Welcome, Friends!

Welcome to Style Among Friends! We’ve talked about starting a blog for years. It’s exciting that you’re here reading our first post. We’re Christa and Megan, thank you for joining us!

We’ve been friends for over 15 years and during the pandemic we were weekly walking buddies. During that time we’d chat about everything from blogs we’re reading, entertainment, and fashion to what we’re watching and everyday life. We’ve “influenced” each other for years with our recommendations and now we’re taking our weekly walks virtual – sharing all our fun finds and favorite things with you, right here on Style Among Friends.

Hopefully you’ll find something here that makes your life a little easier, gets you excited about your wardrobe or challenges you to try something new. Take a minute to learn about us by clicking the “About” link above.

We hope that you like what you see and that you’ll tell your friends…because everything is better when it’s shared among friends.

Here are a few personal style recommendations to help you get to know us.

I am drawn to neutrals when I’m shopping because I like to buy pieces that make putting together outfits easier. (I might have far too many black sweaters!) And I am not ashamed to say that when I find something I love, I buy it in a few colors! This outfit below is a typical outfit I’d wear most days in the winter (when I’m not wearing leggings and an Abercrombie sweatshirt). You might say it’s my uniform. The sweater + jeans + flats combo works for me for an everyday look. The pattern in the shoes plus few pieces of jewelry pull it together. You could also add pattern in a belt and then just front tuck the sweater.

Christa’s Tips

The jeans are 10″ rise (skinny/button fly) from JCrew and I’ve had them for a few years. I know skinny jeans aren’t as cool these days, but they work for me. I like to get an ankle length when I wear them with booties because I’m not a fan of how the cuffed jeans look on my shorter legs. Besides JCrew, my other go to place for jeans is White House Black Market. I’m 5’4″ and their “short” length is perfect for me. I usually purchase their high rise.

The Vince sweater was a splurge at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale in July. That’s the best time to buy some of the luxe brands at deep discounts – and I definitely can feel the difference in the quality of this sweater compared to some my others. Worth the splurge! And I am so glad I got a Nordstrom credit card this year just so I could shop the sale early and get a few of these luxe brands before they sold out. Fit tip for the sweater: Size down – I’m a 12/14 and wearing a M.

A simple gold necklace is a go to on most days – the one pictured is from White House Black Market but I don’t see it on their site now. Amazon has a good dupe, as well as dupes for the discontinued Loft bracelet set. This is another necklace I often wear.

I wish I could say I’m the girl that wakes up every morning, showers and gets dressed in a cute outfit but… The reality these days (uh hello pandemic!) is that I find myself lingering in my workout clothes a little longer than I should, Am I alone? I think we all have a “style” or “uniform” that we follow, you might not even realize you’re doing it. With that said, I would describe my personal style as classic, a little preppy with some boho mixed in.

In the winter you will most often find me in JCrew 9” rise petite (I am 5’1”) jeans, a cashmere turtleneck sweater (Nordstrom has the best bang for your buck), clogs (the MOST underrated shoe EVER) or boots. And lots of jewelry. If you knew me in elementary school I always had on bracelets and rings. Silver graduated to gold and now I’m never not in gold hoops and bangles. My style evolves in the Spring, more jeans and sweaters, but I go with a lighter wash denim and more pastel sweaters. Sneakers replace the boots and sandals replace the clogs as the weather warms up and if my pedicure allows. Now that we know each other a little better, what is your uniform? How do you transition your closet from Winter to Spring? After all, this is Style Among Friends and friends share!

Megan’s Beauty Tips

I’m a total beauty product J-U-N-K-I-E, I can’t walk through CVS without checking out all the latest lotions and potions. In fact my friends will tell you that I’m constantly telling them to, “TRY THIS LIP GLOSS!” or “THIS MOISTURIZER WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!”. I can’t help myself. You will be seeing a lot of suggestions about products from me, mostly on Instagram but I’ll follow up on here as well. Right now I’m really into lip balm type products, two years later and I’m starting to realize that lipstick is wasted inside my mask. Summer Fridays lip butter is amazing, super hydrating with a hint of natural lip color and it smells like brownie batter! Ummmm, yes please!

  3. I’d love style tips for those who really hate to wear jeans. Jeans are my “I have to wear these…grumble grumble” because for me they are not comfortable; Stylish tips that aren’t dress pants but not the leggings either! It’s a struggle.
Excited to see what tips and tricks come in the future.

Congrats ladies on starting this new Blog! Very exciting. (Megan, does this mean no more “tips” on our morning dog walks) 🙂
As an over 50 lady, I agree; jeans are tricky to buy. Believe it or not, Talbots has some flattering jeans for all body types and styles (and not frumpy)!
I look forward to your posts!
