Walk and Talk | 08.23.2024

Welcome to the Walk and Talk! Each week, we chat about our favorite shows and books, recent shopping finds (including Amazon gems), and all the fun stuff friends love to share. We’re excited to share it with you! #friendssharethegoodstuff

Don’t miss any of the good stuff we’re sharing! Last week’s walk and talk is HERE.

Walk and Talk with Us This Week

One of the best parts of summer is when the kids are home for family dinners. There is something about sitting around the table and discussing the highs and lows of the week that feels good. As the kids get older and busier (or move away!) these dinners are few and far between, making them that much more meaningful.

Now that we are sending kids back to college, why not riff on that idea and have an empty nest couple over for “family dinner.” It could be Sunday or really any day; grill out while the weather’s warm or if cooking isn’t your thing make a salad and shred a rotisserie chicken on it. What a treat to catch up with friends and hear about their highs and lows from the week. Ever heard the phrase “Friends that are family”? Trust me, a couple who’s nest is freshly empty is looking for something to do and they will be thrilled to come over for drinks or dinner.

Call a friend, take a walk and invite them over for “family dinner.”

In today’s Walk and Talk, we’re sharing…

  • Emily in Paris is back for season 4
  • A new thriller with Natalie Portman on Apple TV+
  • The importance of always wearing your Apple Watch
  • Cute sandals that come in a wide width
  • Embroidered LBD – 40% off
  • Italian perfume with an Amazon price tag
  • A just-the-right-weight sweater to kick off sweater season
  • The best cookbook EVER

ICYMI…What’s On the Blog

Fall is in our inboxes–our favorite retailers are sharing their “pre-fall” collections and there are so many great things to choose from. But where should to start? Let us help! We’re sharing our fall wishlists with you, just a few things we have our eye on for simple wardrobe updates to keep our looks feeling fresh for the new season.

What We’re Watching

MEGAN : Emily in Paris (Netflix) is BACK! Well the first five episodes are, the second half of the season drops on September 12th. I love this show, it’s kinda soapy but always happy. And the wardrobes/costumes are AMAZING. Do people really dress like that? The whole show is visual eye candy. Counting down til September 12.

CHRISTA : I’m three episodes into Lady in the Lake (Apple TV+), a limited series based on Laura Lippman’s novel. I am definitely enjoying the mystery, but my husband thought it was a little slow. It’s a thriller with a clever twist, set against the backdrop of a recreated 1960s Baltimore. The show’s set design, costumes and performances, particularly from Natalie Portman, elevate this beyond a typical mystery.

What We’re Wearing

CHRISTA : Pants from LOFT, new for fall. I paired them with a blouse I already owned that apparently needed a good steaming (from Avara). These pants are a great wear now/wear later option. This fall, I can swap the blouse for a sweater and the sandals for flats.

MEGAN : I’ve been wearing these Vince pants (that I made into shorts) all summer. They are comfortable and the modern length is fresh. Feels like a skirt! Of course I paired it with my new GAP vest, I have been wearing it non stop as we head into fall.

What We’re Shopping For

MEGAN : Summer’s almost over, but sandal season isn’t! I think I found the “perfect” sandal. Low heel, neutral color and they come in WIDE! Wear with shorts, dresses, long linen pants and then with jeans as the temps drop.

CHRISTA : We’re going on vacation in September and this dress from Ann Taylor is definitely coming with me. It’s so flattering. And my favorite part is the open back…but not too open because it’s still bra friendly. The linen fabric and beautiful embroidery are just right for our warm weather destination. (And, of course I’ll pair it with my clear SCHUTZ block heel sandals. They’re the only sandal you need on vacation!) Don’t wait on this one…it’s currently 40% off, too.

What We Found on Amazon

CHRISTA : Get a jump start on fall with this super cute sweater. It’s just $32.99, plus it’s 40% off. The fit is slightly oversized, making it the perfect casual and comfy piece with jeans for when temps start to cool. And it’s not too heavy making it a great early fall find. Comes in six colors.

MEGAN : Many years ago I was in Bellagio, Italy and went into a store called L’Erbolario. The shop makes and sells organic and natural skincare, beauty and home products in Italy. I fell in love with a perfume called Te & Cedro (Tea and Citrus). Guess what? I found almost EVERYTHING from the shop on Amazon. I am bathing in the perfume that is divine. Seriously it’s so good. If you are looking for a little Italian treat, I highly recommend all of L’Erbolario’s products.

Random Stuff We Like

MEGAN : I love to cook, but I don’t love hard recipes. Caroline Chambers’ cook book What to Cook When You Don’t Feel Like Cooking came out last week and it’s just as awesome as I knew it would be. I’ve followed Caro on IG for a few years and I’m a paid subscriber to her Substack (highly recommend if you like getting weekly recipes sent to you – breaks down to about a $1 per). Caro’s cookbook is organized by how long the recipes take and I love that. Her recipes are easy to follow, provide lots of substitutions, are whole food delicious and nutritious. I’ve made dozens of Caro’s recipes over the years and haven’t had one disappoint me yet.

CHRISTA : Here’s a reminder to wear your Apple Watch all the time. I was home alone and had a severe fall at night recently — ended up with 11 staples in my head. Luckily, I could call 911 myself, but it would have been better if I had been wearing my Apple Watch, which has fall detection. If the watch detects a fall, it will alert you and, if necessary, call 911. I usually wear mine all day and charge it at night, but now I’ll charge it while at the computer so I can wear it to bed too. I’ve also got a charging stand for my AirPods, Watch, and iPhone, and an elastic band for more comfort while sleeping.

What You Loved This Week

We love ’em and so do you. Christa’s striped dress is a HUGE HIT. She comes in lots of colors and the best part, pockets! This olive slip skirt checks all the boxes, under $30 and in the “it” olive color for fall. Wear it with a cashmere tee or a denim shirt and you are ready. LOFT is right on the mark with these green pants. The pocket and button detailing are super cute. Last but not least these Laura Ashley sheets from Amazon are super cute and they keep getting softer with every wash.
