Now Let’s Walk & Talk!
Welcome to Walk & Talk, a weekly hangout for women over 50 who love good finds and great outfits. It’s all about easy looks, favorite things, and the kind of recommendations you’d text to a friend.
CHRISTA : Hello, October! We’re ready for cooler mornings, cute layers, cozy nights, and every excuse to make ordinary days feel a little more fun. There’s something about this month that makes us want to refresh the closet, make plans with friends, and lean all the way into fall. What’s on your October list? Enjoy all the pumpkin spice, friends!
MEGAN : As the leaves begin to change and the days get shorter it becomes apparent that it is time to change up my lipstick. I put away my light pink glosses and out come the rosie brown lipsticks. For me it’s the small changes that help me transition into the new season. What do you switch up when the seasons change?

What We’re Watching
MEGAN : I read East of Eden by John Steinbeck about 15 years ago. The book stayed with me. Absolutely on my top 10 books of all time list. Netflix adapted the story, starring Florence Pugh – just came out October 1st. I can’t wait to see if the Netflix series is as good as the book.
CHRISTA : OK, I will admit I am watching Wonka’s Golden Ticket. Contestants enter the world of Willy Wonka to compete in a reality competition for a lifetime supply of money. There’s everything from the Wonkavator elevator to lick-able wallpaper! I love all of the attention to classic Wonka details. I don’t love all the alliances, backstabbing, crying and the “life or death drama” – come on folks, it’s just a reality show! Watch it for what it is and you’ll enjoy the games and Wonka nostalgia.
What We’re Loving
MEGAN : I’ve been looking for a short sleeved sweater (striped of course!) to add to my fall closet. This sweater arrived from Nordstrom last week and I could not love it more. Looks amazing with brown, denim or khaki. Fit is true to size, not itchy and doesn’t shed.

CHRISTA : The nights are getting colder…that calls for new pajamas! My favorite pajamas (they’re the only ones I own) are by far the Nordstrom Moonlight Eco Knit Pajamas. They’re so comfortable, made from soft lightweight fabric. Plus they always have the cutest patterns. If you need a pajama refresh, check them out. They currently have several colors/patterns on sale.
Size tip: I am 5’4 and wear a 6-8. In these pajamas I prefer a medium.

The Short List: Fall Shoes
“The Short List” is ten things we found, five from each of us, that we’d probably be texting each other anyway. Let us do the scrolling and searching, then send you straight to the good finds, smart buys, and things actually worth adding to cart.
CHRISTA : These are my picks for my favorite shoes as we’re heading into fall and winter.
- Ballet flats are a must for me, and this fun suede pair with grommet details is on its way from Nordstrom now. Classic style with a modern twist.
- My go-to sneakers are still my Kizik slip-ons. I’m also wearing my Gola sneakers with jeans as I look for more stylish, comfortable alternatives to some of my usual shoes.
- A good bootie to wear with denim is a fall and winter essential. The wedge heel on this pair from Sofft makes them especially comfortable for running around.
- I decided to pull out my tall boots earlier this year. Look for a lower heel, like this 1″ heel from Dolce Vita. They’ll be easy to wear for hours, and they look great with all the fall dresses.

MEGAN : Five essential shoes for fall, for women over 50. These are my go to shoes as the weather starts to change and I have to put my beloved flip flops away.
- Dansko clogs, anyone that’s ever had foot issues knows these are the best and now they’re cute too!
- Black sling backs can be worn with dresses, shorts, jeans or skirts. They are universal.
- Oxblood (or red) ballet flats are the item I added to my closet this fall.
- Suede loafers are like slippers to me. Timeless and oh-so-comfortable.
- No shoes list is complete with out a pair of fashion sneakers.

Just for Fun
MEGAN : Who needs to hear some good news? Our friends at Variety are saying that Rob Lowe has confirmed that a sequel to St. Elmo’s Fire is in the works. Just what my soul needs.

CHRISTA : This was definitely an “add to cart” impulse buy! Did I need another water bottle? No! But when it’s this cute, how could I resist. Urban Outfitters always has the BEST Owala water bottle patterns. Great gift idea, too!

BONUS : Have you seen the newest fashion collab to hit the internet? Just released this week, it’s Frances Valentine x Mary Tyler Moore. All the classic styles that MTM made famous. From Laura Petrie’s ground-breaking capri pants (imagine a woman on TV in pants!) to Mary Richards’ newsroom dresses. And, of course, her beret! Check it out!
