What We’re Watching
CHRISTA : I was so surprised that we’ve only seen one of the five limited series nominated for an Emmy this year! We watch a lot of TV, so how can that be? We started at the top of the list with Baby Reindeer (Netflix). Whoever did the casting was brilliant! Where did they find the perfect actress to play Martha! We enjoyed this series, and can’t figure out what took us so long to finally watch it! I will warn you that it seemed like a dark comedy in the beginning, but around episode 4, it was just dark and not comedy. Still good, and unbelievable that it was a true story. It was nominated for 11 Emmys, so check it out.
MEGAN : In preparation for the Olympics, I watched Simone Biles Rising (Netflix). Two episodes wasn’t enough. The limited series tracks Simone’s journey back to the Olympics, prioritizing her mental health and her personal life. Very inspiring, she is the G.O.A.T. – and she is crushing it in Paris.
What We’re Wearing
CHRISTA : We’re sharing all about midi skirts this week on the blog. It’s so dang hot, so I opted for linen. This midi slip skirt from J.Crew paired perfectly with things I already owned. Perfect for a girls’ night, brunch, or anywhere else your summer days are taking you. Skirt is a pull on style. It does not come in petites — I’m 5’4” and this length is good for me with a block heel. And, because you’ll need it…my preferred steamer is this one from Amazon, although linen doesn’t stand a chance in this heat!
Shop Christa’s Look
MEGAN : It’s all about midi skirts this week so I’ve rounded up a bunch of midi skirt looks for you. Now is the time to start thinking about your fall shopping list. What are your must haves? Add a midi skirt for the simple reason that it’s versatile and the price is right. Check out the photos below, the same skirt shown dressy or casual and in different seasons. Oh and did I mention – most of them have an elastic waist?

What We’re Shopping For
MEGAN : This week we shared a blog post all about midi-skirts; how to wear them and what to wear them with. I rounded up 8 of my favorite midi skirts from the Nordstrom Sale, 6 of them are under $100. Great price point to “try the trend”. The NSALE ends on August 4th, these skirts will still be available but at a higher price.
CHRISTA : This blouse is giving me Anthro vibes–without the price tag. A great look-for-less from Amazon! I think it will transition nicely into fall. Also available in five other colors.
What We’re Reading in August
CHRISTA : Just released on August 1, Friends with Secrets, a debut novel by Christine Gunderson, is next in my Kindle queue. “In a funny and suspenseful debut, Christine Gunderson explores the myth of the perfect mother, the bonds of female friendship, and the haunting impact of secrets.”
MEGAN : All Fours by Miranda July is having a water cooler moment. If you haven’t heard about this book yet, you will soon. It’s about a women in mid life that is leaning into the changes that are happening to her body and mind. It’s funny, sexy, scary, relatable, deeply personal and touches you in places you do not expect. I don’t want to give too much of the story away; but it’s consuming and intense and un-put-down-able. I’ve been telling everyone to read it so I have someone to unpack my thoughts with.
Random Stuff We Like
CHRISTA : Dolly in gold, silver and bronze! Watch her rendition of “We Are the Champions” to celebrate the Olympics!
MEGAN : It’s zucchini season! TBH I don’t love zucchini but I do love this Zucchini Tart and I’ve been making it on repeat all summer. Super easy, serve it as a side, an app or make it your supper. I’ve been eating the leftovers with a fried egg the next day. Even your non-veggie eaters will be asking for a second slice.
What You Loved TV This Week
Let’s talk about international travel with jazzy his and hers leather passport holders (with a slot for air tags!) in our seamless undies wearing the cutest gold block heeled sandals. These are the trending items for this week on Style Among Friends and we are here for the narrative.
