What We’re Watching This Week
MEGAN : We went to the movies this week and saw One Battle After Another. (Any Paul Thomas Anderson fans?) Two hours and forty minutes later I left the cinema wondering what just happened to me. It’s kinda like I felt after seeing Pulp Fiction. Sean Penn and Leonardo DiCaprio are amazing, the whole cast is amazing. Without a doubt Sean Penn will be nominated (and I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t win) for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award. If you like kooky, Tarantino-ish, Boogey Nights, Royal Tennenbaums with a twist you will love this movie. I don’t want to spoil it for you – but it’s going to be a cult classic, you can just tell.
CHRISTA : Has anyone watched the new series House of Guinness (Netflix) yet? I downloaded it on my iPad for a weekend trip. Looks like this new series will be a good one, and all eight episodes are available making it the perfect in-flight binge!
What We’re Wearing: Outfit Ideas for Women Over 50
CHRISTA : My to-do list today was so glamorous: UPS drop-off and a vet visit 🙃. Definitely had “leggings and sweatshirt” written all over it. But honestly, getting dressed just makes the whole day feel better. And it doesn’t have to be fussy – this outfit is basically my go-to formula on repeat.
Style tip: The blouse is older from Avara (so I linked several options in a similar color) and jeans are my favorite Kelsey fit by Kut from the Kloth.

MEGAN : I recently went to a meeting where the dress was “business casual”. I don’t want to date myself, but in my working days that was khakis and a corporate logo denim shirt, with heeled loafers – natch. After last week’s discussion about midi skirts, I took my own advice and styled this wardrobe classic for a business casual day of meetings. I knew we’d be walking a bit so I wore my fashion sneakers and of course a third piece, which is this fabulous silk scarf my mom gave me many years ago. Shop your closet, friends, there is a WHOLE NEW business casual wardrobe in there.

What We’re Loving: Everyday Favorites Worth Sharing
MEGAN : As is often the case for me, I went into Lululemon to do a return and left with, a new bag. In my defense my shopping buddy convinced me by saying, “But, THE. BAG. IS. SO. YOU.”. I mean, who could resist that sales tactic? With no regrets, here I am a few weeks later perfectly pleased with my purchase and singing it’s praises to all of you. The “greige” color is an excellent neutral and shows no stains, the orange paracord strap is just the pop of color to make the purse less utilitarian and the inside, ahhh pockets galore!

CHRISTA : Thinking ahead to some fall events and also Thanksgiving, and these dresses have landed in my cart.
- The first option has a flattering (and comfortable) smocked waist and lots of metallics running through the pattern.
- The second two options are fresh styles from the ever popular Somerset dress collection at Anthropologie. Both available in regular, petite and plus.
- I love the fourth burgundy dress for early fall – it’s light enough for warmer temps yet can be styled with boots for a fall feel. Add a suede jacket when the temps are cooler to continue wearing this dress through the season.
- And the last shirtdress from Ann Taylor is a great work option that also works for Thanksgiving. It’s available in regular and petite.

What We’re Reading in October
CHRISTA : Wanting Daisy Dead was on the Amazon First Read’s list for September, and just released on October 1. I’m ready to dive in this weekend to what promises to be a great thriller. From the publisher: “…a chilling psychological thriller about former university housemates forced to confront their shared past when they receive mysterious invitations to celebrate what would have been their murdered friend’s fortieth birthday. As a true crime podcast records their reunion at their old university haunts, long-buried secrets begin to surface, proving that the wrong person may have been imprisoned for Daisy’s death—and the real killer has been waiting twenty years to strike again.”
MEGAN : A Man Called Ove author, Fredrik Backman, has a new book out – My Friends. The reviews say this book will bring laughter and tears as it examines friendships and relationships that span 25 years. There is a bit of art and life and love all wrapped into this story. If it’s as good as Ove, I’ll be a happy reader.
Mini Style Fix: The Best Loafers for Fall
The Mini Style Fix is like your stylish bestie whispering, “Wear this, you’ll look fabulous”—these bite-sized tips are fast, fun, and totally doable.
We’ll admit it—we love to buy shoes, and the best loafers for fall are at the top of our list this season. They’re the kind of shoe that feels both fun and practical, slipping easily into any wardrobe with jeans, skirts, or even cozy knits. Trust us, this is one style you’ll be reaching for again and again—it’s a fall must-have for everyone.
MEGAN : Arguably the quintessential classic wardrobe staple and a symbol of timeless American style – the loafer. Adapted in the 1930s by GH Bass as the “Weejun”, the original loafer was made in Norway as a combo of a Native American moccasin and a Norwegian fisherman shoe. Quickly adopted by Ivy League co-eds for their comfort and versatility – the loafer (call it a Weejun, Penny or Tassel) has been a standard in both men’s and women’s closets ever since.
My top three picks are a classic suede penny loafer, a black leather Weejun and the currently iconic black leather horse bit slide. I own all three of these exact shoes and wear them in consistent rotation.
Style Tip: The black leather horse bit slide is currently my most worn and favorite loafer (size up 1/2 size). Worn with jeans, long tee shirt dresses, midi skirts or khakis, they give any outfit timeless elegance. My pair is a ‘dupe’ of the Gucci “Princetown” loafer slide. I have worn both (the Gucci and the ‘dupe’) and you cannot tell the difference, other than the box they come in. If you want a look for less, this is the ultimate.

CHRISTA : I never really owned loafers. I always felt like they looked too clunky on me, and I usually prefer a slimmer style like a ballet flat. But while doing some blog research, I discovered ‘soft loafers’ (thanks, Glamour Magazine), and they’re totally my style! There’s nothing fancy about them. They’re basically classic loafers with a slimmer silhouette, a more flexible sole, and sometimes gathered edges. Tory Burch even calls hers a ‘ballet loafer.’ And just like that, I’m sold! (btw…The Tory Burch loafers come in 14 colors and patterns and many are on sale…something for everyone!)
Style tip: Balance proportions. If you’re wearing wider-leg pants, opt for loafers with a slight heel to give a bit of lift and keep the outfit proportionate.
