WHAT WE’RE WATCHING & LISTENING TO

CHRISTA : Please friends – no judgement! Loving this show! Minx (HBO Max) has some great reviews on Rotten Tomatoes but it’s definitely for adults only!!! There is A LOT of nudity! The reviewers are calling it “an original idea,” “a smart and highly watchable series,” and “a snappy workplace dramedy drenched in the sunny glare of early 1970s Southern California.” One reviewer described it as “original and addictive.” It‘s all that, and funny with a great cast. Just make sure the kids are in bed first.

MEGAN : Today I have a multi-discipline entertainment suggestion. I’m talking hard copy book (or Audible), podcast and two TV series. Have you guessed it yet? Here’s a hint: Elizabeth Holmes. Forbes named Holmes the youngest and wealthiest self made female billionaire. (Google: Theranos) The following year Forbes estimated her net worth to be 0. (yes, goose egg!) When this story first broke I became a little obsessed and read the book, listened to the podcast and watched the HBO special. I’m now making my way through The Dropout, the latest series on Hulu. Here’s my two cents.

The book,  Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup always gives the most information and is the best (IMO). The podcast was fascinating bcuz you get to hear her voice and part of her weirdness is that she changed her voice to this oddly deep, manly voice. The HBO series, The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, is more of a documentary. The Hulu series, The Dropout, is a true crime drama series with actors playing the different characters. Final thoughts, I’m glad I read the book first and if you like that continue on to the pod and the series. Welcome to my rabbit hole…

RANDOM STUFF WE’VE PURCHASED

CHRISTA : If we haven’t persuaded you to try a cute summer dress from Amazon (here is last week’s pick), then this darling little dress might be the one you are waiting for. Love these bright summer colors! This dress is very light and could double as your coverup on your next vacation. Pair it with some flip flops and a crossbody bag when you’re out running errands – how cute will you be!

And if all these dresses in the summer sound cute, but the thigh rub is all too real for you (it happens to all of us!), then be sure to grab this or a pair of these. Your thighs will thank you!

MEGAN : The sun is finally back out which is probably why I’m obsessing about hats. After spending the winter buffing, polishing and tenderly nurturing my skin, I’m feeling protective of it. This cutie popped up on my IG feed (man their algorithms are good). It’s already on it’s way to my door.

WHAT MEGAN’S COOKING

Megan's Mean Green Smoothie

www.StyleAmongFriends.com

This green smoothie will start your day off right with a big serving of veggies! (Don't worry, the kids won't even notice.)
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 1 minute
Course Breakfast
Servings 4

Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond/coconut/cashew milk
  • 2-3 cups baby spinach I use fresh but you could use frozen.
  • 3 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder I use a paleo one
  • 1 cup frozen organic mango Trader Joes for the win!
  • 1 frozen banana

Instructions

  • Toss it all in and blend 'er up!

Notes

Don't be fooled by the lush green color of this smoothie. It's creamy and vanilla-y and super yummy. Even my picky eater will drink this one. Pro tip: I tried it out on him the first time in a Yeti with a lid so he couldn't see the color. When I have them, I sprinkle Hemp hearts on top for a little crunch and extra nutrients. Enjoy!!

WHAT WE’RE SHOPPING FOR

CHRISTA : A lot of UPS packages have been arriving lately – mostly fun stuff for vacation! I ordered a few coverups to try and this one by Sanctuary will definitely be in my suitcase! The blue color is perfect for the beach or pool, and I love the style with the tie at the waist. The fabric is so light and it will be perfect to wear from pool to lunch! (I sized up for a looser fit.)

coverup // sandals // clutch (old, by J.Crew; here on Poshmark; or similar)

MEGAN : Always on the hunt for the “perfect” neutral sandal? These were back ordered and finally arrived this week – and they did NOT disappoint! The honey color is perfect and the gold hardware feels super high end. TBH these kinda give me Gucci vibes. Oh, and did I mention they are comfortable?

SOMETHING YOU NEED (TRUST US!)

CHRISTA : This toiletry bag! I have shared this before and, as I’m packing it again, I am reminded of how much I love it. It holds a ton of stuff (including full size bottles), fits perfectly in my suitcase, is well made and doesn’t cost a fortune! (Pro tip: I keep it packed between trips so I’m always ready to go – and I just refill the few items that are running low.) The toiletry bag arrives packaged in a beautiful box, lined with tissue, making it perfect for gift giving, too. (Drop a hint because Mother’s Day is coming up!)

WHAT WE’RE PLANNING

MEGAN : I’m doing a little kitchen table refresh and thought I’d start with the linens. I love a good tablecloth, they set the tone for the kitchen and make clean up easy (just throw it in the wash!). These three caught my eye as I was doing a little research (ah-em shopping) online this week. Do you refresh your kitchen linens (kitchen towels, tablecloth, napkins) with the holidays? Change of seasons? Never?

The smoothie recipe really caught my eye. Frozen fruits make “the medicine go down” as the old song croons. I’ve added a peeled mandarin, a date, turmeric powder (a heap), and black pepper to enable turmeric absorption (fun fact). Rather than the almond milk we use cold water–we’re watching our carbs. Great idea to top it with hemp. We use a Vitamix to blitz our smoothies, what do other readers use?

Christa….I can’t help but think of the neighborhood paper we used to do as kids. Look how far you’ve come! Love your blog and getting a glimpse of your life. And that I will be able to say “I knew her when!”
