What We’re Watching This Week

MEGAN : Season 2 of The Buccaneers on Apple TV snuck out this summer. I loved season 1 and the second season did not disappoint. A group of American girls head to London in the 1870s to find titled husbands, meanwhile creating quite a stir in the royal communities. Season two finds our girls knee deep in scandal and controversy. If you are a fan of Bridgerton and The Gilded Age you will LOVE The Buccaneers.

CHRISTA : Not my usual pick for a show, but my son and I binged Alien: Earth (Hulu) on a recent trip to visit him. Both of us enjoyed this sci-fi thriller. When a spacecraft mysteriously crashes, a group of human/android hybrids are sent to recover the alien cargo brought back to Earth. This series is part of the Alien franchise, set within that timeline. For real sci-fi fans, this article gives you everything you need to know (and more) about the Alien timeline and the correct order to watch them. Not that into it? You’ll still enjoy this series!

What We’re Wearing: Outfit Ideas for Women Over 50

CHRISTA : Working from home? This SPANX AirEssentials crewneck is your perfect Zoom top! This top could pass for a nice sweater – they’ll never know it’s like your coziest pajamas. (I love this Plum Berry color for fall, too!) I’m also linking my favorite lipstick; turns out this “Plum” shade is perfect with the “Plum Berry” AirEssentials. And this would also be a great travel outfit or amusement park outfit, since I paired it with the very popular FitFlop sneakers you all love so much.

Fit tip: I’m wearing a size M (I’m usually an 8), but I think I could have sized down in this. The SPANX site warned me – they say it runs large.

MEGAN : Pattern, texture and layers are my favorite ways to get dressed in fall. I picked up this nylon bomber jacket at Nordstrom Rack a few weeks ago thinking it would be perfect for walking the dog or running to and from a workout. Since the temps dropped I haven’t stopped wearing it, it’s kind of replaced my jean jacket as a go to. One of the many benefits of this nylon bomber is that it looks a little more polished. Maroon (or merlot as my friend Barb called it) is not a color I’ve ever worn before. But you know what? Maroon works with everything – jeans, green, tan, black. Currently fully stocked at Nordstrom Rack in maroon and black – under $50.

Fit tip: This jacket runs true to size. I’m in my usual large, it zips and can accommodate a sweater underneath.

What We’re Loving: Everyday Favorites Worth Sharing

MEGAN : Trending in Europe since last year, the woolen hood is the perfect accessory to your stylish fall jacket! Everyone is making one, just google “woolen hood”, from H&M, Anthro, Lululemon, Gap… all the usual players. I love that there is form and function in this detachable hood.

CHRISTA : Sweater season is almost here—can you feel it? Time to swap those breezy tops for cozy knits that feel comfy but still polished. If your sweater stash needs a refresh, I’ve rounded up my favorites from Ann Taylor’s Weekend Collection. Casual, elevated, and perfect for women over 50 who want style without the fuss—soft textures, flattering cuts, and just the right details for a comfortable but polished look. Many of their styles come in petite sizing, too, so sleeve length is just right. All four are super cute, but the top left striped one was my #1 pick!

Mini Style Fix: Stylish Fall Jackets

The Mini Style Fix is like your stylish bestie whispering, “Wear this, you’ll look fabulous!” These bite-sized tips are fast, fun, and totally doable.

Here at Style Among Friends, we love a third piece to “finish” an outfit. In the fall that means jackets! So many jackets are trending this year, it’s a bananza! Don’t worry we dug through the spooky interwebs and tried a few on so you don’t have to.

MEGAN : I’ve always been a jean jacket girl. Versatile, goes with everything, machine washable – checks all the boxes. BUT…this fall I’ve fallen in love with a maroon nylon bomber. No one is more surprised than me. I’ve never worn maroon anything before. I picked up a cropped trench last year and wore it all spring and it’s still getting wear this fall. An elegant layering piece that is functional (hello rain!) as much as it is cute. The barn jacket, be still my 80s JCrew loving heart. EVERYONE had a barn jacket. We wore them 6 sizes too big back then and they were lined in flannel, but alas they are back (with a twist)! The most casual of the three jackets I sampled – the perfect stylish fall jacket layered with jeans and a sweater, the barn jacket, screams fall fun fairs and hay rides.

Style Tip: All three of these jackets run true to size. The barn jacket is from Old Navy and currently on sale for UNDER $30. If you are thinking of trying the trend – this is the time to do it.

CHRISTA : No question about it, the barn coat is the jacket of the season. Not sure if it’s your style? Start with a budget-friendly version first. Wear it, test it out, and see how often you reach for it before splurging on a pricier one. Trends like this might stick around, or they might disappear by next fall—so if you’re on the fence, save your dollars. I rounded up three affordable styles, each with its own twist. Try a puffer version, a cinched waist, a cropped length, or a longer version in lieu of a trench coat.

Style tip: Style it with leggings, a long tunic sweater, and tall boots for an easy Saturday outfit. A crossbody bag keeps it modern and hands-free. Click here for more style inspo.

Just for Fun: Smart Finds & Random Little Joys

CHRISTA : It’s the little things that bring joy…like this “appliance slider” for our blender. My husband and I use the blender daily, so it’s always on the counter. This slider makes it easy to move. It glides effortlessly on the counter. Comes in difference sizes for different appliances. Just what you need for your mixer, blender, air fryer, or coffee maker.

And one more thing before I go…a quick read from Self magazine that my stylish friend Dannielle recently shared. Think there’s no MVP in your friend group? Think again — it might just be the one who quietly handles the logistics, remembers everyone’s birthdays, and keeps the plans alive. Meet the “mom” of the friend circle. She’s the emotional anchor who holds your crew together, even when their work goes unnoticed. Give “that mom” of your friend circle a shout out today!

MEGAN : Last week we went to dinner at a friend’s house and we played a game that was SO FUN! I’m not usually a game night person but Hitster was a blast. It sparked so many rabbit hole conversations about different songs and music. Hitster is the perfect addition to your next beach trip, Thanksgiving break — or any Friday night.
