Walk and Talk with Us This Week
It’s Walk and Talk Friday, let’s go! Here at Style Among Friends we talk a lot about what mid-life / empty nest / over 50 LOOKS like. How to dress, what lotions and potions we are using, what trips we’re taking. But we don’t often talk about what being in our mid-life FEELS like. The hole in your heart when your child leaves for college, the heart filling joy when everyone is together on vacation, the weirdness of cooking for two or the overwhelming feelings of going back to work. There are lots of big feels in our 50s and we’ve all got ’em. Sometimes focusing on the LOOK is a positive distraction from the FEEL. You are not alone, we all have same feelings as we transition into the different phases of our our lives.
This week call a friend, go for a walk, and talk about the look AND the feel.
In today’s Walk and Talk, we’re sharing…
- TV shows for every mood…this week, try a whodunit or “historical” piece!
- The vest accessory on Megan’s fall wish list
- Can you smell the pumpkin spice? We have fall decor!
- What’s in your veggie tray?
- A tiny gadget you need for travel
- What’s in the box?
- Save money shopping on-line!
ICYMI…What’s On the Blog
Visit the blog for a recap of everything from July — what we wore, what we shopped for and what the favorite purchases were for the last month.
Don’t miss our style post all about midi skirts. We think they’re a great wardrobe staple, and we have tips to style them in every season.
What We’re Watching
MEGAN : Presumed Innocent (Apple TV) is a limited series starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Based on the Scott Turow’s first novel, released in 1987 and based on the movie (1990) starring Harrison Ford. I read the book, saw the movie and was still captivated by the Apple series. Gyllenhaal plays Rusty (is married and a father of two), a Chicago prosecuting attorney who’s mistress / coworker is brutally murdered. Rusty charged with her murder and goes on trial. It’s the ultimate who dunnit.
CHRISTA : Another “historical” show…The Serpent Queen (STARZ). Not historically accurate, but still entertaining! This is loosely based on the story of France’s Catherine de’ Medici, an immigrant from Italy, who becomes a queen to be reckoned with. I enjoyed the storytelling style of the show and the performances by both actresses portraying Catherine. Looking forward to starting season 2! And if you love the costumes in these types of shows, you’ll love the dramatic dresses and big sleeves in Catherine’s court! (The series is based on the 2004 nonfiction book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda.)
What We’re Wearing
CHRISTA : This is the ultimate one-and-done dress, and it’s a steal at under $30 on Amazon! It’s adorable with pockets and made from a nice, thick fabric. I’m wearing the “khaki stripe,” which fits true to size and comes in nine other colors, too.

MEGAN : My Pinterest board is full of “vest” looks. I finally found one worth sharing. This linen blend vest is from the Gap. On sale (it seems like they are having a sale every other week), it comes in petite and regular. The perfect pick me up for my late summer wardrobe. And, shout out to the real star of this photo, my husband’s AMAZING vegetable garden.

What We’re Shopping For
MEGAN : My youngest son is heading back to college in a few weeks. He’s moving into a 1970s townhouse. This is my latest Amazon order to set him up for success at school.

CHRISTA : Easton friends, this one’s for you! Fall is right around the corner. Beat the heat with a little indoor online shopping at Target. Make your home feel like a cozy fall day with just a few little touches sprinkled about. Try some fall throw pillows, a decorative bowl with acorn filler, some faux fall foliage, or a coffee table tray filled with pumpkins and candles.

What We Found on Amazon
CHRISTA : I love how small the Clutch portable charger is. (Thanks, Terry, for the recommendation.) It’s small enough to easily slip into a purse pocket, ready for any charging emergency. Perfect for travel, concerts, or just any day when your phone doesn’t charge overnight like you thought it did! Click here for the iPhone 15 & Android USB-C charging device. Click here for iPhone 14 (and older) device.
MEGAN : This veggie tray was recommended by our girlfriends at My Sister Made Me Buy It. (They are a great follow on IG!) I have found that keeping this tray in the fridge filled with cut and cleaned veggies is the best way to stay clear of the chip bag. No excuses! It’s also a great hostess gift. If you’re going to a cookout or to a friends house for the weekend, bring this filled with yummy veggies and leave the tray as your hostess gift. Under $25.
Random Stuff We Like
MEGAN : What’s in the random brown box that the athletes are holding on the podium? I had to google it, being a lookie lou and all. Don’t the athletes normally get flowers with their medal? Or a crown of olive leaves? Nope. Arguably cooler, it’s the official Paris Olympic poster customized for the athletes. Do not fear, you too can have a poster, check it out here.
CHRISTA : Get rewarded for your shopping with Honey! I have the Honey browser extension enabled on my computer, so when I checkout, Honey can search for valid coupon codes and get me the best deal. Install it once and then let Honey do the work every time you shop. I didn’t realize I was also accumulating cash back points with Honey to redeem for cash via PayPal–little did I know I had almost $300 sitting there ready to redeem! Go to the Honey website to sign up and enable the browser extension. You’ll not only save at checkout, but you’ll get cash back on your shopping…and in girl math, that’s free stuff!

Yay Julie! Glad you are getting good use out of the amazing Amazon phone strap. Under $12, it’s the perfect investment for when you need to be hands free. We love it, too! Enjoy the Olympics. Go USA!
