I don’t have a go to swimsuit brand that I gravitate towards, but I tend to chose maillot style suits in solid colors. To be honest I’d rather spend my $$ on a good cover up than a fancy swim suit. I always check TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack for my go to style. Knowing what works for my body type makes it much easier to focus when shopping for swimsuits. I do love my strapless J.Crew suit, they have it every year in a multitude of colors. Over the last 10 years I’ve had three of them and I always come back to it. It looks good on everyone, tall or small.

For me, it’s all about the cover up! Cover ups are my favorite part of my swimming costume (is this the 1800s?). Love an easy breezy throw on dress, but my very favorite cover up is actually free of charge. It’s one of my husband’s old button down work shirts. Nothing looks more chic (or sexy) than a men’s white button down over a black bathing suit with a pair of heeled sandals or wedges.

Again with the aging, but I just can’t wear flip flops like I used to. My feet kill me and my plantar fasciitis rears it’s ugly head if I spend too much time in flats. Friends, meet my new best friend, Archies. Found these last summer and I’ve already started wearing them around the house this spring. They have the perfect amount of arch support and cushion. Highly recommend. I’m adding the slide version to my shoe buffet for this summer.

For years, Summersalt has been my top choice for swimsuits, especially their universally flattering “Sidestroke” one-shoulder style. With diverse models and a wide range of colors, sizes, and styles, it’s a must-try. I need a suit that will accommodate/support bigger boobs, and the Summersalt “Sidestroke” style works for me. Even though it isn’t specifically cup-sized, it’s still supportive enough — their suits offer the best compression.

Pro tip: try a suit even if it doesn’t come in cup sizes, because you never know. I’ve been happily surprised sometimes.

This year, I am also seeing a lot of swimsuits to love from Boden, with some great patterns and colors, like the blue halter below. And my other go to is always Nordstrom for a wide selection of brands. I’ve tried suits from Amazon, but the fit just doesn’t ever work for me (and they typically don’t offer much support). I’ll keep trying and when I find one, you’ll be the first to know–I’ll be shouting it from the rooftops if I can find an under $100 swimsuit that works!

And let’s take a moment to discuss coverups! If your comfort zone is a basic swimsuit, you can add flair and fun with a stylish cover-up that matches your personality. Invest in a good coverup, and feel good while lounging by the pool, walking to lunch, and strolling along the beach.
