Welcome to the Walk and Talk! Each week, we chat about our favorite shows and books, recent shopping finds (including Amazon gems), and all the fun stuff friends love to share. We’re excited to share it with you! #friendssharethegoodstuff

Walk and Talk with Us This Week

Did someone flip the autumn switch? Deep breath, do you smell the pumpkin spice in the air, too? Now that the kids are back at school and the temperatures are dropping, it’s time to take stock of what you did and didn’t wear this summer. Pick a drawer or a section of your closet and pull out anything that you didn’t wear. Donate or sell it, your future self will thank you. We have a whole post on what to do when you’ve cleaned out your closet here. Do one drawer a day so it doesn’t feel so overwhelming (and bonus, you don’t trash your whole room).

Depending on where you live it might feel like summer even though the calendar tells us differently. Take this as your sign to put away the bright prints and pastel colors. Pull out your neutrals and fall-ish colored items that are still light weight. Pair a thin white button down with linen slacks or light jeans. A tee with khakis or a jean skirt. Layers are key right now as it feels like fall in the morning but the temperatures soar in the afternoon.

And remember that the white after Labor Day rule is old news. Keep wearing your white jeans, heck we’re still wearing our flip flops.

In today’s Walk and Talk, we’re sharing…

  • Our September book picks
  • The most luxurious beach towel
  • Catching up on an Emmy nominated show with five seasons to binge
  • Book of the summer – yay or nay?
  • A perfect vacation dress
  • Eddie Vedder and Willie Nelson’s son will blow you away
  • Need a tasty care package idea for your student?

Don’t miss any of the good stuff we’re sharing. You can find last week’s Walk and Talk HERE.

ICYMI…What’s On the Blog

It’s the Best of August! Don’t miss our roundup of the top items each month, now coming to you right in your inbox. It’s the top products from the last month, plus some new finds for subscribers only. Subscribe today!

This is the best time of year to gather your “college mom” friends and host a party. A “Care Package Party” is super easy to organize, and when you’re done, you have a wonderful surprise for your student. Plus, it’s a great time to check-in to see how everyone is doing now that the kids are back on campus…and sip wine together.

A Quick Correction…

In Tuesday’s “best of” email, the link for the travel sling bag was incorrect. It linked to an Ann Taylor cardigan (also perfect for travel!). Here’s the link to the bag on Anthropologie.

What We’re Watching

MEGAN : The Last Movie Stars (HBO Max and Prime) is a six part docu-mini-series about Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman, directed by Ethan Hawke. This series dives into the lives of Woodward and Newman, focusing on their marriage which spanned over 50 years. Six children from two marriages, alcoholism, two amazing careers and infidelity account for the love affair these two shared. Really interesting, especially if you are a fan of movies/theater in the 50s and 60s. (ie Tennessee Williams/Elia Kazan).

CHRISTA : Fargo Season 5 is nominated for 15 Emmys this year, including a nomination for Best Limited Series (fourth time nominated for that category). How have I missed this one? I’m starting at season 1, which premiered in 2014 starring Billy Bob Thornton. Each season can be viewed independent of the others, and every season brings its own all-star cast. If you’ve been watching, which season is your favorite?

What We’re Wearing

CHRISTA : When you have one favorite pair of jeans plus a couple of cute tops you love, it’s easy to get dressed in a snap! You don’t need a closet overflowing with clothes–you probably don’t wear them all anyway (I know I don’t!!). These jeans are my go to right now–they work with any shoe height so it makes getting dressed easy!

MEGAN : I’m holding on to summer one flip flop at a time. Seriously, here in Virginia LDW ended and it was like a switch flipped. Lows in the 50s highs in the 70s. Kinda perfect. I’m transitioning to fall with darker colors and longer layers, but still wearing my favorite flip flops!

What We’re Shopping For

MEGAN : Over Labor Day weekend I took stock of my beach towels and it’s time for a refresh. One of my friends had THE MOST LUXURIOUS beach towel I’ve ever seen. The fabric, the pattern, the feel — she’s a real beauty. I found them on sale at Bloomies and ordered a few. These are not cheap, like I won’t be letting the kids take them to friend’s houses, but a few for the pool in Easton will be perfect. Pro tip: One of these luxury beach towels would be a fabulous birthday gift for a special friend.

CHRISTA : It’s September and hubby and I are just week’s away from the vacation of a lifetime. There has been a lot of shopping in our house for vacation “essentials,” including this dress by Nic+Zoe (from Blooomingdales)! It comes in regular and petite sizes. I love how it could work for day with some cute flats, or for night with some heels. And if it’s chilly, just add a white cardigan.

What We’re Reading in September

CHRISTA : I’m currently reading Not What She Seems by Yasmin Angoe, released on August 1. It’s just the right mix of plot twists and turns, family drama, and skeletons in the closet. When Jac returns to her hometown, lie after lie is revealed. Read and uncover the truth alongside her. Enjoy!

MEGAN : All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker is getting a lot of hype. Touted as the “book of summer” by the Washington Post it’s a love story slash thriller that is keeping me turning the pages. Just when you think you know what’s happening, you don’t. I’m not finished yet, but I can tell you this book is really well written. I can’t wait to get to the end! Book hang over expected.

Random Stuff We Like

MEGAN : This version of “Just Breathe“, Eddie Vedder and Lukas Nelson (Willie’s son) is a gift. Grab your coffee, sit back and enjoy.

CHRISTA : Treat to your favorite student with a care package! Here are a few favorite places to order sweet treats — all tested (and approved) by my family.

  • Baked by Melissa – tasty little bite sized cupcakes perfect for sharing with the roommates.
  • [ma-kah-rohn] – try an assortment, or pick from fun flavors like Lucky Charms, KitKat, and Orange Creamsicle!
  • Cookies for Kids’ Cancer – their cookies are delicious, and because they are a nonprofit, your purchase is tax deductible.

What You Loved This Week

The Walk and Talk trending items from last week are SUPER CUTE together. Just add flip flops, sneakers and a jean jacket. Christa’s Amazon dress comes in cream/navy too! We love the simple clear bag from Target ($15) and the purse light, although unnecessary in the clear bag — is a MUST in any bottomless tote.
