Walk and Talk…plus What to Wear to a Valentine’s Date Night

weekly walk and talk

Welcome to the Walk & Talk

MEGAN : Does a Valentine’s date night feel over hyped to you? Reach out to another empty nest couple and go on a double date. Pizza and a movie? Classical concert and wine after? Use Valentine’s Day as you reason to schedule a fun night out.

CHRISTA : This is your friendly reminder to get that Valentine’s care package started. Your adult kids who are out of school might appreciate it just as much, or even more, than your college kids and they don’t need to live far away to feel the love. A few cozy, thoughtful, feel-good treats go a long way, and it’s a simple way to say “thinking of you” without making a big production out of it.

What We’re Watching

MEGAN : The Seven Dials on Netflix is your next snow/ice day binge. It’s a three part mini series based on the 1929 Agatha Christie book. A country house party goes very wrong when a prank turns regretful and someone ends up dead. If you love a period piece who-dun-it, you miss Downton Abbey and can’t wait for the next season of the Gilded Age then this show is for you.

CHRISTA : Just wrapped up season 2 of Palm Royale on Apple TV+, and honestly, it’s so ridiculous (but in the best way). Totally over the top, completely bingeable, and clearly having fun with itself. The cast alone is reason to watch, with Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin, and the legendary Carol Burnett. And can we talk about the costumes? Half the fun is just soaking in all that fabulous fashion.

What We’re Wearing: Outfit Ideas for Women Over 50

CHRISTA : Hopefully last week’s snow was the last of it, because getting the dog out for #1 and #2 is a whole production! 😂 I’m bundled up in some old favorites to take her outside: coat by Sam Edelman (similar on sale), boots by Sorel (similar), hat from Amazon, and CRZ Yoga fleece lined leggings. All have been in my winter rotation for a few years, definitely favorites for the cold weather.

Doggie tip: Josie is staying warm and dry in her Lands’ End doggie squall jacket (monogrammed, of course!). The velcro front and belly closures make it easy to get a great fit on her.

MEGAN : Looking for a Valentine date night idea? My husband and I just did a cooking class at Sur La Table and it was an excellent date night. Comfort was key, as was rolling up your sleeves since it’s a hands on class. I’ve been test driving these viral $50 Quince jeans and this 5’1 girl is excited to tell you that they did NOT need to be hemmed. (They come in FOUR length options.)

Fit tip: Lots of colors, inseams and waist options for the Bella jeans from Quince. Highly recommend.

What We’re Loving: Everyday Favorites Worth Sharing

MEGAN : I’ve been searching for the most comfortable sneaker on Earth to wear with casual pants, jeans or even dresses. Something that feels as good as it looks. These are the closest I’ve found so far. If it’s any proof, I just ordered a second pair in a different color.

CHRISTA : My dry hands are awful this winter, and this Gold Bond Age Renew hand cream has been saving them. It’s rich enough to handle serious dryness but still sinks in fast, plus the age-renewing benefits are a nice little bonus. I keep it by my desk, bed and powder room sink, and find myself reaching for it constantly. It’s fragrance-free, too, so I can use it anywhere without the worry about offending anyone with a heavy scent.

What to Wear to…a Valentine’s Day Date Night

Each week, we’re sharing an outfit inspired by a real-life destination, giving you fresh outfit ideas and a little nudge to get out and try something new. These effortless, comfortable looks will help you feel put together and ready to explore, whether you’re heading somewhere familiar or discovering a new favorite close to home. And remember, you don’t need a whole new outfit to make it work. Use these looks as inspiration, shop your closet, and then add one or two new pieces if you want to freshen things up.

CHRISTA : Valentine’s date night, but keep it easy. 🩷❤️ A little pink, a little red, nothing fussy and every piece works long after February 14. Cute, comfy, and totally re-wearable… just how we like it.

Style Tip: This cashmere pink sweater will be great into early spring, and it’s 44% off at Nordstrom Rack.

MEGAN : Are you going out for Valentine’s Day? Grab something red in your closet and make the outfit around that – red shoes, sweater, pants, scarf? I’ve got some red pants in my closet and Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to wear them. The bow blouse from Loft is currently half off (will be cute all spring). I’ve got a black blazer, but a denim jacket would also be cute with this outfit as would black penny loafers (or my new favorite Adidas sneakers!) if heels aren’t on your bingo card.

Style tip: I love this bow blouse and the V neck makes it much easier to wear for those of us with (ahhem) larger chests. This top is 100% cotton but it runs big. Size down one.

Just for Fun: Smart Finds & Random Little Joys

MEGAN : I read Theo of Golden by Allen Levi this month and you guys — it’s so good! Like a hug from your grandparents, a treat you didn’t know you needed. You MUST listen to the audio version. The reader is David Morse, a Tony award winning actor. This book is getting a lot of publicity right now, it seems like everyone is talking about it. Fun fact: This is Allen Levi’s first book.

CHRISTA : Isn’t pink and red the best color combo? My search started when I got an email for that super cute water bottle (that I immediately ordered!) and quickly took me down a path of more fun, fabulous pink-and-red finds. These are a few favorites I’ve been saving in my cart, just in time for Valentine’s Day. 🩷❤️
