Today is all about summer lipstick and nail polish — a girl’s best friends for summer! We are each sharing our current top three lip and nail recommendations for summer. It’s the perfect time to put away your dark colors and lighten up your lips and toes. One of these universally flattering lipsticks is only $5. Time to treat yourself to some new, fun colors.
We’re sharing brands we love, but our shade of lipstick might not be your shade. If you’re looking for the perfect shade of lipstick, start here with tips from Bobbi Brown. And, did you know that you can return makeup to Sephora if the color/product doesn’t work for you?

MEGAN : When Christa and I got our colors done last year they advised that my “best lip color” was a cool pink. Hmmmmm. A blue undertone? I’m not exactly sure, but I will tell you that I own every manufacturers’s version of a medium, your-lips-but-better pink. Seriously, it’s my secret talent, I can go in any Sephora or CVS or Nordstrom and come out with the exact same shade of pink that I already own five thousand of.
- Maybelline – Rum Riche (deep nude)
- Make Up Forever – Jolly Blush (brown baby pink)
- Nars – American Woman (chestnut rose)
When I was in college my stylish sorority sister always wore Clinique Red on her toes and Clinique Baby Pink on her hands. It was so effortlessly chic and has stuck with me all these years. Traditional? Sure, but you can’t go wrong with tried and true. I tend to stick to very light “baby pinks” on my hands and match my toes. IF I get a wild hair and go for color on my toes, 99% of the time it’s OPI Big Apple Red.
- OPI – Bubble Bath (opaque baby pink)
- Londontown kur Illuminating Nail Concealer – Milky (sheer nude)
- Londowntown Kur Perfecting Nail Veil – Violet Mauve (light lavender)

Christa’s Summer Lipstick and Nail Polish
CHRISTA : For lips, I lean towards mauve colors. I love these three lipstick brands — all three provide extra moisture, plus they’re lightweight and long lasting. (You’ve seen the tarte Juicy Lip on the blog many times, and it’s definitely my favorite that I always keep with me — all the tarte Maracuja lip products are worth a try!) I’ll often layer a darker lip color under a lighter color to give me a little extra color without it being too dark. Just play around — there are no rules!
- Merit Signature Lightweight Lipstick in Millennial (classic pink)
- Urban Decay Vice Hydrating Lipstick in Local (sheer mauve pink)
- Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Balm in Hibiscus (mauve berry)
For nails, I tend to stick with the same colors for every pedicure and like the two below. I’ve stopped getting my nails done because the gel polish and dip polish were wrecking them (my nails have seriously been recovering from the damage since January!), but these press-on nails are a great option when you need a quick manicure.
- OPI’s (Pink) On Canvas (Downtown LA Collection)
- OPI’s “Just Lanai-ing Around” (Purple Nail Polish Collection)
- KISS imPress Press-on Nails in Sandbox (you can use the link below, but you might then have to search for the color “sandbox”)
