Walk and Talk with Us This Week

Walk and Talk with Christa and Megan 2024-09-13

Whether your friend is recovering from surgery or dealing with a loss, supporting her during difficult times can make a profound difference in her life. Here are some thoughtful tips to help your friends through challenging moments:

  1. Listen Actively: Offer a non-judgmental ear and be fully present. Sometimes, just being there to listen can provide immense comfort.
  2. Offer Practical Help: Give your friends some specific ways you can assist, such as running errands, driving them to appointments, preparing meals, or helping with household tasks. Knowing what you’re available to help with can make it easier for them to ask for your help.
  3. Check-In Regularly: Reach out periodically to show ongoing support. A simple text can remind them that they’re not alone.
  4. Provide Encouragement: Offer words of encouragement and positivity. Acknowledge their strength and resilience without minimizing their struggles.
  5. Avoid Clichés: Steer clear of overused phrases like “Everything happens for a reason” or “It could be worse.” Instead, offer genuine empathy and understanding.
  6. Be Patient: Healing and coping take time. Be patient with their process and avoid pushing them to “move on” or “get over it” quickly.
  7. Respect Their Feelings: Validate their emotions without trying to fix their problems. Let them express their feelings freely without imposing solutions.
  8. Stay Connected: Even if they’re not responsive, continue to reach out and show that you care. Your consistent presence can be a source of comfort.
  9. Be Mindful of Their Needs: Tailor your support to what they specifically need or ask for. Everyone’s situation and preferences are different. And, sometimes people don’t want help, and that’s OK, too.

In case you missed it a few weeks ago, this article from NPR is about how a group of women came together when their friend’s husband unexpectedly passed away. Their thoughtfulness during such a challenging time gave their friend something to look forward to.

By offering empathetic, practical, and respectful support, you can help your friends navigate their difficult times and show them that they are valued and cared for. And sometimes, all they need is just a quick walk and talk to brighten their day.

In today’s Walk and Talk, we’re sharing…

  • A book to movie that lives up to the hype
  • Walk and talk–with sprinkles on top?
  • A round up of short sleeve sweatshirts
  • Foot scrub so good, it’s on repeat order!
  • Modern Geisha shoes?
  • Jeans we all loved are back!

Don’t miss any of the good stuff we’re sharing. You can find last week’s Walk and Talk HERE.

ICYMI…What’s On the Blog

This week we’re sharing some fall decor inspo. If you’re lucky enough to live where it’s already cooling off, then you are probably ready for the pumpkins and fall leaves! Check out our easy, affordable ideas from Target, Amazon and Etsy.

What We’re Watching

MEGAN : I LOVE Elin Hilderbrand’s books so it will come as no surprise that I was queued up in front of my TV last week when The Perfect Couple dropped on Netflix. The main character, Amanda Sachs, is played by Eve Hewson. Fun fact: Eve’s dad is Bono. The Perfect Couple is a mini series set in Nantucket, the family has gathered for a wedding and the night before the nuptials someone dies. Anyone in the cast could have done it, but who? Ya gotta watch to find out.

CHRISTA : I’m heading on a 10 hour flight next week. I was loading my iPad with shows to watch, and started with this article, 9 Shows Like Hacks to Watch Next. I might start with The Other Two (HBO Max)–a comedy about two siblings struggling to become famous, when their sibling and mom already are. Has anyone seen it?

What We’re Wearing

CHRISTA : Top from Amazon (under $30 and a top item on the blog for several weeks), and sandals from Target (only $20). Your #OOTD doesn’t need to cost a lot to be cute and comfortable for a day of errands or activities. The jeans are another Kut from the Kloth favorite, the Kelsey style. I love the raw hem, because at 5’4, it’s easy to cut the hem for a perfect length. Give it a try!

Shop Christa’s Look

MEGAN : Working my way into fall with button downs and jeans. Trying the wide-leg jean trend and figuring out what tops and shoes to wear with them. Spoiler alert: more about this next Wednesday!

What We’re Shopping For

MEGAN : I’ve been on the hunt for a short sleeve sweatshirt to wear with jeans, chinos or joggers. Here, in Virginia, it can still be REALLY WARM until Halloween, so adding this piece to my closet will bring lots of transitional options this fall and spring. My final round up, prices range from $20 – $165.

CHRISTA : I wasn’t looking for new walking shoes, but I couldn’t resist these Brooks Glycerin 21 from the “Summer Melts” collection—sprinkles and all! A fresh pair of sneakers always motivates me to walk more. I’m pairing them with my favorite CRZ Yoga leggings (under $30) and a new CRZ Yoga hoodie (under $50) for fall. And, the Zella belt bag from Nordstrom is 25% off (under $30)–plus it’s a great size to use for walks or everyday errands instead of your purse.

Something New from Nordstrom

It’s no secret that we love to shop at Nordstrom (and eat at their cafe!). We like it so much, we did a whole blog post about it! Since we shop there so much, we decided to start sharing new weekly Nordstrom finds with you. Hope you find something you love!

CHRISTA : Something new for your fall walk and talks…this packable jacket by Zella. Not too heavy, not too light. Pro tip: Size down.

MEGAN : Time to put away that straw bag, it’s fall ya’ll. This Mango shoulder bag is the silhouette that I’ve seen everywhere this fall. The leather hardware (no gold or silver) makes it more modern and versatile.

What We Found on Amazon

CHRISTA : This foot scrub is a long time favorite — my Amazon order history goes back to 2017 when I first ordered it. Since then, there have been 10 more repeat orders, usually stocking up with 3 or 4 at a time! Yes, it’s that good! The minty scent is heavenly in the shower and it’ll work wonders on your tough, rough feet. Even my husband is using it now!

MEGAN : If you live in the DC area you will love this book. The Briar Club by Kate Quinn is set in Washington DC during from 1950-54. The story starts off with a dead body in an all female boarding house. As the story unfolds we learn the back story of all the residents. No one brings female characters to life like Kate Quinn. Great read and kept me guessing to the end.

Random Stuff We Like

MEGAN : I was “served” these clogs in an add on IG. I cannot decide, do we love ’em or hate ’em? Look for a poll in stories this weekend, I’m sending this one to a crowd sourced vote. The pebbled leather and suede is lovely, but are they giving Geisha in the new millennium?

CHRISTA : This is not random! These jeans were my favorites last year–and a favorite for many of you, too. They sold out, BUT THEY’RE BACK in this great darker wash for fall. If you didn’t get these Kut from the Kloth Reese Ankle Slim Straight Leg Jeans, now is your chance. These are petite length, 25″ inseam, so for me at 5’4, they’re a perfect ankle length jean. Under $100, runs TTS. I’m also linking some other “Reese” style jeans below in petite, regular and plus sizes.

What You Loved This Week

These wide leg jeans are PERFECT with the Amazon striped cotton blouse. A little “shoulder” helps balance the wider pants. This week’s trending items are so cute together. Add in this woven crossbody and you are ready for any adventure.
