Welcome to our weekly “walk and talk,” where we bring our weekly walks to you. Our walks are a time to catch up on family life, share online shopping hits and misses, exchange recipes, discuss our newest Netflix binge — all the stuff that friends share with each other. And now we’re sharing with you!
Be sure to read about how we started our blog during our weekly walks together.
What We’re Watching
CHRISTA: Yellowjackets on Showtime. Think “Lord of the Flies” meets high school girls soccer team. Big, talented cast of women. Currently has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, too! With that ending, I’m so glad there will be a season two. I have way too many questions! (Season 2 is tentatively scheduled for a November/December 2022 release.)
MEGAN: Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy on HBO Max. Stanley transports you to different regions across Italy, introducing you to the regional cuisines and also sharing human interest stories that are really captivating. It’s *almost* as good as going in person!
Are you all as addicted to Podcasts as I am? My current fav is Smartless. I’m not sure if my Jason Bateman/Silver Spoons crush ever went away! The George Clooney episode is my favorite. If your walking bestie isn’t available I highly recommend listening to this while you walk.
What We’re Buying
CHRISTA: Like most of us, I started January with the a list of organizing projects and tackled my closet first. I purchased these drawer organizers for my drawers and these clear bins for extra toiletries, makeup, etc. I use these clear bins in various sizes all around the house and love them. And I love them even more with these labels because organizing should be both functional AND pretty.
MEGAN: I’ve been doing a little bit of organizing, cleaning out/checking the dates in my medicine cabinet and ordering covid tests! Yikes, that was a tough run. Now we are fully restocked with ALL the meds and tests. I made it easy to access with these lazy susans in my bathroom cabinet.
What We’re Eating
CHRISTA: In my house, we have been trying intermittent fasting now for a couple of months (although we did get derailed over the holidays – oops!). (Disclaimer: I’m not a medical professional so before you try this, make sure you do some research to determine if this eating plan is right for you and consult your doctor for their opinion.) Basically, we’re eating sensibly between 11:00am and 7:00pm. The remaining 16 hours are for fasting. It was a tough transition with some hungry mornings, but now that we have been doing it for a while I definitely can say we feel better. I don’t know if it has helped with weight loss yet, but it’s the first step to making lasting changes. (It did take some time for me to accept that my morning diet Coke isn’t part of fasting.)
MEGAN: The new year typically kicks off at my house with a round of Whole30, just to clean the slate and reset after the holidays. All the cookies and sweets, the sugar addiction in real! I like this site – Nom Nom Paleo – she even gives you a monthly chart of what to eat each night for the 30 days!
What We’re Shopping For
CHRISTA: Right now my White House Black Market cart is full with new items. I love their blue collection, although it does make me wish I had a vacation planned to someplace warm! For now I’m considering this leopard blouse, this polka dot dress, this cowl neck sweater, and/or this blue floral blouse, too.
MEGAN: I’m starting to think about transition pieces for Spring. It’s cold here in Virginia so I’m still wearing warm stuff, but this sleeveless turtleneck sweater is great for layering now and alone in Spring! Also eyeing a few sale items (great time to refresh tired pieces), including these fancy snow boots, coatigan that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day (and on sale!) and ALL the wool socks.
What We’re Planning
CHRISTA: It’s almost Valentine’s Day! I’m searching for care packages to send my kids at school (I can’t say what I’m buying in case they are reading). If you need a new place for care packages, I have many recommendations, including Baked by Melissa, Sparkle All Over, Georgetown Cupcakes, Crumbl Cookies, Cheryl’s Cookies, Insomnia Cookies (available in many college towns), or Spoonful of Comfort (soup, pie and cookies). I’ve also sent this snack chest before and both kids liked receiving it.
We will be sharing some fun ideas for a cozy Valentine night at home with your family, sweetie or besties. Check back next week for the details.
MEGAN: This winter has felt 100 years long and it’s barely February! We’ve got at least two months to go and I need some things to look forward to. I’m giving myself hope by planning a Spring trip to Austin, Texas with some of my college girlfriends. I’ve never been to Round Top and I’m hoping we can swing a day trip there. Accepting all suggestions and advice on Round Top!
What We’re Wearing
It’s good to retire your old sneakers more often than you’d expect. Did you know that if you walk 3-4 hours a week, you should replace your shoes every six months? We both recently upgraded our walking shoes to the Brooks Glycerin 19 after being influenced by several bloggers who swear by them…as well as actress Jennifer Garner, who made internet news being spotted wearing them around town! So far, we are quite impressed! They offer excellent support for our weekly walk and talk, especially if you suffer from any kind of foot issues (like planters fasciitis).
After a lot of searching we have found that pricing is very consistent across online retailers for these shoes (and we have not seen them on sale). We both purchased ours from Zappos. We both have the black/ombre/metallic color. Style tip: size up a 1/2 size from your normal sneaker size, and if your feet tend to run wide, definitely get the wide version because they do seem a little bit narrower than other sneakers. Walking in these is like walking on clouds! Seriously they are super cushy and cute too! Megan’s tip: During these winter months, if you’re walking outside, I recommend wearing wool socks with them. These are my fav wool workout socks.
And, here’s where we walked today…
A peek along our walk and talk…it was a chilly morning, but a good time to walk (and window shop, also known as blog research!).
