Welcome to the Walk & Talk
CHRISTA : This week we’re talking about a winter weekend getaway. Many of us plan lots of quick trips in the warmer weather, but maybe it’s time to embrace the cold and go someplace new! If you’re traveling this winter, let us know in the comments where you’re going. We might be in need of a little break, and I am sure our readers are interested in some snowy travel ideas, too!
MEGAN : January always feels like someone hit the reset button. I find myself showing up to my workouts with a renewed commitment and looking for the healthier recipes to cook for my family. The new year makes me want to be a better version of myself. This year I’m trying to harness some of that energy and make it last longer than a month.

What We’re Watching
MEGAN : Are you a true crime junkie like me? I’ll Be Gone in the Dark (HBO) is a six episode series based on Michelle McNamara’s book with the same name. The docu-series retells the story of the “golden state killer” who alluded capture for over 30 years. McNamara’s book and research were essential in the arrest of this terrifying rapist and serial killer. The series also tells McNamara’s story while she was writing and researching the book. Spoiler alert: she dies.
CHRISTA : Who has already watched the first episode of The Pitt (season 2, HBO Max) last night? This was hands down one of my favorite shows of 2025, and I’m so happy it’s back for another weekly watch. If you’re new to it, the entire series follows one intense ER shift, with each episode covering a single hour of the day. It’s fast paced, incredibly well acted, and absolutely deserving of all its award nominations.
What We’re Wearing: Outfit Ideas for Women Over 50
CHRISTA : This is what I’m wearing on one of those unexpectedly warmer 50-degree days. I shared this look-for-less under $50 fleece a few weeks ago and I now have it in two colors because I love it that much. (When you find something good, buy a few colors! No one will notice unless you post side-by-side selfies wearing it!) It’s great on its own for milder days and also the perfect cozy layer to slip under a coat when winter really shows up.
Style tip: This fleece comes in 38 color combos, sizes XS – XL. Fit is TTS, I’m 5’4, usually a 6-8 and wearing a small. The only problem with it that I see is choosing one color (or two!).
MEGAN : I went to my first “next gen” bridal shower and this is what I wore. Comfortable, a little dressy and cute. These vegan leather jeans from the GAP are several years old, but holding strong. You will be surprised by how many ways you can wear them. Mine are long sold out, but if you click the picture I’ve linked some others. Vegan or real leather pants are warm and windproof (hence the short sleeved sweater). The shower was lovely and guess what – they still make the rehearsal bouquet out of the bows!

What We’re Loving: Everyday Favorites Worth Sharing
MEGAN : If hearts aren’t your thing but you still like to feel festive for Valentine’s Day, this JCrew cashmere sweater is for you. JCrew’s cashmere is excellent quality and this sweater looks great with blue denim and white denim– allowing you to wear it through the spring. It’s on sale for under $100 – end of season sale.

CHRISTA : January is the perfect time to refresh your birthday stash. These are a few favorite picks from Caspari that I love to keep on hand for easy, last-minute celebrations. And while you’re online restocking, don’t forget to get a head start on Valentine’s Day!
- Adhesive gift tag labels, small gift bags and tissue paper
- Wine bottle bags
- Cocktail napkins and birthday candles

What to Wear to…a Winter Weekend Getaway
Each week, we’re sharing an outfit inspired by a real-life destination, giving you fresh outfit ideas and a little nudge to get out and try something new. These effortless, comfortable looks will help you feel put together and ready to explore, whether you’re heading somewhere familiar or discovering a new favorite close to home. And remember, you don’t need a whole new outfit to make it work. Use these looks as inspiration, shop your closet, and then add one or two new pieces if you want to freshen things up.
CHRISTA : A cozy turtleneck sweater is always the first thing I grab when it’s cold outside. It’s warm enough for chilly mornings paired with fleece-lined leggings. It’s easy to layer under a packable vest for daytime exploring. And it still looks polished for dinner by the fire paired with some black pants. One great sweater, endless outfit options, and instant cozy vibes.
This turtleneck sweater is Old Navy’s SoSoft knit and feels like cashmere for a fraction of the price. It comes in 9 colors, plus petite/regular/medium sizes. And, best part…it’s 44% off, only $25.
Style Tip: Don’t miss this hat. On sale right now 30% off at Bloomingdales, packaged in a set with a matching scarf. Great gift idea for those winter birthdays.

MEGAN : My girl is Samantha. Sam is 54, married, mother of three kids – all out of the nest, either in college or out and she and her husband are going with another couple to The Greenbrier for the weekend. This is a road trip for Sam and her husband so she is wearing her cozy Varley set in the car. Super comfortable but still chic enough to eat a casual dinner and explore when they arrive. Saturday night is a fancy dinner in one of the restaurants and then a jazz club. A cashmere sweater dress and boots will keep our friend Sam warm and stylish as she enjoys an evening out.
Style tip: Don’t overthink it, less is more. Pack a few things that are all interchangeable and you will have something to wear to everything you want to do.

Just for Fun: Smart Finds & Random Little Joys
MEGAN : What the fork? This is a silverware look for less. I recently updated my silverware for this set from Target. One of these sets is $50 the other is $120. Can you tell the difference?

CHRISTA : I love a good, organized closet, and I try to do quick edits throughout the year so it never feels out of control or overwhelming. Each month, I’ll share a few easy organizing tips to help you keep things simple and stress free. When your closet is organized, you spend less time shopping and way less time staring at your clothes wondering what to wear. This month, we’re starting with a gentle mini reset to ease into the new year.
January’s Closet Tip: January is the perfect time for a fresh start and a little less clutter. Let’s start with a light edit.
- Do a quick edit and consider donating anything you did not wear last year that’s still hanging around.
- Also pull out pieces that are stained, stretched, or just not comfortable anymore.
- Group your basics like tees, tanks, and jeans so you can really see what you own.
- Finish it off by swapping in slim velvet hangers (my favorites!) for an instantly cleaner look and a little extra breathing room. They come in four colors, but honestly, why not pink?
