weekly walk and talk

Ghoul-Friends Share the Good Stuff 👻🖤👻

The pumpkins are glowing, the air’s got that crisp edge, and our candy stash is officially open for “sampling.” (Purely for quality control, of course.) We’re leaning into the cozy, slightly spooky vibes of the season with a little style, a little magic, and a lot of fun. 🎃 And this week’s mini style fix is keeping with the spirit of the season: one black piece that always works (no witch hat required)! 🖤

Grab your favorite fall drink, light a candle that smells vaguely like a bonfire and cinnamon, and come wander through this week’s haunted walk and talk with us… 🎃

Happy Halloween! Join us again, same time next week!

What’s Haunting Our Screens

MEGAN : There is never a bad time to binge Vampire Diaries, but Halloween feels especially appropriate. Not a new show, but a cult classic, Vampire Diaries is perfect for those of us that aren’t into scary movies but love a supernatural theme. If you were a fan of the Twilight series and Dawson’s Creek you will love Vampire Diaries.

CHRISTA : If you’re in the mood for something dark and chilling, Bring Her Back is one to watch. A bother and sister uncover a horrifying ritual in their new foster home. It’s perfect for a spine-tingling Halloween night. A24, known for its critically acclaimed horror films, will not disappoint with this one.

What We’re Bewitching In

CHRISTA : Some people collect candy. I collect athleisure. 👻 And it’s getting a little scary. Working from home = Zella + SPANX on repeat, always. If I happen to go out (usually just to Chick-fil-A for a Diet Coke, because balance), we’re still cute. And on those rare big days? I summon my signature spell: cute blouse + Kut from the Kloth denim. It’s giving effortless. It’s giving put-together. It’s giving she tried… but not that hard.

MEGAN : This was a month of changes. The weather went from Indian summer to pre winter chill with a hard frost. The sun is rising later and the dark settles around my house at what feels like a bizarrely early hour. Here’s what I wore this month, at a glance. My two most worn items (if I’m being totally honest) were the Spanx sweat pants and the Zella jacket. Anyone else feel like it’s time to clean out their closet? Donate the items that are no longer serving. I know that cleaning out my closet will make it easier to make outfits and get dressed each day. This is a sign, make a bag to send to Thred Up or drop off at Goodwill.

What’s Casting a Spell on Us

MEGAN : Leaning into cozy right now. I’ve been seeing the small, triangle, cashmere scarves all over Pinterest and the Euro fashion girlies. I ordered one from Absolute Cashmere (not linkable). Here is a round up of my favorites. They are the perfect third piece to jeans and a sweater, sweats, or over your coat. There is something comforting about keeping your neck warm during the chilly months.

CHRISTA : A little kitchen rug witchcraft. My old rugs were looking a bit… ghostly (as in tired, not chic), so I conjured up these new Dash & Albert beauties. They instantly brightened the space without haunting my budget. High-quality, no-slip, and yes—washable (because kitchen spills have a mind of their own). And with 13 sizes + tons of patterns, it’s dangerously easy to find the perfect match. Consider yourself enchanted.

Mini Style Hex: One Black Piece That Always Works (no witch hat required)

The Mini Style Fix is like your stylish bestie whispering, “Wear this, you’ll look fabulous”—these bite-sized tips are fast, fun, and totally doable.

Black is a classic wardrobe color, timeless and goes with everything. You can dress black up or down and match it with pretty much any color in your closet.

MEGAN : If you asked me for one piece of clothing that should be in every woman over 50s winter wardrobe I would say a black cashmere turtleneck sweater. Wear it with jeans (as I’ve styled it here) or with a black slip skirt for a cocktail occasion. I always travel with my black turtleneck sweater because it is so versatile. With black joggers, black pants and heels, with an oxford layered under it or with jeans. So easy and it always elevates any outfit you create.

Style Tip: Nordstrom cashmere is my favorite. Rarely pills and this sweater has side slits, making it super easy to wear untucked as well as tucked in. Currently at Nordstrom Rack under $70. I have this exact sweater in two colors.

CHRISTA : Every witch needs her wand… and every closet needs the black pant. They cast an instant “I tried” spell—even when you didn’t. If you’re on the hunt for some, I love mine from J.Crew Factory. Pair with a dressy cardigan, a festive red blouse, plaid, or a fair isle knit and you’re magically ready for any holiday gathering. Truly, these pants are the familiar you cannot live without.

Style tip: These J.Crew Factory pants fit TTS; I’m 5’4″ and opted for regular length so they’re a little longer on me than they are on the website model. Paired with the block heel below, and they’re perfect! They also come in petite and tall, and are offered in sizes 00-24. Plus, there are three other colors and one pattern if black isn’t your thing.

Something Caught in Our Web

CHRISTA : This week’s web find: a winter set that’s warm enough to ward off any chills 👻 but still stylish. I’ve loved the hat for ages (under $20!), and the matching scarf just completed the look. It’s cozy without being bulky and comes in eight colors—consider yourself snared.

MEGAN : I’m reading Workhorse by Caroline Palmer. Actually I’m listening to it on Audible and it’s so good. Clo Harmon is working for a prestigious fashion magazine in NYC during the late 90s. She has found that in her working world there are “workhorses”, girls that come from regular middle class families and there are “show horses”, girls with pedigree from elite, socialite families. Clo is a workhorse and she narrates the story through struggles and wins. If you were a working girl in the 90s you will love this book.
