What We’re Watching This Week

MEGAN : Christmas movies are bringing me joy. Your assignment this week is to watch at least one of these.

  • Oh. What. Fun (Prime) With a star studded cast, this movie illustrates who really makes the holiday magic happen and what happens when you diss her.
  • The Family Stone (Hulu) How can this movie be 20 years old? Another star powered cast led by the amazing Diane Keaton. A little sad but still relevant 20 years later.
  • Champagne Problems (Netflix) Brand new in 2025 and led by Minka Kelly, this holiday movie is set in Paris. The most “hallmark-y” of the bunch.

CHRISTA : Highly recommend checking out Hamnet (in theaters) over your holiday break. Based on Maggie O’Farrell’s historical fiction novel, Hamnet is about the life and tragic death of William Shakespeare’s son, thought to be his influence for Hamlet. The story centers on his wife Agnes, depicted beautifully by Jessie Buckley, who is absolutely captivating in the role and so deserving of her Golden Globe nomination. My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful, moving film, and I think you will too. If you’d like to take a deeper dive, here’s a little more to read.

What We’re Wearing: Outfit Ideas for Women Over 50

CHRISTA : Amazon clothing is hard to shop for, so when we find something good, you bet we’ll be sharing it…like this jacket!

You don’t need to dress up for your next flight to look put together. Swap your leggings for comfy joggers and add a cute, budget-friendly jacket—because planes are always freezing. This Amazon find was under $40, has that perfect thick sweatshirt weight, and works as an extra layer throughout your trip. It’s also perfect to wear to the gym, for errands or for a morning walk and talk.

Fit tip: The jacket fits TTS; I’m a 6-8 and wearing a size small.

MEGAN : My husband and I took the metro to a hockey game this week, feeling very urban. Layers were key as the temps dropped and it was pouring rain when we left the arena. For this outfit I had to start with the team colors! From there I went with comfort, sneakers. I think it worked, since a cutie, 20 something, fashion girlie complimented my outfit on the metro. Winning!

Style tip: The heart necklace I’m wearing is from Kipper in London, unfortunately not linkable. I found a few similar ones for you below.

What We’re Loving: Everyday Favorites Worth Sharing

MEGAN : One for you, one for me – that’s how Christmas shopping goes sometimes (no judgement!). This year as I was doing my shopping a few lipsticks popped into my cart. I adore this French brand and both lipsticks, although very different, are wonderful. One is much more pigmented (color Rose Fume a cool bright pink) yet blurred (not harsh) the other is a buildable balm (color Amour Fou a cool red). One swipe looks like a tinted chapstick, two or three makes your lips look darker. I hope they make more colors, I’m loving both of these.

CHRISTA : This is your reminder! Company is coming and your kids are back home for the holidays. Don’t forget to stock up on Trader Joe’s chocolate croissants!

Mini Style Fix: What to Wear for New Year’s Eve

The Mini Style Fix is like your stylish bestie whispering, “Wear this, you’ll look fabulous”—these bite-sized tips are fast, fun, and totally doable.

Will you watch the ball drop in your pajamas or at a party? The key to New Year’s Eve outfits is to be comfortable and festive without breaking the bank. Two options for women over 50.

MEGAN : The foundation of this outfit is probably already in your closet. NYE is the perfect time to “shop your closet” – pull out anything sparkly and work around that. Black pants and a silk tee are a great base. If you are going fancy, add heels, jewelry and sparkles. The key is comfort. No one wants to start the new year in a full sweat so focus on layers.

Style Tip: I have a similar sequined duster from a few years ago and I pull it out EVERY NYE. I’ve worn it over pajamas, with ripped jeans and a white oxford, over a slip skirt. It’s a unique wardrobe staple. The price on this one is perfect for a “wear it once a year” item.

CHRISTA : This is my kind of New Year’s Eve! Get cozy for some movies, games and tasty takeout! These Soma pajamas in the “fizz the season foil” pattern are perfect for your at home festivities. And they’re sold as separates so you can get the sizing just right (love it when brands do this!). I’ve also linked the same pattern in their shorts and nightgown, too. And don’t miss that blue tooth speaker–it’s a champagne bottle, and only $20!

Just for Fun: Smart Finds & Random Little Joys

CHRISTA : Start a new New Year’s Eve tradition! We’ve been doing this for a few years now with my brother’s family, and it’s always a hit. Have everyone bring a fun or funny $5 gift (same item, one for each person, wrapped). Then, each hour leading up to midnight, pick one gift to unwrap together. It’s such a playful way to mark the countdown, and the laughs come from seeing the random (and often ridiculous) things people find. My daughter usually adds a personal touch with her photo on something, while my husband makes a last-minute Five Below run on New Year’s Eve, and I’ve tried to be crafty with my Cricut machine.

MEGAN : Anyone else use up all their Audible credits this month? I just finished a FREE Christmas book that was pretty darn good. If listening to a book while you wrap, bake, stand in line at the Post Office is more your jam – download Her Last Christmas on Audible. Great “who dunnit” set in the Alps.
