Walk and Talk (and Pajamas)

Today we are having a serious conversation, about pajamas! At “our age,” pajamas actually become pretty important for a good night’s sleep! Whether you’re experiencing night sweats, insomnia, and/or hot flashes (or cold flashes – yes, it’s a thing!) or just listening to someone snore, your jammies can make the difference between restful sleep or a night of tossing and turning. (Do a quick Google search on “menopause and pajamas” and you’ll find everyone from Good Housekeeping to the NY Times has a list!)

CHRISTA : After trying many brands, my favorites are from Amazon. They’re super soft and light enough so I don’t sweat, they wash well (I avoid the dryer so they don’t fade), and they come in lots of colors at an affordable “under $50” price. I love the two floral patterns and (of course) the black set, too! (And here they are in a shorts version for the summer.)

MEGAN : I’m a huge fan of LAKE pajamas . The cotton is so soft, like the cotton used in baby clothes. I’m a sucker for stripes and LAKE owns the striped pj game. My love for these jammies is so deep that I threw out all my old pajamas and just kept my LAKE sets (the number will remain a mystery). I also have and love their striped robe. Same cotton as the pjs, the belt is actually sewn across the back so you never lose it and it has pockets!

My friend gave me a set of Barefoot Dreams pajamas for Christmas (I already had the robe). And now every night I’m torn between the two. It’s a good kind of quandary. I would say both are true to size, the LAKE pjs are fine in the dryer but I hang the Barefoot Dreams to dry.

SLIPPER AND ROBES, TOO…

CHRISTA : In addition to my pajamas, I’ve linked my two favorite products in my nighttime skincare routine — the Colleen Rothschild cleansing balm and the IT Cosmetics nighttime moisturizer. Both are key ingredients to a good night’s sleep, too.

And equally important in my pajama selection are my slippers. My feet have suffered from pain and plantar fasciitis so I love a slipper with some support. I found this great pair (also from Amazon, of course) that keep my feet happy. (They’re so good that I’ve purchased them every year since 2021, and I keep a pair at my daughter’s condo and my son’s house! Trust me on this one.)

MEGAN : Are you a robe person? I use a robe after the shower while getting ready. Nothing makes you feel more grown up than having a robe that matches your PJs. Taking it to the next level, do you have a summer AND a winter robe? I know, I know but it’s so snuggly to have a warm robe in the winter and a lighter one in the summer. Having comfortable pajamas has become a real priority as I get older and I find myself longing to get in them earlier and earlier. Before you know it I’ll be singing along to the music in the grocery store. Ooh wait…

OUR STYLISH FRIEND KAREN has a pajama recommendation and loves PJ Salvage. “They are the softest and coziest pjs I’ve ever had. And I love that I can lounge in them at home or while visiting friends on overnight trips.

What We’re Watching

CHRISTA : Inside Man (Netflix) is a four episode limited series starring Stanley Tucci (you’ll love him in this!). The one hour episodes made for great treadmill workouts last week — I couldn’t wait to walk every day!

MEGAN : You People (Netflix) released while I was in Colorado. The movie is about a young (millennial) couple that falls in love but their relationship struggles to make it. Social, religious, and generational differences all pop up as speed bumps along the way. Julia Louis Dreyfus is amazing (in the cringiest way possible) as the mother of Ezra. Add it to your next watch party if you like to laugh.

BONUS — READER RECOMMENDATION : “Another binge-worthy tv show rec – Shrinking on Apple TV! I binged all 3 episodes and need more to come out asap!” — from our stylish friend Anna

How You Can Help

Our hearts are broken as we watch the news in horror. In Syria and Turkey, thousands remain stranded in the cold as the death toll rises over 17,000 from the recent earthquake. It’s unimaginable. We’re sharing this article from Katie Couric with a roundup of places you can donate. Although we feel helpless on the other side of the world, donating your Starbucks coffee money from the week will make a difference. If it’s in your budget, every donation helps.

What We’re Reading

MEGAN : Currently reading Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson. It’s good, definitely recommend it. I’m actually listening to Black Cake on Audibles and I’m really enjoying the “story teller” vibe it’s giving me. OK, bye, I have to go soak my fruit now.

Something New We Found

CHRISTA : If I close my eyes, it feels like I’m at my favorite beach resort. The scent is heavenly. Win your own Saltair body wash (along with lots of other goodies!) by entering the contest below.

Save vs. Splurge

MEGAN : I’m in the market for a quilted sweatshirt for spring. These are my top three contenders, the price range for these similar items (quality and material is different) is wild.

J.Crew Factory // Athleta // Target

CHRISTA : OK, so these bags aren’t exactly the same. The “save” bag is smaller (12″ x 10″) and doesn’t have the fancy metallic handle like the “splurge” bag. But, it does have a top closure, an interior zipped pocket and a similar summery look. If you’ve moved beyond a pool/beach bag that holds all of your family’s stuff, then this save bag is perfect for you. I bought it last summer and love it! It holds everything I need by the pool with room to spare. Plus, you’ll save over $175 — use that for extra cash for margaritas by the pool during your vacay, just sayin’!

And for under $10, you can dress up your tote with this cute tassel.

Something Just For Fun

CHRISTA : If you asked me who was playing in this weekend’s Super Bowl, I couldn’t tell you…but I could tell you about some of the fun commercials they have lined up, like this one with Kevin Bacon and his daughter Sosie. (Check out more of them having fun together on Kevin Bacon’s Tik Tok.)

MEGAN : I’m totally in it for the commercials (and the snacks!). This T-Mobile commercial has nostalgic. I bet my ZTA girls are singing along!
