Now Let’s Walk & Talk!
Welcome to Walk & Talk, a weekly hangout for women over 50 who love good finds and great outfits. It’s all about easy looks, favorite things, and the kind of recommendations you’d text to a friend.
CHRISTA : There’s something about a change of season that makes us ready for a little change of our own. We’re pulling out the sweaters, trading sandals for boots, and maybe even feeling inspired to step outside our comfort zones, too. Mariska Hargitay did just that this week, swapping Olivia Benson’s badge for the Emmys stage and taking on a completely new role as host. So in the spirit of trying something new, we’re easing into sweater weather and embracing everything this next season has to offer.
MEGAN : I’m ready for sweater weather, but Mother Nature is still serving summer. So while I sit in the air conditioning and mop by brow, I’m online shopping for sweaters that will be perfect for cooler temps. Always take an inventory of your closet before you begin the quest. Check for items that are worn out or colors that you are missing. Chartreuse is making a big play this fall, consider adding a sweater in a green tone that flatters your skin.

What We’re Watching
MEGAN : My husband and I went to see The Odyssey in the theater the other night and it was good. Heads up it’s three hours long (!) so maybe don’t go to the 9pm show unless you’re a night owl. Totally worth seeing in the IMAX theater (it’s filmed in IMAX) – my only complaint is that it was a little loud. (Is my age showing?)
CHRISTA : If you haven’t seen these 2026 Emmy-winning series, what are you waiting for?
- The Pitt – 25 nominations and 6 wins, including Noah Wylie in Lead Actor
- Hacks – 24 nominations and 2 wins, including Jean Smart winning for best lead actress in a comedy for all five seasons of her show!
- Widow’s Bay – 19 nominations and 14 wins, including Matthew Rhys in Lead Actor
- Pluribus – 18 nominations and 6 wins, including Rhea Seehorn in Lead Actress
- BEEF – 16 nominations and 3 wins
Fun fact: 5 out of 6 women who won acting Emmys were over 50!!
And how much did we love Mariska Hargitay hosting the Emmy’s this year? She was fabulous. Click below to check out her monologue.
What We’re Loving
MEGAN : This could be the most perfect blouse of all time. The stripes, the leopard, the ruffles, the tunic style… the French girls just get it. Fit is true to size.

CHRISTA : Literally just arrived, and I cannot wait to wear it! It’s the perfect early fall dress from Tuckernuck. The sleeveless style and cotton fabric say, “I’m still holding on to summer,” while the color, especially with a chunky brown sandal, says, “Bring on the pumpkin spice.” Also available in a black ditsy floral, sizes XXS – XXL.

The Short List: Sweater Weather
“The Short List” is ten things we found, five from each of us, that we’d probably be texting each other anyway. Let us do the scrolling and searching, then send you straight to the good finds, smart buys, and things actually worth adding to cart.
CHRISTA : Sweater weather can’t get here fast enough! Here our top picks of sweaters we don’t want you to miss — stock up now before the fall and winter chill.
- 1 – We all know Nordstrom cashmere is good, but don’t miss “C by Bloomingdales” cashmere for another quality alternative.
- 2 – As short sleeve sweater is the transitional wardrobe hero.
- 3 – A sweater dress can take you everywhere! Love it styled with your tall boots.
- 4 – A zip up hoodie sweater is a perfect travel companion.
- 5 – Make sure one of your sweaters has some unique and interesting details, like this embroidered cardigan by Boden.

MEGAN : I love sweater weather, pumpkin spice, football games and a bonfire with friends. This weeks round up is what I consider five essential sweaters that should be in every closet. Through my EXTENSIVE research spanning MANY years I have learned that you can get excellent cashmere at Nordstrom Rack for under $100. I added in a bonus item, a cashmere bandana scarf, because I think some version of this will be the the “it” accessory of fall in winter.
- The classic: a crew neck sweater in gray is an essential wardrobe basic
- A V neck is versatile, wear it over a tee or button down or tie it around your shoulders
- Every closet needs a black cashmere turtle neck – hands down the most useful item
- Cashmere hoodie is the ultimate in elevated casual luxurty
- Striped short sleeve polo neck – the early fall transition piece
- Bonus item – a cashmere bandana scarf goes with every sweater

Just for Fun
MEGAN : From the moment I saw 9 to 5 in the movie theater I LOVED Dolly Parton. And that was before I knew about her philanthropic side, or her incredible ability to write songs. This one is my favorite. Rest in peace and rhinestones sweet Dolly.
CHRISTA : More mahjong, of course. These are great wood, painted mahjong racks, and ONLY $50! Comes in nine bright colors. At nearly 20″ they’ll hold your bigger tiles. You could buy two sets and mix and match colors for a really fun tablescape! The brand also has scalloped racks/pushers.
