes:

  • greeting cards — have you tried Minted’s greeting cards? Stock up on an assortment of birthday, get well, anniversary and blank cards.
  • gift wrap/bags — stock up at Home Sense, Paper Source and Container Store. And here’s a link to our gift wrap tools/supplies we shared in our holiday checklist.
  • office suppliesnew pens, a pretty notebook for to-do lists, printer ink and paper, and lots of packaging tape (for all my returns!)
  • postage stamps — skip the line and buy them online.
  • extra gift cards — have a few on hand for a quick “care package” to your college student or a last minute gift.

FRIENDS SHARE THE GOOD STUFF

FROM OUR STYLISH FRIENDS : Show us your toiletries bag! A few of you have sent in pics of your new CALPAK toiletry kits. Looks like you’re loving them ladies. And we are impressed with how organized you are.

Have something you love or can’t live without? Did you find a great deal? Well, do tell! Share with us and we’ll pass it along…because friends share the good stuff!

AND, HERE’S WHERE WE WALKED

It’s so darn cold. We’re ready for spring…but it’s only January 20. Sigh. We cheered ourselves up with a Diet Coke at the end of our walk and talk — which gave us more time to talk!

On Tuesday we shared our recent trip to the outlet mall. There were definitely a few hits, but also some misses. Check it out for our shopping tips and see what we liked (and didn’t like).

I look forward to reading your blog every week! I hate to shop, so I love that you both have such great taste and gorgeous fashion suggestions. I’m also getting some of my streaming content and book selections from the 2 of you lately…such helpful reviews. Thanks for sharing the good stuff 🙂
