Today we’re elevating our essential wardrobe pieces by adding in a few of our favorite spring trends to build outfits that reflect our personal styles, give confidence and feel comfortable. Don’t forget to begin with your basics, then incorporate a few more trendy or unique pieces that align with your individual style—these two simple steps will streamline the process of dressing effortlessly, and give your shopping more focus (i.e. fewer returns). In no time, you’ll have a simplified wardrobe that you love!

We’ve chosen our favorite 2024 spring trends that we’re excited to try, and we’re sharing how we’d style them, to take our winter basics into early spring. Don’t let the trends overwhelm you. Repeat after us: You don’t need ALL THE TRENDS. Choose a trend that speaks to your aesthetic, and add a piece or two to your basics to create fashionable looks to wear now and wear later.

Most importantly, use the trends as a guide, buy what you feel amazing wearing and love to put on. Your clothes need to speak to YOU and make you happy. Going into your closet should bring you joy.

MEGAN: I love a theme – for a party, an outfit or a trend. While perusing the fashion mags and blogs I was immediately attracted to these trends: mob wife (call me Carmella), country club chic (Muffy?) and trench coats (Columbo was my favorite show). Working from my closet essentials as a foundation and adding a trendy piece or two keeps these looks from being too costume-y.

CHRISTA: My favorite spring trends are all about the fresh colors. I like to stay neutral, so knowing what colors are trending helps give me some direction when I’m browsing for something new. (Plus, when you’re online shopping, it’s easy to filter by colors!) There are so many exciting spring color trends–including icy pink (instead of Barbie pink), oxblood (instead of cherry red), espresso bean (instead of stick of butter), cobalt blue (instead of aquamarine), corporate gray (instead of all black), watercress (instead of lime), and nautical navy (instead of beige). (source) And don’t forget the Pantone Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz.

I narrowed my choices down to these three:

  • Color Trend: Shades of Blue
  • Color Trend: Forest Green
  • Leopard (yes, I’m considering it like a color!)

Trench Coats

MEGAN: The trench coat is underrated. Arguably it is the most versatile jacket you (should) own. With a liner in winter it is an overcoat, in the spring it’s your rain coat and in the fall it’s a light jacket. Nowadays trench coats come in fun pops of color, different lengths–even denim! These are not Columbo’s trench coats from the 60s.

How I Would Style It

Keeping it casual with jeans and a button down lets the trench coat be the star of the show. I would add a silk scarf to elevate the look. Remember it doesn’t have to be raining to wear your trench coat!

Shades of Blues

CHRISTA: Several shades of blue are trending. One color you might already have is a darker shade of navy–think navy that is almost black, like you might mistake it for black in your dark closet! But if you want a little more pop, go for cobalt blue. Whichever shade you choose, you can’t go wrong adding blue this spring.

How I Would Style It

Try the navy tweed jacket with your favorite blouse or t-shirt and a dark denim. Perfect for lunch with the girls!

Mob Wife

MEGAN: Dressing like a mob wife is all about your attitude. Think Carmella Soprano, she wore her confidence like her best accessory – front and center, even Tony was afraid of her. Walk into the room knowing YOU are the boss. Lots of jewelry, a logo bag, heels, any animal print, BIG sunglasses AND your confidence is all you’ll need.

How I Would Style It

I just like saying “mob wife,” it’s giving me dangerous yet fun vibes. Any animal print (we love leopard) with all black, big sunnies and a logo bag or belt will give mob wife vibes. Big hair and red lips for bonus points!

Forest Green

CHRISTA: Kelly green was everywhere over the last couple of years, but now we’re making room in our closets for a darker shade of forest green. I’m loving the forest green trench coat (two trends in one!) at an affordable price; if you can’t fully commit to a trend, try it in a more affordable piece first. I think this color will work beautifully now, and also later as we bring our white jeans back into rotation.

How I Would Style It

A column of color is anything but boring when you add in a pop of an on trend color. Add the green jacket and green mules to a column of black for some extra style.

Country Club Chic

MEGAN: Country Club Chic and Preppy are interchangeable terms. Anything “old school” like pearls, nautical, silk scarves, tennis skirts and monograms are preppy AND country club chic. Ask yourself, “Would Muffy wear this to meet Biff for cocktails after golf?”

How I Would Style It

White jeans/chinos are the base of my spring and summer uniform. Layering it up for warmth in the spring (could add a cashmere sweater over your shoulders) gives you a summer vibe without freezing to death.

A Touch of Leopard

CHRISTA: I love a touch of leopard in an everyday outfit. Treat your leopard like a neutral because it really works with so much. Try adding one of these leopard accessories to one of your outfits for an instant and easy on trend update. Megan always says it’s about that third piece, and a leopard third piece is sure to elevate your look.

How I Would Style It

Using a column of color again, this time it’s paired with leopard accessories. The leopard tote is a statement, and the leopard scarf works perfectly with a black sweater and camel coat.
