Walk and Talk…It’s Christmas in July!

weekly walk and talk

Friends Share the Good Stuff

It’s Christmas in July for the Walk and Talk! 🎅🏻🎄This week, we’re decking the halls and giving the Walk and Talk a little holiday makeover. Your future self will thank you for getting a head start on the holiday season. Many of our finds are part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, too–so save money now, save time later!

Ho ho ho! We’re glad you’re here!

Here’s a little holiday music for you while you’re enjoying this week’s Walk and Talk! Just press play…

What We’re Watching 🎄

MEGAN : Do you have a comfort movie? One you always watch when you’re sick or sad? The Holiday is mine (well, any Nancy Meyers movie tbh). The NM aesthetic, the story, the characters — the whole thing is like a hug from a friend. The Holiday came out in 2006 but somehow always feels current.

CHRISTA : If you missed it last December, Carry-On (Netflix) would make a super fun pick for a “Christmas in July” movie night! Don’t worry—it’s not overly festive, just the right touch. It’s packed with action and suspense, with Taron Egerton playing a TSA agent who gets blackmailed into letting a suspicious package through security. Definitely more thrills than tinsel—perfect for a summer movie night!

What We’re Wearing 🎅🏻

CHRISTA : Black pants totally saved the day for me last holiday season—I swear, they showed up to every party with either a festive sweater, a sparkly blouse, or some fun heels! But guess what? They’re not just for winter. I’m bringing mine into summer and styling them with a summery blouse and my go-to sandals—perfect for a date night, a patio cocktail party, or dinner with the girls. My black pants are from JCrew Factory, but the NSale has a lot of great options, too.

Style tip: When you make your favorite pieces work year-round, you get the most out of your wardrobe and your budget! Your black pants make a great foundation in summer when you lighten up the rest of your look with summer prints (like my white floral blouse) and summer textures (like my raffia clutch).

MEGAN : It has been too hot for clothes lately, but in the interest of NOT getting arrested, this is what I wore to book club this week. Adding this vest as a third piece dressed up a my shorts and tee shirt. Just one little add on and you’ve got yourself an outfit. The vest is going to be a big player this fall – loads of them in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – and that’s usually a trend predictor. Pick one of these up at a friendly price point and see if the trend works for you.

What We’re Loving (and Think You Might Too!) 🎄

MEGAN : Just purchased my 5th pair of ON Cloud sneakers during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I wear them every day – for dog walks, running errands, walks with friends. I take my regular size and wear them with or without socks. My favorite feature is the no tie laces. Being able to slip them on and run out the door is my favorite. I’ve had the waterproof style, the “Coast” style (you can collapse the heal and make them mules) and the regular style (pictured here). I gave my parents each a pair a few years ago for Christmas and they have since bought another pair. They are that good.

Mini Style Fix: NSale Wear Now/Wear Later 🎅🏻

The Mini Style Fix is like your stylish bestie whispering, “Wear this, you’ll look fabulous”—these bite-sized posts are fast, fun, and totally doable.

Let’s make the most of our wardrobe budget by shopping smart! This week, we’re hitting up the Nordstrom Sale for something we can wear now and bring back again for the holiday season.

CHRISTA : OK, you’re probably not wearing this cashmere tee (from the NSale) NOW, but you’ll be so glad you have it on the first chilly day when you start switching your clothes from summer to fall. And when it gets even colder, this is a perfect layering piece under your favorite jacket, maybe a leather jacket. I’m sharing some styling inspo below to take you from casual to holidays. Yes, this sweater is a splurge, but there are so many ways to wear it. And I think these short sleeve sweaters will be big this fall–there were many of them in the NSale which is usually a sign of a fall trend!

Style tip: When holidays arrive, pair your sweater with a simple slip skirt for a very sophisticated (and slimming) column of color. This sequin skirt from Mango – 50% off – is only $40! *And, of course, this sweater also works with your black pants!

MEGAN : There’s nothing I love more than a “wear now/wear later” style fix. As a woman over 50, I try to purchase items that can be worn during two or more seasons. A vest in versatile crepe material looks modern and current with shorts, white jeans, a linen slip skirt now, and this fall and winter it will jazz up your black pants, dark denim jeans or black slip skirt. You will find yourself reaching for this vest all the time. Bonus: she’s available in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for under $60!

Style tip: A vest doubles as a top, no need to wear anything under it. If yours has a deep V try a lace cami under it for modesty. With black pants or a slip skirt it creates a column of color – making you look tall and thin. A vest dresses up jeans. Very cute with white jeans as the seasons start to change. Add a big chunky necklace to make this less “office-y”.
