What We’re Watching This Week
MEGAN : My family considers Happy Gilmore a classic, so when Happy Gilmore 2 released on Netflix last week, we were ready. Adam Sandler is a funny guy, but I’m not sure Happy Gilmore 2 will have the same cult status as “1”. The cameos in “2”, from the golf community to movie stars make it worth the watch, the story could have been beefed up a little. Perfect summer family movie night.
CHRISTA : Michael B. Jordan delivers a standout dual performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack in Sinners (Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV+), a supernatural horror set in 1932 Mississippi. As the brothers open a juke joint, a sinister vampire presence begins to consume their community. But this film is more than just a vampire tale; it weaves in symbolism, history, and some amazing music.
What We’re Wearing: Outfit Ideas for Women Over 50
CHRISTA : These hot days call for flowy, light tops. This one by Evereve is a perfect pop of pink for a hot summer day! Nothing difficult about this outfit–it’s my uniform of kick flare ankle denim + a colorful top. Hey, when something works, you should stick with it, right! I love this with the white denim, but I also like how they styled it on the Evereve site (perfect beach vacay look).
Fit tip: This blouse s a relaxed fit, but runs TTS.

MEGAN : I’m back on the “one and done” train for everyday summer outfits. As a long time Frank and Eileen fan, I was excited to try the “Lauren” polo dress. Mine is neon in the color “strawberry”. Unfortunately I can’t find it available in “strawberry” anywhere – but Nordstrom has it in stock in a bunch of colors and so does the Frank and Eileen sight. Pro tip: The white version of this dress is still available in the NSale – ends Sunday 8/3!
Fit tip: The Lauren dress is not super long. I’m 5’1 and it hits the top of my knee. My friend, Lynne is 5’9 and has the same dress and hers hits like the models in the pics below. If you are worried about the length, don’t put it in the dryer.

What We’re Loving: Everyday Favorites Worth Sharing
MEGAN : I recently ordered a new pair of readers, exactly like my current pair – but stronger. It happens. I’m a long time lover of the Eyebobs “Biff” readers. They come in a variety of sizes, I have a small face and the “narrow” is perfect for me. A little pricier than drug store readers (don’t get me wrong, I have those too!), but these look elegant on. And they come with a handy hard sided case.

CHRISTA : I do not need another water bottle… I do not need another water bottle… okay, I totally need another water bottle! How stinkin’ cute is this Owala water bottle from Urban Outfitters?! Instant add to cart! p.s. Are you staying hydrated? Remember, aim for half your body weight in ounces per day. Add more if you’re sweating, flying, or drinking caffeine.
Gift tip: This would be a great gift, packaged with Megan’s fabulous find so it’ll fit in a cup holder.

What We’re Reading in August

CHRISTA : Who is the Liar was just released today, but I downloaded an early copy from Amazon First Reads (don’t forget, if you’re a Prime member you could be getting free Kindle books!). Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down! From the publisher: “In the tradition of Shirley Jackson and Alice Sebold, Who Is the Liar is the story of two sisters: the older, Ruby, who takes justice into her own hands, and the younger, Topaz, who is forced to make the hardest choice of her life. Set in the 1980s, this brilliantly plotted novel explores sisterhood, innocence, and just how far we’ll go to protect the ones we love. After reading this, I’ll never look at my basement the same way again.“
MEGAN : My book club selected Whistling Past the Graveyard for our August read. It has great reviews (it’s not a new book – came out in 2013). The book is set in Mississippi in 1963. The story is about a little girl that runs away from home. I love a coming of age story so I’m looking forward to sitting by the pool and reading.
Mini Style Fix: Camel-Colored Shoes Go with Everything
The Mini Style Fix is like your stylish bestie whispering, “Wear this, you’ll look fabulous”—these bite-sized tips are fast, fun, and totally doable.
Camel-colored shoes are a classic color that instantly elevates an outfit—they’re the effortless upgrade your closet’s been waiting for.
MEGAN : There is one color that elevates any outfit and it’s camel. Bonus points for camel accessories in suede. These camel suede slides were the number one item on my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale wish list and I love them. They are my ideal transition shoe from summer to fall or winter to spring. This pair is part of the NSale, under $100 through Sunday, August 3rd.
Style Tip: These camel suede slides will be perfect with white pants as we transition into fall. I also love them with dark denim. If your pants are longer, when the toes peek out they look a little like cowboy boots. This year my over 50 feet having been loving lower heels, but not totally flat. If your feet are feeling their age, this is a great shoe to update your fall wardrobe, elevating your look and keeping on trend without breaking the bank.

More Camel-Colored Shoes Megan Loves
CHRISTA : Another NSale find for me, these Franco Sarto flats are just what I was looking for as we head into fall. (And if we haven’t convinced you to grab a pair of camel-colored shoes, these come in six other colors!) I love the boxier toe for extra comfort. If you prefer a heel, I also found this 2 1/2″ block heel–also comfortable, and perfect paired with your favorite wide leg denim.
Style tip: Let your shoes do the talking—pair loafers, flats, or heels with ankle-grazing pants for a polished look that puts your footwear front and center (and gives your legs a little extra length). If you’ve been here a while, you already know I’m a fan of an ankle-length kick flare. It’s my go-to shape—flattering, easy to wear, and just a little bit fun. Two favorites: these jeans by Kut From The Kloth and these black pants from J.Crew Factory. And it’s not just me—Who What Wear says kick flares are officially back on trend.
