The Countdown to Christmas is On!

The countdown to Christmas is on! For many, that means the kids are coming home, and the house will be full of family and festive cheer. Or maybe you’ve packed up your bikinis and headed somewhere warm. But for some of us, the holidays might be a little quieter this year — maybe just a small gathering or for the first time, one of your children is off celebrating with a significant other. Whatever your holiday looks like, we hope you find a moment to breathe, savor the peace, and enjoy it for exactly what it is — yours. As we take time to celebrate this season, don’t forget to appreciate the things that truly matter: your health, your friendships, and all the exciting adventures 2024 has brought your way.

And when things get a little chaotic — dishes piling up or the TV blaring — remember, a walk and talk can work wonders. Sometimes, a little fresh air and a few quiet moments are all you need to reset!

In today’s Walk and Talk, we’re sharing…

  • Our favorites from 2024…on the blog
  • The loosely-based story of Quebec’s great maple syrup heist of 2011
  • A new Christmas movie
  • Some sparkle for New Year’s Eve…
  • Or spend New Year’s Eve in pajamas!
  • What Megan wore to the SAF holiday lunch
  • Keeping the group entertained over the holiday break
  • Megan’s favorite face cream is on SALE
  • A bonus TV rec for the history buff

What We’re Watching

MEGAN : The kids picked Carry On (Netflix) the other night and it did not disappoint. If Die Hard is your favorite holiday movie, this is for you! No spoilers — but I’m still trying to get my head around Jason Bateman as the bad guy. Pro tip: college kid and husband approved!

CHRISTA : The Sticky (Prime Video) is a quirky comedy-drama loosely based on the true-story of the theft of more than $18 million in surplus syrup in Quebec in 2011, that landed five people in jail. Episodes are only about 30 minutes making it a quick binge. And Margo Martindale is perfect as Ruth Landry, a fictional syrup farmer. This kinda has the feel of Fargo…but with syrup and Canadians!

What We’re Wearing

CHRISTA : I’m wearing a little sparkle to the annual Style Among Friends office Christmas party (aka Megan and I having lunch at the Nordstrom cafe!). This shirt is by UNTUCKit – my guys love this brand for business casual shirts, and who knew they made cute women’s clothing, too. Blouse runs TTS. I can’t wait to try more of their styles in 2025! The shirt is not linkable below, but I’ve linked the rest of the outfit details for you. My trouser jeans are by WHBM – available in regular (short, regular and long lengths; sizes 00-18) and petites (sizes 00-12). They also run TTS.

MEGAN : My NYDJ vegan leather skirt was perfect for our Style Among Friends holiday lunch, at Nordstrom of course! After all, the mall is technically our office. This skirt has been my holiday hero, worn here with a sweater and boots, she’s also cute with a turtleneck and tights. This a-line skirt is a timeless cut, can be dressed up or down and will never go out of style. Pro-tip: sizing – she runs a smidge big, if between sizes go with your smaller size.

What We’re Shopping For

MEGAN : I shared this in our “favorite things from 2024” post. I just ordered a replacement for my first jar and guess what, it’s on sale! $50 is a steal for this face cream, lasted about three months and my skin is glowing! Walk and talk to Sephora and pick one up!

CHRISTA : There’s nothing like a New Year’s Eve party in pajamas!!! Ring in 2025 in comfort! Video games (because everyone falls asleep if we watch movies!), disco ball cocktails and favorite comfy pajamas! Black pajamas add a little elegance to the evening, don’t you think?!

Random Stuff We Like

MEGAN : My college son suggested I share this TV recommendation with you. If you have a history buff in your house Grant (Amazon Prime) is a fantastic three part mini-series. “Grant tells the unbelievable and quintessentially American story of a humble man who overcomes incredible obstacles, rises to the highest ranks of power and saves the nation.” Based on the 2017 non-fiction book by Ron Chernow.

CHRISTA : If you’re looking for a new board game for the group to play during the holiday break or on New Year’s Eve, here are three recommendations that are sure to be a hit. Click the image for the link.

CHRISTA : Something extra, just for fun! Enjoy this reimagined video of what it must have been like behind the scenes of Elton John’s Step Into Christmas back in 1973…with longtime Elton fan Cara Delevingne stepping in as Elton!
