Weekly Walk and Talk | 09.30.2022

Welcome to our weekly “walk and talk,” where we bring our weekly walks to you. Our walks are a time to catch up on family life, share online shopping hits and misses, exchange recipes, discuss our newest Netflix binge — all the stuff that friends share with each other. And now we’re sharing with you!

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

CHRISTA : Put The Patient (Hulu) at the top of your list! In this psychological thriller, Steve Carell is a psychologist trying to rehabilitate a serial killer — no easy task when you’re being held captive by him! Probably some of Steve Carell’s best work. Both lead actors work together to create something creepy that you can’t get enough of! Pro tip: Episodes are released weekly, so if you like to binge a whole show, maybe wait a few weeks to start this one.

MEGAN : Tell Me Lies (Hulu) has got my attention. It’s a coming of age romance about toxic love and relationships. You get a little of everything from romance to betrayal. But really it’s about the one that got away, the one that still haunts you and makes you wonder what if. Oh and Peg Bundy is Stephen DeMarco’s mom and that is everything!

RANDOM STUFF WE LIKE

CHRISTA : On a recent trip, I was asked about my Away suitcase. I love this suitcase and can’t believe I haven’t shared it here. I have the “bigger carry-on” size. Combined with my Away packing cubes, I can surprisingly pack a lot of stuff – this trip I fit 1-jeans, 3-leggings, 1-sweater, 2-sweatshirts, 3-tank tops, 2-blouses, 2-pajamas, and underwear/bras IN JUST ONE SIDE of the suitcase! Checking your luggage right now is a gamble — with the Away bag, you can pack it all in a carry-on and keep your bag with you. The Away suitcases clean easily with a Magic Eraser (especially important since I have the white one!). You’ve probably seen these bags throughout your travels — because they are that good.

I also love this Tumi backpack (similar). It’s an investment, but worth it. It’s perfect for travel and fits my iPad, chargers, purse, snacks and headphones. The Away and Tumi bags together make travel a breeze!

WHAT WE’RE SHOPPING FOR

CHRISTA : Too soon for Christmas ideas? I’m a big fan of IT Cosmetics and they always have some great deals on holidays gift sets – lipsticks, mascaras, cleansers, brushes. They just released a preview of this year’s collection. Lots of great stocking stuffers and gifts. Treat yourself to this fun advent calendar — currently on sale for $74.50 ($276 value)! Pro tip: This is a great way to try some new products.

A QUICK READ…

CHRISTA : Are you reheating leftovers in the microwave? We all do – it’s fast and easy. But what if there’s a better way? The Food Network has tips for reheating six popular leftovers that don’t use a microwave and definitely taste better!

MEGAN : Have you heard of the 75 Hard Program? Someone mentioned it online recently and then I went down the rabbit hole. There are five rules (see the link above) and you must follow them everyday for 75 days or you start over. The program focuses on nutrition (can I chose intuitive eating?), fitness, self-improvement and self-discipline. It sounds extreme to me, but I’m curious. Respond in the comments if you have tried it or would do it.

WHAT MEGAN’S COOKING

Not much to share in the cooking department as my kitchen renovation is finally underway! After several delays due to product disruption and supply chain interruption I’m happy to report that IT’S HAPPENING! Instead of recipes (although I might pop a few in here and there) I thought I’d share some kitchen progress with you all. So here you go – here is where we are today.

SOMETHING YOU NEED (TRUST US!)

MEGAN : Christa and I have been subscribing to the Allure Beauty Box for a few months now. We receive one box and split the goodies. I love getting a random box of beauty fun in the mail and I must say I’ve found a few treasures! Here is a pic of the August box, good stuff right? The box includes 3 full size items and the value is $100. In September I got a sample of this perfume and it’s so good, lots of compliments. I’m going to order the full size. The Allure Beauty Box is a great gift idea for your bestie, college student, mom, sister, MIL any of the beauty/product lovers in your life. You can order one month, three months or the whole year.

SAVE VS. SPLURGE

CHRISTA : I loved this dress by Reiss as soon as I it saw it in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this summer, but even on sale, it was a pretty big splurge! Amazon to the rescue (again!). This dress has the same vibe, for a fraction of the price. Pair it with some tall boots and your favorite black clutch and you’re ready for any occasion.

3 UNDER $30

CHRISTA : A random “3 under $30” all from Nordstrom. The blanket makes a great gift. The eye shadow sticks would be great stocking stuffers. And the sweater – well, that’s for you! (It’s only $12.99 – comes in three colors.)

AND, HERE’S WHERE WE WALKED

A peek along our walk…we were influenced today! Shaeffer Told Me To (someone we’ve both followed for many years) raved about these sweaters on her blog, and Megan scored one for each of us at Walmart. This mixed media hoodie is a steal at under $20, it’s nice and thick/warm and it washes well (no shrinkage). It’ll be perfect to throw on for morning walks/errands and still look put together.

Yes, ladies, we said Walmart! Have you checked them out for clothing lately? They are all over the blogs and social media and you can find some really cute, affordable options there right now. To help you sort through everything they have, start with the Time and Tru and Free Assembly brands for some quality pieces at great prices. Should we share more?
