Walk and Talk with Us This Week
Staying connected with friends in your 50s can be unexpectedly challenging. Is anyone else feeling this, too? With changing careers, aging parents, and/or increased travel, it’s more challenging to find time for those important catch-ups. Physical distance can also be a factor, as friends relocate for new opportunities or family reasons. Balancing these factors requires a deliberate effort, carving out time from a busy schedule to maintain these valuable relationships.
To keep friendships thriving, a proactive approach and a bit of creativity are essential.
- Start by prioritizing regular communication—sending a quick text to check in might lead to plans for a catch-up over wine or a quick lunch.
- Plan monthly (or bi-monthly) get togethers–when something is scheduled regularly (like the 3rd Wednesday every month), it’s much easier to keep it on your calendar and plan around it.
- Be understanding and flexible, acknowledging that everyone has their own commitments and challenges right now.
- Showing up for friends during significant life events, whether joyous or challenging, strengthens the bond. Check out this article from NPR, about how a group of women came together when their friend’s husband passed away.
Consistency and thoughtfulness will keep these relationships vibrant and resilient, even amid life’s busyness. And remember, the best (distraction-free) time to catch up with a friend is a good old fashioned walk and talk!

ICYMI…What’s On the Blog
Go Team Fashion! Whether you’re heading to campus for Parents’ Weekend or tailgating with friends, we’ve got the look for you. We’re sharing tips on how to layer, what to wear for a campus tour, the best totes for tailgating, and the comfiest sneakers for a long (fun!) day. We’ve got something for every mom heading to campus this fall.
Ready for some fall fashion? Don’t miss our fall wishlists, filled with the colors and styles we’re eyeing up for the new season. Spoiler alert: wide leg pants/denim made both our lists!
What We’re Watching
MEGAN : Was anyone else obsessed with Laci Peterson (Netflix) like me? A pregnant woman that goes missing on Christmas Eve? It was terrifying in 2002 and now. The whole country watched as her family searched for her. Turns out (spoiler alert) the husband did it.
CHRISTA : Bad Monkey (Apple TV+) is classic Vince Vaugh at his best. Entertaining to watch, but honestly Vince Vaughn’s motor mouth can be a bit much at times. Regardless, I think this is one you’ll enjoy. It has high critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, new episodes air on Wednesdays.
What We’re Wearing
CHRISTA : Amazon does it again with another must-have dress. Comfort meets style in the best way! And in case you missed it, I’m including the other Amazon dress I shared a few weeks ago. Both are very packable options for an upcoming trip. Also good just for running errands around town–you never know who you’ll run into, might as well look cute!
Shop Christa’s Looks
MEGAN : Summer holiday weekends have me all red, white and blue. The dress is from the GAP and currently on sale for $30. It’s comfortable, has pockets and isn’t too wrinkly if you get it out of the dryer right away. Would be the perfect fall transition dress with a lady sweater jacket and loafers.

What We’re Shopping For
MEGAN : My SIL texted me from the mothership, aka the Liberty of London store, IN LONDON. She found the cutest bags in the perfect Liberty print. A new clutch has been on my list for fall. A season-less bag that holds **just the essentials** but also serves as an organizer in my larger everyday tote. She is the perfect evening OR daytime clutch. I ordered the color way on sale (always a good shopper!) and the bag arrived from London in less than a week. You’ll be seeing a lot of her this fall and winter and spring and what the heck, right now!
CHRISTA : Have you seen the Weekend Collection from Ann Taylor? It’s polished pieces that are easy to style and made for weekend comfort. It includes everything from sweaters and coats to denim and accessories. I shared this blouse in my “fall wishlist” last week and it’s one of my favorite new purchases. The sleeves are fuller, but definitely not too big. It’ll pair nicely with everything from a denim skirt to white jeans to olive pants.
Christa’s Recommendations
What We Found on Amazon
CHRISTA : Super cute necklace…only $12.99! Love the 16″ length, with 2″ extender–perfect with your favorite blouse. Would be a fun gift, too! (Or maybe a stocking stuffer…too soon to think about that?)
MEGAN : Another beach read for your end of summer reading pleasure. I whipped through this one with the sand in my toes. Not going to win the Pulitzer but this is a great vaca read. Easy breezy.
Random Stuff We Like
MEGAN : My mom and I made fig jam this week and it’s so yummy I had to share the recipe with you. Seriously easy, three ingredients and it took one hour start to finish. Check out the recipe here.

What You Loved This Week
You guys pick the best outfits! The three best sellers from last week make a really cute fall transition look. The cashmere tee from JCrew is such a great fall/spring basic. We both have it. Christa’s green pants are an updated version of the army green pants we all loved last year. The Fair Isle sweater stands alone, as a statement. How cute would it be with denim on denim? You guys voted on Megan’s stories and the Pink Fair Isle WON!
