What We’re Watching This Week
MEGAN : Do you love Ruth Ware’s mystery novels as much as me? I just watched the movie adaptation of her book, The Woman in Cabin 10. It was good, but you know how it is…when you’ve read the book first the movie doesn’t always live up. I watched it with a friend (who hadn’t read the book) and she loved it. Add it to you list if you like a good mystery. Kiera Knightley was great as Laura Blacklock.
CHRISTA : Sure, the premise might not be that original (hello, Con Air!), but The Last Frontier is still a solid watch if you’re in the mood for something new. There’s something about a show being set in Alaska, with the long nights and harsh temperatures, that naturally cranks up the suspense. The story kicks off when a plane full of dangerous federal prisoners crashes in the remote wilderness. Soon, it becomes a deadly showdown between law enforcement, a ruthless criminal being secretly transported by the CIA, and the frozen Alaskan wild.

CHRISTA : Just a few errands planned…but top of the list is getting my annual mammogram! Don’t put it off ladies, go get ’em checked! My OOTD was pretty practical/comfortable for working from home and running errands. It would also be a good travel ‘fit or OOTD for my next Disney trip.
Style tip: My vest and sweater are older, so I linked similar. Joggers are new and fit TTS. I wear a 6-8, and these are a M.

MEGAN : It’s been a week, a sick kid and a sick dog. Sometimes the best you can do is sweats. But I did get new walking shoes and they’re cute. So there’s that. Some days it’s the small wins.
Fit tip: Brooks Glycerin are my favorite walking shoe. Run true to size.

What We’re Loving: Everyday Favorites Worth Sharing
MEGAN : A few years ago I picked up this pumpkin dutch oven at Walmart for under $40. Made by the Pioneer Woman, the pot is cast iron and adds just the right festive touch to my kitchen from September through Thanksgiving. I’ve made a lot of soups and chilis in this pot over the years and she’s a good one! If you like decorations that are functional AND cute, this pumpkin dutch oven is for you.

CHRISTA : Such a fun little gift idea or stocking stuffer – it’s a set of 50 scratch off cards with lots of fun things to do in a specific state or city. Choose your activity based on the icons for distance, activity level, etc. Then scratch off for a QR code to scan for details about the activity or destination. Great gift idea for your adult children to explore where they live, especially if they live away from home now. Would also be perfect to take on vacation to explore a new city. Or an easy way to plan some empty nester date nights!
I’ve linked a few below, but visit Amazon for a full selection of cities and states.

Mini Style Fix: Chocolate Brown for Women Over 50
The Mini Style Fix is like your stylish bestie whispering, “Wear this, you’ll look fabulous.” These bite-sized tips are fast, fun, and totally doable.
Chocolate brown is a rich, versatile color that can feel elegant, cozy, or modern depending on how you style it. Here are some easy ways to add it to your closet this fall, all under $100.
MEGAN : Chocolate brown is everywhere this season. It’s a natural choice for fall and the perfect alternative for those of us that find black too harsh with our skin tone. Adding in one or two “trend” pieces each season keeps our wardrobes current. You don’t have to go out and buy all new pieces each season, just add an item or two as you go and you will always be in style.
Style Tip: If you find brown too harsh near your face, try adding in a scarf with other bright colors. Shoes and handbags are also a great way to add a pop of chocolate to your closet.

CHRISTA : Don’t let dark colors weigh you down! Chocolate brown is rich and beautiful, but wearing only dark shades can feel heavy as we age. Lighten things up to keep your wardrobe fresh and flattering. Pair a chocolate brown sweater with ecru denim, layer a soft cream scarf with a chocolate brown coat, or add a pop of color with your shoes to instantly refresh your look. Mixing in lighter tones not only brightens your outfit but also adds a modern, effortless touch that keeps your style feeling current at any age. Shop my under $100 finds here.
Style tip: Gold jewelry is especially flattering with chocolate brown!

Just for Fun: Smart Finds & Random Little Joys
CHRISTA : The holidays sneak up fast, don’t they? Get a head start on easy entertaining with this clever serving platter. With nine little compartments, all you need are nine tasty finds from Trader Joe’s (or wherever you shop). Done and done.
I love using mine to show off my favorite Toscano cheeses at TJ’s (if you haven’t tried the cinnamon Toscano cheese for fall, you must, it’s so good). Add in some crackers, nuts, olives, almonds, and a little chocolate, and you’ve got a crowd-pleasing board with zero stress. It’s the only serving platter you need!

MEGAN : One of my favorite things to make in the pumpkin dutch oven (as seen above) is a stove top simmer pot. Southern Living rounded up a few of their favorite recipes here. If you like it when your house smells cozy, sweet and fall-ish try making a simmer pot or stove top potpourri. Here is my favorite combo:
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 star anise
- splash of vanilla
- sliced apple or sliced orange (or just the orange peel if you need a snack!)
- 2 sprigs of rosemary
- a palmful of cloves
Fill your pot 3/4 full with water, add the spices/fruit and bring to a boil. Reduce to the lowest setting and let it simmer all day (continue to add water as the level drops). Your house will smell DIVINE!
